EXERCISE 14 ; Rhythmic breathing

THE SACRED IMPULSE BETWEEN THE BREATHS

Stress concentrates the mind on the threat to our survival so that we are forced to focus on the body - how we are feeling, and how to alleviate the situation. During times of stress, then, we may lose sight of our link with our spiritual reality. But conscious breathing will quickly re-establish this link. When the communication link with the Source-Creator is made, it is reflected in the breth as an energetic rhythm: a pulsation that occurs between breaths.

  The following exercise 14 will restore your natural breathing rhythm and prepare your respiratory system to await the arrival of this sacred energetic impulse between breaths. This allows the use of rhythmic breathing to reinforce the beneficial side effects of efficient breathing (such as a decrease in heart rate, a stabilisation of blood pressure, total muscular relaxation and the resumption of normal functioning in all the body systems), and to affirm the presence of the higher self within you. You effectively restore the Breath of Unity

EXERCISE 14

Rhythmic breathing


For best results, record the exercise 14 and play it back, or have a partner read it to you. 

• Sit comfortably in a chair with your feet flat on the ground. Notice your breathing.  Allow it to become slow, deep and gentle. 

• Practise full-breath (as in EXERCISE 2) breathing for three (3) complete breaths. Check to see if you are relaxed, paying attention to the muscles of your pelvic and shoulder girdles and the back of your neck.

• Now inhale to a count of three.1, 2, 3. Hold for a count of one, 1. Exhale to a count of three. 1, 2, 3. Hold for a count of one, 1. Do this for three (3) breathing cycles. 

• See if you can inhale to a count of four. 1, 2, 3, 4. Hold for a count of two, 1, 2. Exhale to a count of four. 1, 2, 3, 4. Hold for a count of two, 1, 2. Breathe to this rhythm for six(6) breaths. Do not strain.

  As you grow relaxed and confident with the four/two rhythm, see if you can increase it to six/three without straining. 



Within the pause between breaths lies all potential, all possibility, everything you need at this time. Within the pause is the presence and awareness of your higher self, the "I am". Within this place of calmness, nervousness, fear, or anxiety do not exist. This exercise 14 may be practised whenever you feel the onset of stress. 

Psalm 46:10 "Be still and know that I Am GOD." 
 What does it mean to be still? It means to admit defeat and to come to the end of ourselves so that we can cease from the striving and struggling to be Godly in our own strength. Today, God is inviting us to let go of those things that seem to be Godly, but has its fuel source in human effort and to come to Him so He can be God to you. The deepest work of God is the quiet work that's goes on in the inward work of our heart.
