The D’Cruz family has a combined age of 1,042 years and 315 days, and their record was confirmed on December 15, according to a news release from Guinness.

That surpasses the previous record by 16 years.
It all started with the happy couple of Modesto Hernández and Martina Pérez who lived in Moya, Gran Canaria - the same town where their twelve children have spent their lives and where they live to this day.
Today the close-knit clan, composed of Modesto and Martina's seven sons and five daughters, spans between 76 and 98 years of age.

The record- breaking lineage starts with Jose Hernández- Pérez.
1. The oldest son of Modesto and Martina and the first of the siblings, Jose was born on 30 December 1924.
2. His birth was followed two years later by his brother Alejandro, born on 11 January 1926.
The two brothers then saw their family tree grow year after year as they welcomed their first sister.

During the event, the family was celebrated and accompanied by the mayor of Moya, Raúl Afonso.
The local priest, Roberto Rivero, and historian María del Pino Ojeda also witnessed the ratification, as was reported by the Spanish news outlet Canarian Weekly.
“The siblings stand as an example of traditional values,” writes the newspaper ABC Espana.
“The same values that they now transmit with the tranquillity and wisdom given by age, and the values that have accompanied them through the years.”

The family shares many happy memories.
Memories of work, of studying together, of dances and local festivities that shaped their childhood.
"We remember that time in the 60s, when we went to La Palma, the capital of the island," they recall. "We brought the cows with us, so we were selling fresh milk door to door."
“We shared every dinner, and the work on the field was carried out by all the siblings that weren’t in school. However, even them joined their siblings after class to help out with the work on the fields.”
“That sense of union carries on to this day, and there was never a fall out between us siblings. We all always help and support each other.”
“Among the difficulties of the 30s, 40s and 50s, there was no technology, no public transport and very few doctors,” the siblings recall about the challenges of their past. “We had to walk several miles for food and school, and always by foot.”
Although everything was done in the house, the siblings share fond memories of the rural society that tempered their spirits and shaped their bond.
"We used to sow, thresh and harvest our wheat, and carry it to the mill for the flour. We baked bread in our family's oven. We used the wool of our own sheep for blouses and jackets."
Everything was done by hand and always with the help of the neighborhood, in a society that was based on mutual aid and a strong sense of community.

However, they also recall that there were plenty of parties at the end of the workday, and everybody played an instrument.

With their achievement, the Hernández-Pérez siblings broke the record previously set by the D’Cruz family (born in Pakistan).
Together, the D'Cruz siblings measured a total combined age of 1,042 years and 315 days, as verified in December 2020.

La familia siempre habla sobre el registro en su chat grupal o comparte anécdotas sobre el registro.
El galardón tuvo un impacto positivo en sus vidas y consolidó aún más su vínculo.
Sin embargo, más allá del gran orgullo y alegría que la familia encontró al batir un récord mundial, también esperan que sea “un reconocimiento y homenaje para todas aquellas familias de nuestra ciudad (y, más en general, de la isla) que contó 8 o más hermanos.”
“Esas familias lucharon y sacrificaron mucho para mejorar nuestra sociedad y vida actual”, dijeron.

Durante el acto, la familia fue celebrada y acompañada por el alcalde de Moya, Raúl Afonso.
El cura local, Roberto Rivero, y la historiadora María del Pino Ojeda también fueron testigos de la ratificación, según informó el medio español Canarian Weekly.
“Los hermanos son un ejemplo de los valores tradicionales”, escribe el periódico ABC España.
“Los mismos valores que ahora transmiten con la tranquilidad y sabiduría que da la edad, y los valores que los han acompañado a lo largo de los años”.

La familia comparte muchos recuerdos felices.
Recuerdos de trabajo, de estudiar juntos, de bailes y fiestas locales que marcaron su infancia.
“Recordamos aquella época de los años 60, cuando íbamos a La Palma, la capital de la isla”, recuerdan. "Trajimos las vacas con nosotros, así que vendíamos leche fresca de puerta en puerta".
“Compartimos todas las cenas y el trabajo en el campo lo hacían todos los hermanos que no estaban en la escuela. Sin embargo, incluso ellos se unieron a sus hermanos después de clase para ayudar con el trabajo en los campos”.
“Ese sentido de unión continúa hasta el día de hoy, y nunca hubo una pelea entre los hermanos. Todos siempre nos ayudamos y apoyamos unos a otros”.
“Entre las dificultades de los años 30, 40 y 50, no había tecnología, ni transporte público y muy pocos médicos”, recuerdan los hermanos sobre los desafíos de su pasado. “Teníamos que caminar varios kilómetros para ir a la escuela y a la comida, y siempre a pie”.
Aunque todo se hacía en la casa, los hermanos comparten buenos recuerdos de la sociedad rural que atemperó sus espíritus y formó su vínculo.
"Solíamos sembrar, trillar y cosechar nuestro trigo, y llevarlo al molino para la harina. Cocíamos pan en el horno de nuestra familia. Usábamos la lana de nuestras propias ovejas para blusas y chaquetas".
Todo se hizo a mano y siempre con la ayuda del barrio, en una sociedad que se basaba en la ayuda mutua y un fuerte sentido de comunidad.
“Nuestra madre, Martina, dio a luz a sus 12 hijos en casa, sola o, en ocasiones, con la ayuda de una partera”.
Sin embargo, también recuerdan que había muchas fiestas al final de la jornada laboral y todos tocaban algún instrumento.

Con su hazaña, los hermanos Hernández-Pérez rompieron el récord establecido anteriormente por la familia D’Cruz (nacida en Pakistán).
Juntos, los hermanos D'Cruz midieron una edad total combinada de 1.042 años y 315 días, según se verificó en diciembre de 2020.
