Insulin Side Effects



What are the insulin side effects? Are they all related to injections and shots, pump therapy or there is something else I need to know? What about side effects of Lantus? What is happening during pregnancy? 

Most of the type-1 diabetics have reported side effects of insulin medication. Although insulin is a very important to treat type-1 diabetics, however it still remains a diabetes medication.

This does not mean that all people taking insulin would experience side effects. What I want you to know is what they are and what you can do once you notice them.

For better understanding purpose, the insulin side effects can be organized as:

I - Side effects of insulin injections (shots)

Minor, such as: rash and redness of the place where the insulin is injected, which is not associated with any systemic reaction of your body.

What you can do: In this case, change the position of insulin injection. One time in one arm, another insulin shot in the other; or use abdominal muscles.

If it persists and is accompanied by major side effects, then you should stop taking it, and consult immediately your physician for further assistance.

Major, such as persistent skin rash, feeling like fainting, fast palpitations, cold sweat, breathe difficulties.

What you can do: If these symptoms persist, you must consult your physician about your problems and get further medical assistance.

II - Pump Insulin side effects

When you're taking insulin by inhalation (pump), you may face upper-respiratory tract problems, such as persistent respiratory infections, coughing, breathing difficulties (shortness or painful breathing), or maybe allergic reaction signs.

What you can do: Stop taking insulin by inhalation immediately and contact your physician.

Sometimes, the insulin side effects can be classified on how often they occur. So, there can be:

Common side effects such as: swoon, seizures, cold sweats, your skin may become pale and cool, headache, you maybe anxious, have a strange behavior like being drunk.

Sometimes you may feel sleepy, cannot concentrate, be confused on what’s happening around you, feel very tired and weak, have a bad sleep (restless one), your eye vision may be blurred, your speech is spurred; or even low blood sugar level.

All the above insulin side effects may arouse due to immediate body reaction to insulin components. Another cause might be the rapid drop of blood sugar level after insulin administration.

What you can do: If you thing that the above manifestations are due to hypoglycemia (caused by too much insulin intake), go and eat a spoonful (or more) of table sugar or honey, or drink a sugary juice.

They will raise your sugar blood level very quick. After taking the first aid at home, consult immediately your physician.

Otherwise, if you think that the amount of insulin intake is very little, it cannot lower your blood sugar level. Instead, it will be responsible for the onset of hyperglycemia, and further diabetes complications.

What you can do: Consult immediately your physician to change your insulin dosage to get the appropriate effect.

Rare insulin side effects such as: your skin at the place of insulin injection may become very thick and in the meantime suppressed.

What you can do: For this you must change the place you’re taking injections, and further consult your physician.

Maybe sometimes it might happen to see your face, fingers, ankles and even your feet swollen.

What you can do: If you’re taking other medications along with insulin, you must tell your physician what you’re taking. This is to ensure and avoid insulin interactions with other medications, which require special clinical attention.

Below you may find some insulin interactions reported as insulin side effects as well.

If you drink alcohol, take ACE, NSAIDs, MAO, ketokenazole, lithium, disopyramide, aspirin (in large doses), tetracycline, all these can improve the insulin effects. The result is the hypoglycemia onset.

On the other side, some drugs like beta blockers can elongate the effects of insulin. At the same time they may veil the hypoglycemia onset signs.

You must know that cortison-like drugs, furosemide and thiazide diuretics, thyroid hormones, phenytoin, oral contraceptives, or if you’re smoking (nicotine), they all can raise the insulin demands. And your physician may ask to shift to higher doses of insulin than your usual intake.


Remember: all the above is only a precaution in order to educate yourself on the possible risks of insulin side effects.

You must collaborate very closely with your physician for further medical assistance you may need.

You can help yourself decreasing the insulin side effects lowering its dosage with natural cures for diabetes. 

I know that you may have type1 diabetes, but you still can reduce your insulin side effects by merely educating yourself on other possible natural alternatives to reduce its dosage.

What about side effects of insulin Lantus type?

As you may probably know, Lantus is long-acting type of insulin, especially designed for type 2 diabetes that is injected only once daily.

The side effects of Lantus are the same as for the other types of insulin, just follow the above recommendations.

What about insulin side effects during pregnancy?

Insulin is considered safe to use during pregnancy. This means no harm effects on your baby. In general, common types of insulin are included in the category B of medicines (no addequate study has been carried out in pregnant humans, while no harm has been shown in animal fetus).

Keep also note that new types of insulin are included in the category C of medicines (no study has been carried out in pregnant humans; while no harm has been shown in animal fetus).

Glucophage Side Effects - Discussion on the popularity of Metformin.

Glucophage (Metformin) is one of the most popular drugs on the market, which is used to treat diabetes, especially type 2 diabetes and overweight.

It affects the liver and reduces the quantity of the glucose produced by it. That way the total amount of glucose is lowered. This helps the patient lose weight and to better control their diabetes.

Disclose the truth - common Glucophage side effects

Although very useful, Glucophage use carries certain side effects, which have been studied for some time now. For your information, there are two main types of glucophage:

- glucophage with normal acting period - and glucophage with extended acting period (otherwise called Glucophage xr).

Clinical trials have shown that the second type of glucophage is much more well-tolerated by the patients. In addition, only few of the glucophage side effects were observed in those patients, who were undergoing a treatment with the second type of glucophage.

3. Gases (or bloating) - the feeling of bloating is reported by 12% of the patients. Certain drugs (such as over the counter ones) or changing your eating habits (eat slowly; avoid high carb and high fat foods; chew your food carefully) might help.

4. Stomach pain/discomfort - 6.4% of the patients experience some kind of abdominal discomfort during the treatment.

General

5. General weakness - only 9% of the patients experiences it.

6. Headache - yet not specific complication, it appears in 5.4% of the patients.

Serious Glucophage side effects

Certain side effects are potentially dangerous for your health. That’s why you should be aware of them:

1. Lactic acidosis - the body’s pH is disrupted by chemical compounds circulating in it. If you notice one of the following signs in your diabetic relative (who is under Glucophage therapy), call for medical help immidiately:

a. Muscle pain

b. Stomach pain

c. Dizziness

d. Weakness

e. Feeling cold

2. Hyperglycemia - When the dose used is not appropriate or your body is not responding well to this treatment.

3. Hypoglycemia - low blood sugar (until the extreme) is more common than hyperglycemia. Diabetics sometimes feel free to adjust the dose of glucophage by themselves without consulting a physician.

With the changes in their lifestyle and diet, and the use of this drug, they will face amelioration in blood sugar (will be reduced); sometimes at extreme or lower levels. In cases like these, please take a juice fruit, a candy or a teaspoon of sugar, and seek medical help.

Byetta Side Effects on Kidney, Pancreatitis



Byetta Side effects - General Info

Byetta is one of the drugs on the market, used to treat diabetes type 2. However, as for any other drug, there is a possibility to develop side effects of byetta in diabetics using it.

It is important to point out all these side effects in order to take precautions in time. Byetta has been on the market for some time now and its side effects are known very well (as reported by diabetic patients or their health-care providers).

The mechanisms by which Byetta influence our body's metabolism (including blood sugar levels) is as the following:

1. Increase the production of insulin

2. Decrease the production of glucose by the liver



Common side effects when using Byetta

Some of the side effects of the drug should not be seen as potential danger to patient’s life. They include:

• Nausea - 44% of patients have reported this side effect.

• Hypoglycemia (reduced level of blood glucose in the patient)- When extreme low levels of blood glucose are reached, then this impose potential dangers for the patient’s life.

This is among very common conditions, when Byetta is used together with other drugs (especially those lowering blood glucose). The most common signs of hypoglycemia are:

o Sweating

o Tachycardia

• Vomiting - occurs in 13% of the diabetic patients.

• Diarrhea - up to 13% of diabetics have reported this side effect. Diarrhea should not be underestimated because it is potentially lethal, because patients may lose large amounts of water and heart could stop due to the reduced levels of potassium.

This could easily lead to dehydration with potential risk especially in older patient. However, most of the doctors forget this point.

• Dizziness - up to 9% patients have reported this side effect.

Less common Byetta side effects, but more dangerous

There are some side effects, which affect patient’s life even greatly. They include:

• Hyperglycemia - The specific indicators for hyperglycemia are:

o Increased urination

o Increased thirst

o Blurred vision

o Nausea and vomiting

o Fatigue

o Patients feel that they can not catch their breath

• Severe Hypoglycemia - with the above mentioned symptoms

• Kidney problems:

o Change in the urine output and color

o Swelling in the arms, hands, legs, face

• Pancreatitis

o Vomiting - which does not ease the pain. This is very specific for this problem; therefore if you undergo a therapy with byetta and notice this sign, immediately call your doctor.

o Pain in the abdomen

What to expect

There are numerous Byetta side effects; however, they could be treated if caught in time. Therefore, if you notice something unusual of strange happening with your body, contact your doctor immediately. Do not waste more time!

Actos Side Effects, Edema & Interactions

Actos Side Effects - What’s Actos and how does it work?

Actos is a drug used as a treatment for diabetes types 2. This drug is not supposed to be used in patients with type 1 diabetes. Actos enhances the insulin sensitivity in the patients and therefore, helping in the improvement of their condition.

What the common Actos side effects one diabetic should be aware of?

As a drug, Actos action is associated with side effects. However, most of the patients tend to tolerate this medication very well and they do not experience any side effects at all.

Several clinical trials have been estimated the exact percentage of people, which could experience one or more of the side effects. These percentages are extremely helpful for the patients, because they would be able to decide whether they want to start this drug therapy or not.

The most common Actos side effects are:

Some of the side effects are rather dangerous for you. That’s why, if you experience any of these side effects, you need to pay a visit to your doctor as soon as possible. These complications are to be reported immediately. They include:

1. Extreme high blood sugar is a complex sum of symptoms:

a. Increased thirst

b. Blurred vision

f. Yellow skin, eye or you could feel your skin itchy

Alfa glucosidase inhibitors side effects



The most fastidious alfa glucosidase inhibitors side effects, which are part of new diabetes medications , is the abdominal disorders due to the excessive production of gas.


Why? What happens?

They inhibit the enzyme alpha glucosidase, which helps to absorb glucose into blood stream in the level of intestine cells. Thus, it is possible to slower or inhibit glucose absorption, and reduced blood sugar levels after meals combined with other low sugar blood levels.

Actually, there is a huge difference of using these drugs as oral treatment of diabetes type 2 in different countries.

In USA and most countries these drugs are rarely used to treat diabetes type 2 because of their low effective influation and usually side effects. Contrarily, in Germain they are widely prescribed, and no reason for that is found.

To avoid contradictories in using of alfa glucosidase inhibitors, you can choose another natural alternative to alfa glucosidase inhibitors side effects.

What Are Avandia Side Effects?



Avandia side effects are attracting the attention of diabetics and their caregivers recently. It is true that this drug makes the person’s organism more responsive to the insulin. Therefore, the patient’s status is bettered really fast and he/she will have a normal life. - 



There are two different groups for the side effects of the Avandia medication depending on the alert status: 1- for patients and 2- for doctors.

6. Overdose of the drug, where the sugar blood level will be lower: anxiety, sweating, tachycardia (increased heart rate).

If you see any of those things, you must not doubt to contact your doctor right away. He/she might need to regulate your dosage or replace this drug with some other drug.

The avandia side effects for doctors must be reviewed only by them because they are more severe than the common side effects. In most cases they will explain you these side effects. These side effects are:

1.Upper respiratory tract infection - Many studies were carried on to found the exact percentage of the people who get this complication. It is estimated that about 9.9 of the people that are on Avandia mono-therapy received this complication.

The reason for this complication is because people’s immune system is further suppressed by the hypoglycemia because of the drug.

2. Headache/Neck pain - common symptoms that may indicate that the therapy has to be reviewed for regulation.

3. Hyperglycemia/Hypoglycemia - in the first condition the level of sugar is elevated and in the second the level of sugar is low. This could result as a low dosage of the drug and you will get hyperglycemia. Hypoglycemia will occur in people that take more than they should take.

Louise: Is there anything else that users can do to ensure that they get the best possible benefits from their magnets?

Dee: One of the quickest and simplest ways to get the best benefits from magnetic therapy is to treat the body from the outside in and inside out at the same time. I know that this nay sound complicated but it's actually very simple to do.

You treat the body from outside in by wearing magnetic products directly over the area of pain as we discussed earlier. You then, in-conjunction with wearing magnets on the body, drink magnetic water which treats the body from the inside out.

Louise: I'm sorry to interrupt Dee, but can you please explain just what magnetic water is and what it does?

Dee: Yes, I was coming to that, most people find it a bit strange when I start talking about magnetic water so I will try to explain what it is without being too technical. 

All water in its natural state (from rivers, streams, springs that has not been treated by chemicals) is naturally magnetized. This is because the Earth itself is a gigantic magnet (gravity is a magnetic field) with a north and a south pole. All water before it is treated holds a magnetically charged by the earths magnetic field.

Magnetic water has several very beneficial properties: it aids absorption of nutrients from our food, it aids digestion, it de-toxifies the blood, it regulates hormone levels particularly insulin, serotonin, melatonin and endorphin, it lowers high blood pressure and it increases the strength of the magnetic field at the point of pain, plus it also speeds up the healing process by increasing the absorption rate of the magnetic field by up to an amazing 6-10 times. 

The water that comes out of the tap has been chemically treated and transported in lead pipes; this destroys the naturally occurring magnetization (also called ionization) in the water.

The magnetic field that flows from magnetic therapy devices is the same as the current that occurs naturally in our body.

As an example, an MRI (magnetic resonance imager) scanner used in hospitals for diagnosis purposes emits a magnetic field of around 450,000 gauss, (a medical magnet is usually a maximum of 3,000 gauss). People enter the scanner and have 450,000 gauss of magnetism forced through their body with absolutely no harmful effects.

The Effects of Magnetic Water

About 4 months ago I started drinking what I call magnetic water as a means of energizing my body. After a month or so an unusual effect started to show up.

It first showed up on a friend of mine called Bob S. I introduced him to the methods of making magnetic water. He took it up and in his experimentation he went a little further than I did. He was processing his water for about 5 days and drinking 3 cups a day, while I was only processing it for 2 to 3 days. He reported to me that his hair was turning dark, especially in the back of his head near the neck line. As time went on, this effect spread upward and more toward the front. Now after about 4 months his hair is about 95% dark in the back and about 80%, and in the sides and front and his beard about 50% dark.


At that time, which was about 3 months ago, I started watching my own hair. Before I started drinking what I call "magnetic water" my head hair was about 90% gray, and the hair on my beard and mustache was 100% gray. I did not know about the effect of this energized water hair so I was not watching it for the first few months. So when I first noticed it the hair on the back of my head had already turned about 30% dark; now after about 4 to 5 months my hair on the sides, back and top is about 60% turned. My mustache is about 50% turned dark while the beard is still pure white-gray.

As a result of these effects I decided to upgrade my processing facility and make it possible for me to have 5 day water. Five day water is defined as water that remains in the magnetic activation apparatus for a minimum of 5 days. Previous to that I was only using 2 to 3 day water. Now we drink a minimum of 3 cups of this water a day and probably 5 to 6 cups.


What is very unusual about these changes is that the whole hair changes at once from gray to black. It does not start at the roots and grow out but the whole length of the hair turns at once. You may have heard of stories about a person who experienced a terrible shock in their life and their hair turned white over night, well I believe that this magnetic water has the reverse effect, but at a much smaller amount and it takes months to see the effect but the positive effect is there and is real.

The apparatus for making this water is very simple. It consists of an empty new one gallon, in paint can, in which is placed an empty one liter soda bottle that has the top cut off at the level where it starts to get narrower. In the space between the inner wall of the paint can and the empty one liter container, magnetite is poured. This makes a cylinder of powdered magnetite about one and one half inches thick surrounding the one liter size hole in the center. What I think is happening is that the magnetite which is a strong magnetic suscepter is concentrating the earth's magnetic fields into it's cylindrical shape and the shape effect, in turn, sets up a magnetic spiral vortex in the core of the cylinder in which the water is stored. This in turn activates the water with the magnetic energy.

I think this is the activating force for change in our bodies toward regeneration, as we drink it, and the hair color restoration is the first sign of this happening. How Coca-Cola affects your body when you drink it ...

Sugary drinks are considered a major contributor to health conditions such as obesity, type 2 diabetes and tooth decay. But have you ever wondered exactly what these beverages do to your body after consumption? One researcher has created an infographic that explains what happens to the body within an hour of drinking a can of Coca-Cola.


According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), around half of the US population drink sugary beverages on any given day, with consumption of these drinks highest among teenagers and young adults.
There are approximately 10 teaspoons of added sugar in a single can of cola. The World Health Organization (WHO) recommend consuming no more than 6 teaspoons of added sugar daily, meaning drinking just one serving of cola a day could take us well above these guidelines.
As such, it is no surprise that sugary drink consumption is associated with an array of health conditions. According to the Harvard School of Public Health, people who drink 1-2 cans of sugary beverages daily are 26% more likely to develop type 2 diabetes, and last month, Medical News Today reported on a study claiming 184,000 global deaths each year are down to sugary drink consumption.
Now, an infographic created by British pharmacist Niraj Naik - based on research by health writer Wade Meredith - shows the damage a 330 ml can of Coca-Cola can do to the body within 1 hour of consumption.

According to Naik, the intense sweetness of Coca-Cola as a result of its high sugar content should make us vomit as soon as it enters the body. However, the phosphoric acid in the beverage dulls the sweetness, enabling us to keep the drink down.
Blood sugar levels increase dramatically within 20 minutes of drinking the Cola, explains Naik, causing a burst of insulin. The liver then turns the high amounts of sugar circulating our body into fat.
Within 40 minutes, the body has absorbed all of the caffeine from the Cola, causing a dilation of pupils and an increase in blood pressure. By this point, the adenosine receptors in the brain have been blocked, preventing fatigue.
Five minutes later, production of dopamine has increased - a neurotransmitter that helps control the pleasure and reward centers of the brain. According to the infographic, the way Coca-Cola stimulates these centers is comparable to the effects of heroin, making us want another can.

According to Naik, the infographic is not only applicable to Coca-Cola, but to all caffeinated fizzy drinks.
"Coke is not just high in high fructose corn syrup, but it is also packed with refined salts and caffeine," writes Naik on his blogThe Renegade Pharmacist. "Regular consumption of these ingredients in the high quantities you find in Coke and other processed foods and drinks, can lead to higher blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes and obesity."


It will take around 5-6 hours for the body to achieve a 50% reduction in the amount of caffeine in the bloodstream - known as the "half-life" - and it is likely to take double this amount of time for women on birth control pills. It takes an average of 12 hours for the body to completely remove the caffeine from the bloodstream, though this does depend on individual factors.
"Pregnancy, liver damage and other drugs can also slow the rate at which caffeine is eliminated from the body," Dr. Farrimond told The Daily Mail. "Importantly, children and teenagers have a significantly longer half-life, meaning caffeine will remain in their bloodstream for longer and at higher levels than for adults. This is why caffeinated drinks can cause behavioral problems and anxiety issues in children."

Caffeine withdrawal may occur 12-24 hours after consumption

The infographic claims that individuals who consume energy drinks regularly may experience caffeine withdrawal in the 12-24 hours after consumption, which includes symptoms such as headache, irritability and constipation.
Dr. Farrimond explained that withdrawal symptoms can last up to 9 days and the severity depends on the amount of caffeine consumed.
For regular energy drink consumers, it takes around 7-12 days for the body to adapt to a regular intake of caffeine, according to the infographic. An individual is unlikely to experience a boost from the beverages once their body gets used to them.
While the information provided in this infographic is not new, it does help shed light on why so many studies have cited the health implications of energy drinks.
Still, energy drink consumption is rising, In the US, sales of the beverages increased by 60% between 2008 and 2012.

Energy drinks are particularly popular with children and adolescents. Last year, Medical News Today reported on a study from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), which found that 73% of children consume caffeine on a daily basis - much of which is coming from energy drinks and coffee.

As far as I understand, during the immediately pre-diabetic phase of function, or its post-diabetic phase of insulin shutdown, pancreatic cancers are also associated with DEHYDRATION.

I am of the opinion that type I diabetes - the kind you must inject insulin to control, even though it is classified as an autoimmune disease -- is another of the many complications of dehydration. Autoimmune diseases are also dehydration produced. It seems dehydration-produced cancers are more frequent in tissues that have secretory functions, like the intestinal tract, the breast, or the pancreas. 

Other pains are also related to DEHYDRATION :

@ Arthritis pain of the hand, arm, and leg joints.

@ Back and neck pain.

@Migraine headaches. these should be taken as a serious indicator of " brain thirst " that herald eventual disruption of brain function, including brain tumors or degenerative diseases such as MS (Multi-Scelerosis) , Parkison's disease, and even Alzheimer's disease.

@Angina.

@Fibromyalgia, denoting acid buildup in the muscle and the connective tissue - the locomotive faculties of the body.

Adequate rehydration , i.e: systematic regulated water drinking in relative amount to one's personal body weight, on daily basis,  should be the first step toward pain relief.

 It has become an established trend to silence the pains of the body with some sort of chemical without knowing the wider physiological  implications of the pain mechanism and its significant association with the level of acidity in the body. INSULIN-INDEPENDENT DIABETES

INSULIN-INDEPENDENT DIABETES
Basically, there are two types of diabetes. For the treatment of one, insulin is needed because the pancreas no longer manufactures insulin. This type is called insulin-dependent diabetes. For the treatment of the other, some chemicals are needed that can gradually release insulin from the pancreas so the diabetic can control the clinical symptoms. This type is called insulin-independent diabetes; the pancreas still has the ability to manufacture insulin. Insulin-independent diabetes, established in the elderly and which can be regulated by the intake of "tablet" forms of medication, is most probably the end result of brain water-deficiency, to the point that its neurotransmitter systems—
particularly the serotonergic system—is being affected. The physiology of the brain is designed in such a way that it
automatically begins to peg-up the glucose threshold so that it can maintain its own volume and its own energy requirements. The brain needs glucose for its energy value and its metabolic conversion to water. The prevalent consensus of opinion is that the bulk of energy requirement in the brain is provided by sugar alone. My personal view is that this is only the case if there is water and salt shortage in the body. Water and salt are absolutely essential for the generation of hydroelectric energy, particularly for neurotransmission mechanisms.


The reason and the mechanism for altering blood sugar levels is quite simple. When histamine becomes active in water regulation and energy management, it also activates a group of substances known as prostaglandins (PCs). PCs are involved in a subordinate system for rationed distribution of water to the cells in the body.


The pancreas—a very complex gland located between the stomach and the duodenum—other than being the seat of insulin manufacture is engaged in the production of copious quantities of a bicarbonate-containing watery solution. This bicarbonate solution is emptied into the duodenum to neutralize acid coming from the stomach. This is how the acid from the stomach is neutralized. It happens that while the stimulating agent, PG of the E type, may
be involved in shunting circulation to the pancreas so that the watery bicarbonate solution can be made, at the same time it naturally inhibits the secretion of insulin from the pancreas. It acts like a very tightly operated servomechanism.
The more one system has to be served, the more the other system will be decommissioned.


Why? Simply,insulin promotes movement of potassium and sugar into the cells of the body. It also promotes entry of some amino acids into cells. Accompanying the passage of sugar, potassium, and amino acids, water will also pass into the cell that has been stimulated by insulin. Such action will automatically reduce the available water that is more easily accessible from outside the cells. In a dehydrated state, the action of insulin would be counterproductive. The logic employed in the design of the body has therefore installed the two actions of water distribution to the pancreas and the needed inhibition of insulin action in the same agent—prostaglandin E. In this way, and at the expense of severe deprivation of some cells, water is made available for the act of food digestion and acid neutralization in the intestines.


As it happens, when insulin secretion is inhibited, except for the brain, the metabolism of the body is severely disrupted. In a dehydrated state, the brain benefits from insulin inhibition. The brain cell itself is not dependent on insulin for its functions While cells in most other parts of the body are totally dependent on the properties of insulin for their normal function. If we think about it, there is a natural logic to the ultimate production of insulin-independent diabetes in severe chronic dehydration. Why is it called insulin-independent diabetes? Because the body can still
manufacture insulin, although it takes the influence of some chemical agents to promote its secretion.
This phenomenon of insulin inhibition with dehydration shows that the primary function of the pancreatic gland is directed at the provision of water for food digestion. Insulin inhibition is an adaptation process of the gland to the dehydration of the body.


TRYPTOPHAN AND
DIABETES
Even the simplest explanation on tryptophan may seem too complicated. However, some very basic understanding
about this amino acid must be provided to make sense of some of the statements that are presented in this book
Remember, the body is a very complex chemical plant that is extremely sensitive to fluctuations in the flow of its
primary raw materials.
The brain is designed to resuscitate itself, when there is water and salt shortage in the body. It raises the levels of
sugar in circulation. The raised level of sugar is supposed to balance the vital osmotic equilibrium, in the same way
that a doctor resuscitates a patient by the use of sugar and salt-containing intravenous fluid drips. One also needs
to recognize another simple point: Osmotic forces that must be available for extracellular fluid volume regulation are
developed primarily by its salt content, by its raised sugar content, and sometimes by its increased uric acid content.
But in insulin-dependent type of diabetes, there may be severe salt shortage, in which case the brain has no
alternative but to raise the level of sugar even more to compensate for the low salt reserves in the body. This
process is an automatic step in the design of the brain activity that is master-managed by the various direct, and
indirect, functions of tryptophan. It has also been shown that tryptophan is the basic substance that the body needs
as a vital ingredient to convert into the three or even four most essential neurotransmitters so far recognized.
In insulin-independent diabetes, one needs to pay particular attention to adequate protein intake to make up for the
possible tryptophan insufficiency that may be the root cause of the disease. Why? It seems that dehydration causes
a severe depletion of brain tryptophan, a most essential amino acid in the human body. When there is adequate
amount of tryptophan in the brain, among its other effects, the pain threshold is raised—one endures pain better.
»Tryptophan content in the brain shows a great drop in its levels in some diabetic animals.
To stress this point again, salt, sugar, and uric acid are involved in balancing the osmotic forces of fluid composition held outside the cells. Salt content is responsible for the greatest contribution to the extracellular osmotic balance. Regulatory properties of tryptophan itself, or its dependent neurotransmission systems, operate a measuring mechanism for the amount of salt that is kept in the body. Serotonin, tryptamine, melatonin, and indolamine are derived from tryptophan, and all are neurotransmitters. Thus, tryptophan is the natural brain regulator for salt absorption in the body. It seems that lower levels of tryptophan—and in consequence, its neurotransmitter products—will establish lower-than-normal salt reserves.


As a back-up mechanism in the body, the RA system seems to compensate by inducing salt retention in the body.Histamine and its RA system activity become increasingly engaged if the tryptophan-dependent neurotransmitter systems become less involved—through shortage or increased breakdown of tryptophan. It

follows that a low-salt diet is not conducive to the correction of a diabetic's high blood sugar.

If the blood sugar is to come down, a slight upward adjustment of daily salt intake may become unavoidable. Tryptophan is also a most prominent amino acid employed in the correction of errors in the process of DNA "printout" or replica production. With another amino acid, lysine, they form a bridging system (lysine-tryptophanlysine tripod) that cuts and splices the inaccuracies in DNA transcription. This property of tryptophan is most essential to prevention of cancer cell development in the body.


With the brain's tryptophan replenishment, the histamine-operated systems will be trimmed down to their primary responsibilities—unexaggerated functions. Salt content of the body will be better regulated. The sensation level before registering pain stimulus will be raised. Acid secretion in the stomach will come under normal control. Blood pressure will be normalized to its natural levels for the operation of all functions in the body: kidneys, brain, liver, lungs, gastrointestinal digestive activities, "shower-head" filtration of water into the nerve cells, the joints, and so on will function within their normal range of activity.


There is a direct relationship between walking and the build-up of the brain tryptophan reserves. There are several amino acids that compete for crossing the naturally designed barrier system into the brain. They all have to "piggyback" on the same transporter proteins. These competitors to tryptophan are grouped under the title of branched-chain amino acids (BC amino acids). During exercise, these BC amino acids, along with the fats, are used
as fuel in the larger muscles. Muscles begin to pick up these amino acids from the circulating blood. As a result, the odds are changed in favor of tryptophan for its passage across the blood-brain-barrier and into the brain. One major physiological value to exercising is the direct relationship of muscle activity to the build-up of the brain tryptophan
reserves.


• The brain tryptophan content, and its various by-product neurotransmitter systems, are responsible for maintenance of the "homeostatic balance of the body." Normal levels of tryptophan in the brain maintain a wellregulated balance in all functions of the body—what is meant by homeostasis. With a decrease in tryptophan supply to the brain, there is a proportionate decrease in the efficiency of all functions in the body.


Depression and some mental disorders are the consequence of brain tryptophan imbalance. Prozac used in some mental disorders, particularly in depression, is a drug that stops the enzymes that break down serotonin, a byproduct of tryptophan. When more serotonin is present, all nerves function normally. However, Prozac cannot replace the indispensable role of tryptophan itself. One has to work at replenishing body reserves of tryptophan through a balanced diet and regular water intake.


My research has shown there is a direct relationship between water intake—hemodilution—and efficiency of function in the transport system for the passage of tryptophan into the brain. Water shortage and proportionate histamine release bring about an increase in the rate of tryptophan breakdown in the liver. It seems that adequate water intake arrests the increased and inefficient metabolism of tryptophan in the body. Chronic dehydration causes its loss from the pool of different amino acids held in the body. Tryptophan cannot be manufactured in the body; it must be imported through food intake. It is one of the essential amino acids. Thus, hydration of the body, exercise and the intake of right foods help replenish brain tryptophan reserves.


Another most important fact to remember is the idiosyncrasies that seem to operate in protein metabolism and their manufacture. Proteins are manufactured from joining amino acids together. There are 20 amino acids (AAs) from which different proteins are made. Each protein has a different mix of these AAs. Depending on the sequence of the mix, different characteristics are installed in each protein. Depending on the sequence and the number, the mix can function as enzymes, as assembly lines for the manufacture of other proteins, and as energy generators in the hydroelectric pump units.


All functions of the body are regulated by the special properties and the "sequence characteristics" of its AAs used in enzymes and body proteins. There are eight essential AAs that are not manufactured in the human body; they must be imported from food intake. There are three AAs that can be manufactured but in limited quantities. At certain times, they also become partially scarce. The other nine AAs are amply manufactured within the body. If the normal percentages held in the reserve pool of AAs in the body begins to fluctuate beyond a certain range, some AAs are dumped (differently broken or consumed) to keep the composition of the AA pool within the normal range for future protein and enzyme manufacture. Of the AAs that get dumped in stress, tryptophan seems to be one of the most important.


However, one can not consume this or that amino acid by itself to balance the pool, even if one knew all the intricate ramifications. One must consume the full range of AAs to build the "reserve pool" in due time. The precaution one can take is to eat proteins that have these AAs in ample proportions. Some proteins, such as long-exposed meat, may become deficient in some amino acids. The best proteins are those stored in the germinating seeds of plants, such as lentils, grains, beans, etc.—also in eggs and milk that nature provides to produce the next generation of
chickens and to feed the calf.


Lentils and green beans in particular are good stores for AAs in food ingredients. They contain about 28 percent proteins, 72 percent complex carbohydrates, and no oil. These types of foods are by nature better stores for provision of AAs in proportioned amounts. After all, these better choice of "foods" are naturally designed to procreate a "perfect" replica of the species concerned. The storage of a balanced amino acid composition as a life starter is part of the process.


Insulin-independent diabetes should be treated with an increase in water intake, exercise, and diet manipulation to provide the necessary amino acid balance for tissue repair, including brain tissue requirements. Salt regulation should also be kept in mind. Diabetes is a good example of the next-generation damage that is caused by dehydration. Whereas the onset of dehydration-induced diabetes is normally seen in the elderly and it is often reversible, the more serious and structurally damaging variety of the disease is often inherited by the offspring.
Juvenile diabetes will need the same approach to its early preventive treatment before permanent structural damage can take place. It should be remembered that the genetic transcription mechanism of the parents—in particular the mother—if affected by amino acid pool imbalance, will be equally represented in the offspring. In effect, this is how genetic damage and inherited disorders establish. What you will read in the next few paragraphs is designed to show a representative process.
