Asking Jesus Christ for Wisdom and Strength

✅ Separation is not isolation—it’s holiness in action

✅ Your citizenship is in heaven, not here

✅ True discipleship is measured by obedience, not appearances

There is a truth that every believer must wrestle with.

We live in the world, but we are not of the world.

1 John 2:15 speaks directly to this.

Do not love the world or the things in the world.

If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

That is a call to examine our hearts and ask.

"Where is our affection truly placed?

Do we love God more than the fleeting pleasures of this world?

Or do we secretly find ourselves drawn to the very same things that unbelievers chase after?

This is where honesty with ourselves becomes crucial.

The world sets its own standards of success, beauty, pleasure, and worth.

But are we any different?

Or have we allowed those same standards to creep into our thinking?

The Apostle Paul gives us the answer in Romans 12.

" Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. "

Our lives, our desires, and even our thoughts should look different because the spirit of God lives within us.

Being born again means more than just carrying the name of Christ.

It means living with a new perspective and new priorities.

God has called us to come out from among the world as 2 Corinthians chapter 6 verse 17 says.

Therefore come out from among them and be separate says the Lord. Do not touch what is unclean and I will receive you.

This separation is not about isolating ourselves physically but about living with a holiness that cannot be mistaken.

It means our goals, our values and the way we conduct ourselves are guided by the word of God rather than the culture around us.

That is why it is so important for us to regularly evaluate our own lives.

Ask yourself, do my actions reflect Christ?

Do my words honor him?

Does my conduct bring glory to his name?

James 1: 22 warns us, "But be doers of the word and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves."

True disciplehip is not measured by how many sermons we hear or how many verses we can recite, but by how faithfully we obey God's word in our daily living.

Paul reminds us in Philippians 3 20.

For our citizenship is in heaven from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.

This verse changes everything.

If your true citizenship is not here but in heaven, then your mindset should not be consumed by earthly pursuits.

Instead, it should be lifted upward.

Colossians 3:2 says it plainly, "Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth."

That means your meditation should be on what is true, what is noble, what is pure and what is lovely.

It means living with eternity in view, not just the temporary gains of this earthly life.

Jesus himself made this truth clear in Matthew 16 26.

For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?

The world tells us that success means

climbing the ladder, acquiring wealth, and securing recognition.

But Christ reminds us that none of it matters if it costs you your soul.

The treasures of this world are fragile.

But the treasure of knowing Christ is eternal.

That is why Jesus also said in Matthew chapter 6 verses 19 and 20, "Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven."

And what does it mean to lay up treasures in heaven?

It means choosing obedience over convenience.

It means choosing sacrifice over selfishness.

It means taking up your cross daily.

Jesus said in Matthew 16 24,

"If anyone desires to come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me."

To deny yourself is to surrender your will, your desires and your life completely to him.

It is to say, "Lord, less of me and more of you. Not my will but yours be done."

This is the true mark of a disciple.

Following Jesus is not about blending into the world, but about shining as light in the darkness.

Matthew 5:14 declares, "You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.

If your light is dimmed because you are living like the world, then you are not walking in the fullness of your calling.

But when your life reflects Christ, even in small ways, you become a witness   of his power and his truth.

To live as one who is not of this world means to build your life upon a different foundation.

The world builds on pride, but you must build on humility.

The world builds on greed, but you must build on generosity.

The world builds on self-pleasure, but you must build on self-denial.

And the only way to live like this is to remain anchored in the Word of God and led by the Spirit of God.

So l encourage you today, evaluate your life honestly.

Ask the Holy Spirit to search you and reveal anything in you that looks more like the world than like Christ.

Repent where you need to repent and recommmit yourself to living as a true disciple.

Remember that you are not of this world.

Your life is hidden with Christ in God

Your hope is eternal.

Your treasure is eternal.

And your destiny is eternal.

May we all be found faithful before God.

And may our lives testify in word and in deed that we belong to Jesus Christ, the one who called us out of darkness into his marvelous light.

Now let's take a moment to pray together.

Gracious Lord Jesus, when you walked upon this earth, you revealed the Father's heart in ways that startled the world.

You touched lepers, spoke with outcasts, dined with sinners, and lifted the heads of those condemned by society.

You looked into the eyes of the broken and did not turn away.

You showed compassion to the rich ruler and to the blind beggar alike.

You embodied mercy and truth in perfect harmony.

And so today, Lord, I remember that picture of you walking among us, and my heart longs to be like yours.

Help me to love as you loved.

Help me to see beyond appearances, beyond accents, beyond status or background.

Teach me to love my neighbor with a holy love because you loved me first.

You yourself said in John 13:34,

"A new commandment I give to you that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another."

Lord, let that commandment be practiced in my life.

Strip away judgment and replace it with compassion.

Remind me that I too am a sinner saved by grace, lifted from the miry pit and washed

clean by your blood. King Jesus,

when you walked on this earth, you were always about your father's business. As John 6 verse 38 says, "For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will, but the will of him who sent me."

You laid aside your rights to fulfil the Father's purpose.

Give me that same heart that puts your lifted from the miry pit and washed clean by your blood.

King Jesus, when you walked on this earth, you were always about your father's business.

As John 6 verse 38 says, "For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will, but the will of him who sent me."

You laid aside your rights to fulfil the Father's purpose.

Give me that same heart that puts your will before my own, a heart that delights to obey your word even when it costs me.

Let my life speak the words of Psalm 40:8.

I delight to do your will, oh my God.

Your law is within my heart.

Father, I pray that obedience to you would not be a duty but a delight.

May my plans, my desires, and my daily choices be aligned with your purposes.

Form in me a heart that says, "Not my will, but yours be done."

Teach me to take joy in small acts of faithfulness that no one sees.

Teach me to measure my success not by earthly applause but by heavenly approval.

Your word exhorts us in Ephesians 5:verses 15-17.

Be very careful then how you live, not as unwise, but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore, do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord's will is.

Lord, help me to walk uprightly in this dark world.

Help me and help all of us as your children to live with honour before you to redeem the time you've given us and to understand your will firmly instead of drifting through life.

Raise us up to be a faithful people, not foolish, not careless, but discerning, courageous, and full of purpose.

Make us a people who obey you from the heart, not just in appearance.

May we shine as lights in a crooked generation, holding fast to the word of life.

Lord, renew my strength daily.

I know that your grace is sufficient for me and that your mercies are new every morning.

Teach me to draw on that grace.

Let my habits feed my soul, not starve it.

Let me sow into the spirit and not into the flesh.

For as your word says in Galatians 6 verse 8, "Whoever sows to please their flesh from the flesh will reap destruction. Whoever sows to please the Spirit from the Spirit will reap eternal life. "

Quicken my spirit, Lord.

Revive me where I have grown dull.

Ignite fresh hunger within me for prayer and for your word.

Jesus, you are the source of eternal life.

As John 6:68 (Peter)  says, "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. "

You alone satisfy the longing soul.

You alone sustain me when I am weak.

Thank you for hearing this prayer.

Thank you for being a loving and caring God.

Thank you for extending mercy to me over and over again.

Thank you for inviting me into fellowship with you.

And now, Lord, I pray over my daily walk with you.

Keep my heart soft to your voice.

Keep my eyes fixed on you.

Keep me from growing weary and keep me doing good.

Help me to remember that every moment counts, that every act of obedience matters, and that even when no one else notices, you do.

Father, may your Spirit shape my reactions, my thoughts, my words.

When I am tempted to judge, let me pray instead.

When I am tempted to quit, let me stand firm.

When I  am tempted to live for myself, let me remember the cross of Jesus.

Make me a vessel of your mercy to others.

Make me an example of what it means to walk wisely, courageously, and purposefully in a world that desperately needs the light of Christ.

King Jesus, I glorify you for being my savior, my teacher, and my king.

In the powerful and precious name of Jesus Christ, I pray.

Amen.  🙏

Notes

¹. John 6:68 features Simon Peter responding to Jesus, saying, "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life." This verse highlights Peter's recognition of Jesus as the source of spiritual truth and eternal life.
