Romans 8:4 tells us that the righteous
requirement of the law might be fully
met in us who do not live according to
the flesh, but according to the spirit.
What we could not do in our strength,
the Spirit enables us to do in God's
strength.
So when the Bible says the Lord rewards
everyone for their righteousness and
faithfulness,
it is not calling us to perfection but
to perseverance,
to remain faithful,
to walk
in Christ day by day, even when
it is hard. Even when temptation
whispers,
even when compromise feels easier, God
is not looking for flawless saints. He
is looking for surrendered hearts. And
the promise is sure. He rewards
faithfulness.
The scripture reminds us of this truth
in Hebrews 11:6.
Without faith, it is impossible to
please God because anyone who comes to
him must believe that he exists and that
he rewards those who earnestly seek him.
This is the reward of righteousness.
As Jesus said in Matthew 6 33
but seek first his kingdom and his
righteousness,
and all these things will be given to
you as well.
So today let us examine our hearts.
Are we striving to walk in our own
righteousness
or are we allowing Christ to live his
righteousness through us?
Are we practicing faithfulness in the
small things
knowing that the Lord sees and he
rewards?
Remember,
David in 1 Samuel refused to lay a hand
on Saul even when he had the chance.
Why?
Because his faithfulness to God mattered
more than seizing an opportunity by
force.
That kind of righteousness comes from a
heart fully surrendered.
Let us then be people who love God with
our whole being, who obey his word, who
walk by his spirit, and who remain
faithful even in trials.
For the Lord rewards righteousness and
faithfulness.
Now, let's take a moment to pray
together.
Dear Lord Jesus,
you alone are holy.
You alone are righteous.
You are the spotless lamb of God. The
one who was, who is, and who is to come.
Father, when l consider your perfection,
I realize how small and fragile my own
efforts are.
If l attempt to live righteously in my
own strength, relying only on my
willpower or discipline, I know I will
stumble and fall.
For as your word reminds me in Romans 3: 23,
all have sinned and fall short of the
glory of God.
Yet you, Lord, in your great mercy, have
made a way for me.
Your word declares in Galatians 2:20,
I have been crucified with Christ, and
it is no longer I who ive, but Christ
who lives in me. And the life I now live
in the body, I live by faith in the Son
of God, who loved me and gave himself
for me.
Lord, this truth humbles me. My old life
of sin was nailed to the cross with you.
My selfish desires, my past failures, my
brokenness, all were buried with you.
And now the life I live is not my own,
but yours.
So Jesus, I ask you today, live in me.
Fill me with your Spirit so completely
that every trace of sin and corruption
is displaced by your presence.
Break every chain that binds me.
Destroy the power of sin that tries to
control my thoughts, my desires, and my
actions.
Remove everything within me that is
unclean.
everything that does not reflect your
holiness.
Lord, I cry out to you. Purify me. Wash
me in your blood and cleanse me from the
inside out.
From this moment forward, may there be
less of me and more of You.
As John the Baptist once declared in
John 3:30,
"He must increase, but I must decrease.
Father, let that be true of me. Take my
life. I place it into your hands
completely.
Lead me in your ways and may your
commandments outweigh my selfish
ambitions.
God, hold my hand and guide me.
You are the good Shepherd and I am your
meek and lowly sheep.
Keep me close to you so l will not
wander.
Your word says in Psalm 23:3,
"He restores my soul. He leads me in the
paths of righteousness for his name's
sake."
Lord, I know that when you are leading
me, I will never be led astray.
When you guide my steps, I will never be
abandoned.
Father, teach me to live according to
Psalm 1:2.
Blessed
is the one who does not
walk in
the counsel of the wicked, nor stand in
the way of sinners, nor sit in the seat
of scoffers,
but his delight is in the law of the
Lord, and on his law he meditates day
and night.
Lord, let me not be found standing among
those who mock your truth or delight in
evil.
Give me a heart that treasures your
word, a heart that hungers for scripture
more than food and thirsts for your
presence more than water.
Help me to meditate on your word day and
night so that my steps may always be
steady and sure.
l acknowledge, Lord, that only in you
can I find true strength.
You never disappoint.
You never fail.
You are the God who gives me peace when
my mind is restless.
The God who provides direction when I am
lost.
The God who gives leadership when I do
not know the way. So today I bow before
you, King Jesus, in complete surrender.
Lord, may the fear of the Lord rest upon
me. For your word says in Proverbs chapter
9:10,
"The fear of the Lord is the beginning
of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One
is understanding.
Grant me that wisdom, Lord.
Let reverence for you keep me from evil.
May my steps always be guarded by holy
fear. Not fear that cripples, but fear
that honors your majesty and keeps me
close to your path.
And when I walk through dark valleys, I
will not be afraid,
for you are with me.
Even in the valley of the shadow of
death, you give peace.
Even when the night is long, you give
joy.
Your rod and staff comfort me, and I
trust you to lead me safely home.
Thank you, Lord, for giving me the
strength to overcome sin.
Thank you for making a way when I could
not make one for myself.
Continue to increase in my life as I
decrease.
Let my pride fade away and let humility
take root.
Let my will bow to yours until your
desires become my desires.
Father, I honor you with my heart andI
lift my voice in gratitude.
Thank you for restoring me and for
leading me into righteousness for the
glory of your name. In the mighty and
precious name of Jesus Christ, I pray.
Amen.
