following a strict Carnivore Diet?

This blood sample was drawn today from a patient who came in with severe abdominal pain, along with fatigue and numbness in their legs. Initially, the blood appeared normal, but after sitting, it turned milky—a sign of sky-high triglycerides. This patient had been following a strict Carnivore Diet, consuming excessive amounts of fatty meats and zero carbs. After IV fluids, they were rushed to the ER for pancreatitis risk.

Let me be clear for those romanticizing extreme diets: THIS IS A POTENTIAL SIDE EFFECT OF THE CARNIVORE DIET! If this feels directed at you, it probably is. While some praise the diet for short-term weight loss, long-term risks include:

- Hyperlipidemia (dangerously high cholesterol/triglycerides)

- Pancreatitis (life-threatening inflammation from fat metabolism overload)

- Nutrient deficiencies(lack of fiber, vitamins C & E, antioxidants)

- Gut microbiome disruption (from zero plant intake)

- Increased cardiovascular risk (from saturated fat overload)

No diet is worth risking your life. Extreme restriction—whether alcohol, processed foods, or *only* meat—can have severe consequences. Consult a doctor before diving into dietary extremes.
