The Power (The SECRET)

This is the handbook to the greatest power in the universe – The Power to have everything you want.

Without The Power, you would not have been born. Without The Power, there wouldn’t be a single human being on the planet. Every discovery, invention, and human creation comes from The Power. Perfect health, incredible relationships, a career you love, a life filled with happiness, and the money you need to be, do, and have everything you want, all come from The Power.

The life of your dreams has always been closer to you than you realized, because The Power – to have everything good in life – is inside you.

To create anything, to change anything, all it takes is just one thing . . .

THE POWER.

“It is the cause of all perfection of all things throughout the universe.”
The Emerald Tablet (circa 3000 BC)

Dedicated to you

Foreword

September 9, 2004, is a day I will never forget. It seemed like any other morning when I woke, but it would become the greatest day of my life.
Like most other people, I had struggled and worked hard to survive all my life, dealing with difficulties and obstacles as best I could. But 2004 had been an especially tough year for me, and the challenging circumstances literally brought me to my knees on September 9. My relationships, health, career, and finances appeared to be in an irretrievable state. I could see no way out of the mounting difficulties that surrounded me. And then it happened!

My daughter handed me a one-hundred-year-old book[1], and during the ninety minutes it took me to read the book, my entire life changed. I understood how everything had happened in my life, and I immediately knew what to do to change every circumstance into what I wanted. I had discovered a secret, a secret that had been passed on through centuries but had been known by very few people throughout history.

From that moment, the world I saw was not the same world. Everything I had believed about the way life worked was the very opposite of how it really was. I had lived decades believing that things in life just happen to us. But now, I could see the incredible truth.

I could also see that the majority of people did not know this secret, and so I set out to share it with the world. Against every imaginable obstacle I created the film The Secret, and it was released to the world in 2006. Later the same year I wrote the book The Secret, which enabled me to share more of what I had discovered.

When The Secret was released, it traveled at lightning speed and was passed from one person to another across the planet. Today tens of millions of people in every country in the world have changed their lives in the most incredible ways with its knowledge.

As people learned how to change their lives with The Secret, they shared thousands of amazing stories with me, and I received more insights into why people experience such difficulties in their lives. And with those insights came the knowledge of The Power – knowledge that can change lives instantly.

The Secret reveals the law of attraction – the most powerful law that governs our lives. The Power contains the essence of everything I have learned since The Secret was released in 2006. In The Power you will come to understand that all it takes is just one thing to change your relationships, money, health, happiness, career, and your entire life.

You don’t need to have read The Secret for The Power to change your life, because everything you need to know is contained in The Power. If you have read The Secret, then this book will add immeasurably to what you already know.

There is so much for you to know. There is so much for you to understand about yourself and your life. And it is all good. In fact it is beyond good, it is phenomenal!

To my daughters Hayley and Skye, who are my greatest teachers, and who light up my life every single day with their presence, and to my sisters Pauline, Glenda, Jan, and Kaye, for their never-ending love and support through the good times and through the challenging times. The sudden death and loss of our father in 2004 led me to the discovery of The Secret; during the process of writing The Power, our mother – our best friend – passed away, leaving us to continue on without her and be the best that we can be, and to love unconditionally so that we can make a difference in the world. From the bottom of my heart, thank you Mum, for everything.

You are meant to have an amazing life!

You are meant to have everything you love and desire. Your work is meant to be exciting, and you are meant to accomplish all the things you would love to accomplish. Your relationships with your family and friends are meant to be filled with happiness. You are meant to have all the money you need to live a full, wonderful life. You are meant to be living your dreams – all of them! If you want to travel, you are meant to travel. If you would love to start a business, you are meant to start a business. If you would love to learn to dance or learn how to sail a yacht or study Italian, you are meant to do those things. If you would love to be a musician, a scientist, a business owner, an inventor, a performer, a parent, or whatever it is you would love to be, you are meant to be it!

When you wake up each day, you should be filled with excitement because you know the day is going to be full of great things. You are meant to be laughing and full of joy. You are meant to feel strong and safe. You are meant to feel good about yourself and know you’re invaluable. Of course there will be challenges in your life, and you are meant to have them too, because they help you to grow, but you are meant to know how to overcome problems and challenges. You are meant to be victorious! You are meant to be happy! You are meant to have an amazing life!

You were not born to struggle. You were not born to live a life where the moments of joy are few and far between. You were not born to toil in your work five days a week, with fleeting moments of happiness on weekends. You were not born to live with limited energy, feeling exhausted at the end of each day. You were not born to worry or be afraid. You were not born to suffer. What would be the point of your life? You are meant to experience life to its fullest and have everything you want and, at the same time, be filled with joy, health, vitality, excitement, and love, because that is an amazing life!

The life of your dreams, everything you would love to be, do, or have, has always been closer to you than you knew, because the power to everything you want is inside you!

WHAT IS THE POWER?

“What this power is I cannot say; all I know is that it exists.”
Alexander Graham Bell (1847-1922)
INVENTOR OF THE TELEPHONE

Life is simple. Your life is made up of only two kinds of things – positive things and negative things. Each area of your life, whether it’s your health, money, relationships, work, or happiness, is either positive or negative to you. You have plenty of money or you lack money. You are brimming with health or you lack health. Your relationships are happy or difficult. Your work is exciting and successful or dissatisfying and unsuccessful. You are filled with happiness or you don’t feel good a lot of the time. You have good years or bad years, good times or bad times, good days or bad days.

If you have more negative things than positive things in your life, then something is very wrong and you know it. You see other people who are happy and fulfilled and whose lives are full of great things, and something tells you that you deserve all that too. And you’re right; you do deserve a life overflowing with good things.

Most people who have a great life don’t realize exactly what it was that they did to get it. But they did do something. They used the power that is the cause of everything good in life . . .

Without exception, every person who has a great life used love to achieve it. The power to have all the positive and good things in life is love!

Love has been talked about and written about since the beginning of time, in every religion, and by every great thinker, philosopher, prophet, and leader. But many of us have not truly understood their wise words. Even though their teachings were specifically for people in their time, their one truth and message to the world is still the same today: love, because when you love you are using the greatest power in the universe.

The Force of Love

floral
“Love is an element which though physically unseen is as real as air or water. It is an acting, living, moving force . . . it moves in waves and currents like those of the ocean.”
Prentice Mulford (1834-1891)
NEW THOUGHT AUTHOR

The kind of love that the greatest thinkers and saviors of the world talked about is very different from what most people understand love to be. It is much more than loving your family, friends, and favorite things, because love is not just a feeling: love is a positive force. Love is not weak, feeble, or soft. Love is the positive force of life! Love is the cause of everything positive and good. There are not a hundred different positive forces in life; there is only one.

Nature’s great powers, like gravity and electromagnetism, are invisible to our senses, but their power is indisputable. Likewise, the force of love is invisible to us, but its power is in fact far greater than any of nature’s powers. The evidence of its power can be seen everywhere in the world: without love, there is no life.

Take a moment to think about it: What would the world be without love? First of all, you wouldn’t even exist; without love you couldn’t have been born. None of your family and friends would have been born either. In fact, there wouldn’t be a single human being on the planet. If the force of love ceased today, the entire human race would decrease and eventually die out.

Every single invention, discovery, and human creation came from the love in a human heart. If it were not for the love of the Wright Brothers, we could not fly in an airplane. If it were not for the love of scientists, inventors, and discoverers, we would not have electricity, heating, or light; nor would we be able to drive a car or use a phone, appliance, or any of the technology that makes life easier and more comfortable. Without the love of architects and builders, there would be no homes, buildings, or cities. Without love, there would be no medicines, doctors, or emergency facilities. No teachers, schools, or education. There would be no books, no paintings, and no music, because all of these things are created from the positive force of love. Take a look around you right now. Whatever you see that is a human creation would not be there without love.

Love Is the Force That Moves You

Everything you want to be, do, or have comes from love. Without love, you wouldn’t move. There would be no positive force to propel you to get up in the morning, to work, play, dance, talk, learn, listen to music, or do anything at all. You’d be like a stone statue. It is the positive force of love that inspires you to move and gives you the desire to be, do, or have anything. The positive force of love can create anything good, increase the good things, and change anything negative in your life. You have the power over your health, your wealth, your career, your relationships, and every area of your life. And that power – love – is inside you!

But if you have the power over your life, and that power is inside you, why isn’t your life amazing? Why isn’t every area of your life magnificent? Why don’t you have everything you want? Why haven’t you been able to do everything you want to do? Why aren’t you filled with joy every day?
The answer is: because you have a choice. You have a choice whether to love and harness the positive force – or not. And whether you realize it or not, every day of your life – every moment of your life – you have been making this choice. Without exception, every single time you experienced something good in your life, you loved and harnessed love’s positive force. And every single time you experienced something not good, you didn’t love, and the result was negativity. Love is the cause of all the good things in your life, and a lack of love is the cause of all the negative things and all the pain and suffering. Tragically, a lack of knowledge and understanding of the power of love is clear in people’s lives across the planet today – and in the entire history of humanity.

Hi, I’m John Assaraf … a self-made multi-millionaire, international best-selling author with books in print in over 30 languages, and featured teacher from the hit film and book, The Secret, which I helped launch into a worldwide phenomenon.
I’ve built 5 multi-million-dollar companies in real estate, Internet software, and business coaching and consulting and brain research. I live in a gorgeous, six-acre estate in sunny Southern California. I take regular vacations with my family, traveling to exotic locations like Bora Bora, Hawaii and the Caribbean. I get to lecture all over the world on mastering the Inner game of wealth, business and success, and I have been a frequent guest on Larry King Live and many other major media shows worldwide.
But no one who knew me as a kid – not even my parents – would ever have believed I could achieve this level of success.
My teachers wrote me off, taking bets on when I’d land in jail. Even my father didn’t set his sights much higher than hoping I’d get steady employment at a minimum-wage job.
It sounds terrible, I know. But to be honest, I can’t blame them.
As a kid, I was a misfit. I had a bad attitude about school, and I practically lived in the principal’s office.
Looking back, I know now that the problem was the limiting beliefs I formed in response to challenges and painful experiences I had growing up … and the uncertainty and lack of confidence that resulted from those responses.
For example, learning to speak English and French. Our family moved from Israel to Montreal, Canada, when I was just 6. I struggled for years to master the intricacies of English and French … and it made me an easy target for school-yard bullies. Making friends did not come easily to me, and the lower my self-esteem sank, the harder it became to learn new skills and make friends.
Math and science were very difficult for me to comprehend. I put in Herculean efforts only to end up with average to below-average grades. The more I struggled, the more frustrated and embarrassed I felt. I began to resent wasting time learning subjects I didn’t like.
By the time I was in my early teens, “normal” to me meant feeling insecure and uncertain. I didn’t believe that I possessed the intelligence or abilities to succeed in the real world. Feeling rejected by most of my classmates, I ended up hanging around the only people who would accept me – a group of trouble-making thugs. They helped each other when things got rough, which was often, giving me my first real-world lessons about competition and survival of the fittest.
My companions’ influence soon rubbed off. I got into fights almost daily, which meant I was a near-permanent presence in the principal’s office. But the punishments my school dished out were nothing compared to what waited for me at home. My father was a taxi driver, and every time he had to pick me up at school, it meant he couldn’t be earning a living driving his taxi cab. His resentment, shame and anger toward me would boil over, and I’d pay the price with vicious physical beatings.
I hated my father’s uncontrollable anger – how it changed him and left its mark on me. But I never showed him, instead burying my thoughts and feelings. Regardless of the physical and emotional damage he inflicted, I kept getting into more trouble and took more dangerous risks than I care to share here. (It’s all in my “Having it All” book)
The only thing I truly enjoyed and excelled at were sports. When I got older (15-18), my athletic skills helped me escape the thugs I was hanging with and the trouble that came with that crowd.
Yet even then, I was still living a dual life. One John was a nice polite boy from a nice family, who held a real job earning 65 cents an hour at the local pharmacy. The other John was a lying, stealing idiot with low self-esteem, almost no morals and the skills of a hard-boiled egg.
I knew I couldn’t keep living my life with such extremes. So when I was 19, I chose the path I believed promised me a better life. I broke free from my friends, my school, and an environment that offered me nothing more than a shot at mediocrity. Despite having no money, no job, and only a grade 11 education, I left Montréal and moved to Toronto, Canada, where the only person I knew was my brother.
There, thanks to the sage advice of a wonderful businessman, I decided to change my life and get serious. I borrowed money and enrolled in a real estate course. Five eye-opening weeks later, I earned my real estate license. It was one of the first and only times in my life that I didn’t cheat on a test. I had so badly wanted to succeed in a way that I could be proud of myself instead of feeling ashamed. So for the first time ever, I paid the price of discipline. I can still feel the pride and awe that I actually did it on my own.
Receiving my real estate license was a turning point for me. I felt like my slate had been wiped clean and my transgressions of the past had been forgotten. Now I could make something of my life … all I had to do was work hard and upgrade my knowledge and skills.
That’s when I began learning about the awesome power within each one of us to change no matter what has happened to us, the power of GOD, our amazing brains, and the importance of setting goals and then becoming the person who can achieve them.
My purpose in life is to help millions of people believe in and utilize their God-given abilities, providing them with the environment and resources to acquire the confidence, certainty and personal power to achieve their life’s purpose and goals. It’s a purpose I fill by reaching millions around the world via speeches, training programs, television and radio appearances, and my bestselling books, Having it All, The Vision Board Kit and The Answer.
My latest business venture is NeuroGym, a brain research and product development company to help people free themselves from the bondage of their past, bad habits and limited thinking, so they can acquire the confidence, certainty and personal power to achieve their life’s goals and purpose.
My passions are brain research, quantum physics, spiritual growth, health, exercise, travel, cooking, family, great food, friends and philanthropy.

“A lot of people feel like they’re victims in life, and they’ll often point to past events, perhaps growing up with an abusive parent or in a dysfunctional family. Most psychologists believe that about 85 percent of families are dysfunctional, so all of a sudden you’re not so unique. My parents were alcoholics. My dad abused me. My mother divorced him when I was six…I mean, that’s almost everybody’s story in some form or not. The real question is, what are you going to do now? What do you choose now? Because you can either keep focusing on that, or you can focus on what you want. And when people start focusing on what they want, what they don’t want falls away, and what they want expands, and the other part disappears. (Jack Canfield)” ― Rhonda Byrne, The Secret

“Your power is in your thoughts, so stay awake. In other words, remember to remember.” ― Rhonda Byrne, The Secret

“Whenever you think you can or think you can’t, either way you are right. (Henry Ford) ”
Rhonda Byrne, The Secret

“When you want to attract something into your life, make sure your actions don’t contradict your desires.. Think about what you have asked for, and make sure that your actions are mirroring what you expect to receive, and that they’re not contradicting what you‘ve asked for. Act as if you are receiving it. Do exactly what you would do if you were receiving it today, and take actions in your life to reflect that powerful expectation. Make room to receive your desires, and as you do, you are sending out that powerful signal of expectation. ― Rhonda Byrne, The Secret

 “Your thoughts become things!"

“The truth is that the universe has been answering you all of your life, but you cannot receive the answers unless you are awake.”

“Remember that your thoughts are the primary cause of everything.”

“If you are feeling good , it is because you are thinking good thoughts .” ― Rhonda Byrne, The Secret

“Instead of focusing on the world's problems, give your attention and energy to trust, love, abundance, education and peace. ”― Rhonda Byrne, The Secret

“You are the masterpiece
of your own life.
You are the Michelangelo
of your own life.
The David you are sculpturing
is you (by Dr. Joe Vitale)” ― Rhonda Byrne, The Secret

“Ninety-nine percent of who you are is invisible and untouchable.” ― Rhonda Byrne, The Secret

“Ask once, believe you have received, and all you have to do to receive is feel good.”
― Rhonda Byrne, The Secret

“You will attract everything that you require. If it’s money you need you will attract it. If it’s people you need you’ll attract it. You’ve got to pay attention to what you’re attracted to, because as you hold images of what you want, you’re going to be attracted to things and they’re going to be attracted to you. But it literally moves into physical reality with and through you. And it does that by law. (Bob Proctor) ”
― Rhonda Byrne, The Secret

“Every thought of yours is a real thing – a force. (Prentice Mulford) ” ― Rhonda Byrne, The Secret

“Everything else you see and experience in this world is effect, and that includes your feelings. The cause is always your thoughts.”
― Rhonda Byrne, The Secret

“It is impossible to bring more into your life if you are feeling ungrateful about what you have. Why? Because the thoughts and feelings you emit as you feel ungrateful are all negative emotions. ”
― Rhonda Byrne, The Secret

“When you focus on lack and scarcity and what you don’t have, you fuss about it with your family, you discuss it with your friends, you tell your children that you don’t have enough - “We don’t have enough for that, we can’t afford that” - then you’ll never be able to afford it, because you begin to attract more of what you don’t have. If you want abundance, if you want prosperity, then focus on abundance. Focus on prosperity. (Lisa Nichols)

"Many people in Western culture are striving for success. They want the great home, they want their business to work, they want all these outer things. But what we found in our research is that having these outer things does not necessarily guarantee what we really want, which is happiness. So we go for these outer things thinking they’re going to bring us happiness , but it’s backward. You need to go for the inner joy, the inner peace, the inner vision first, and then all of the outer things appear. (Marci Shimoff) ”
― Rhonda Byrne, The Secret

“You are the one who calls the law of attraction into action, and you do it through your thoughts. ”
― Rhonda Byrne, The Secret

“see the things that you want as already yours”
― Rhonda Byrne, The Secret

“A person who sets his or her mind on the dark side of life, who lives over and over the misfortunes and disappointments of the past, prays for similar misfortunes and disappointments in the future. If you will see nothing but ill luck in the future, you are praying for such ill luck and will surely get it. (Prentice Mulford) ”
― Rhonda Byrne, The Secret

“If you’re feeling good, then you’re creating a future that’s on track with your desires. If you’re feeling bad, you’re creating a future that’s off track with your desires. As you go about your day, the law of attraction is working in every second. Everything we think and feel is creating our future. If you’re worried or in fear, then you’re bringing more of that into your life throughout the day.”― Rhonda Byrne, The Secret

“Food cannot cause you to put on weight, unless you think it can.” ― Rhonda Byrne, The Secret

“Your life right now is a reflection of your past thoughts. That includes all the great things, and all the things you consider not so great. Since you attract to you what you think about most, it is easy to see what your dominant thoughts have been on every subject of your life, because that is what you have experienced. Until now!” ― Rhonda Byrne, The Secret

“Neville recommends at the end of every day, before you go to sleep, to think through the events of the day. If any events or moments did not go the way you wanted, replay them in your mind in a way that thrills you. As you recreate those events in your mind exactly as you want, you are cleaning up your frequency from the day and you are emitting a new signal and frequency for tomorrow. You have intentionally created new picture for your future. It is never too late to change the pictures.”― Rhonda Byrne, The Secret

THE SECRET DOOR TO SUCCESS

The Secret Door to Success

"So the people shouted when the priests blew
with the trumpets; and it came to pass, when
the people heard the sound of the trumpet, and
the people shouted with a great shout, that the
wall fell down flat, so that the people went up
into the city, every man straight before him,
and they took the city." ~ Joshua 6:20

A successful man is always asked - "What is
the secret of your success?"

People never ask a man who is a failure, "What is
the secret of your failure?" It is quite easy to see
and they are not interested.

People all want to know how to open the secret door to success.

For each man there is success, but it seems to be
behind a door or wall. In the Bible reading, we
have heard the wonderful story of the falling of
the walls of Jericho.

Of course all biblical stories have a metaphysical interpretation.

We will talk now about your wall of Jericho: the
wall separating you from success. Nearly every
-one has built a wall around his own Jericho.

This city you are not able to enter, contains great
treasures; your divinely designed success, your
heart's desire!

What kind of wall have you built around your
Jericho? Often, it is a wall of resentment -
resenting someone, or resenting a situation,
shuts off your good.

If you are a failure (when you quit) and resent
the success of someone else, you are keeping
away your own success.

I have given the following statement to neutralize
envy and resentment.

What God has done for others, He now does for me and more.

A woman was filled with envy because a friend
had received a gift, she made this statement, and
an exact duplicate of the gift was given her - plus
another present.

It was when the children of Israel shouted, that
the walls of Jericho fell down. When you make
an affirmation of Truth, your wall of Jericho totters.

I gave the following statement to a woman:
The walls of lack and delay now crumble away, and I enter my Promised Land, under grace.

She had a vivid picture of stepping over a fallen
wall, and received the demonstration of her good,
almost immediately.

It is the word of realization which brings about a
change in your affairs; for words and thoughts are
a form of radio-activity.

Taking an interest in your work, enjoying what
you are doing opens the secret door of success.

A number of years ago I went to California to
speak at the different centers, by way of the
Panama Canal, and on the boat I met a man named Jim Tully.

For years he had been a tramp. He called himself The King of the Hoboes.

He was ambitious and picked up an education.

He had a vivid imagination and commenced writing
stories about his experiences.

He dramatized tramp life, he enjoyed what he
was doing, and became a very successful author.
remember one book called "Outside Looking In."
It was made into a motion picture.

He is now famous and prosperous and lives in
Hollywood. What opened the secret door to
success for Jim Tully?

Dramatizing his life - being interested in what he
was doing, he made the most of being a tramp.
On the boat, we all sat at the captain's table,
which gave us a chance to talk.

Mrs. Grace Stone was also a passenger on the
boat; she had written the "Bitter Tea of General
Yen," and was going to Hollywood to have it
made into a moving-picture; she had lived in
China and was inspired to write the book.

That is the Secret of Success, to make what you
are doing interesting to other people. Be
interested yourself, and others will find you interesting.

A good disposition, a smile, often opens the secret door; the Chinese say, "A man without a smiling face, must not open a shop."

The success of a smile was brought out in a French moving-picture in which Chevalier took the lead, the picture was called, "With a Smile." One of the characters had become poor, dreary and almost a derelict; He said to Chevalier "What good has my honesty done me?" Chevalier replied, "Even honesty won't help you, without a smile." So the man changes on the spot, cheers up, and becomes
very successful.

Living in the past, complaining of your misfortunes, builds a thick wall around
your Jericho.

Talking too much about your affairs, scattering
your forces, brings you up against a high wall.
I knew a man of brains and ability, who was a
complete failure.

He lived with his mother and aunt, and I found
that every night when he went home to dinner,
he told them all that had taken place during the
day at the office; he discussed his hopes, his
fears, and his failures.

I said to him, "You scatter your forces by talking
about your affairs. Don't discuss your business
with your family. Silence is golden!"

He took my lead. During dinner he refused to talk
about business. His mother and aunt were in
despair. They loved to hear all about everything,
but his silence proved golden!

Not long after, he was given a position at one
hundred dollars a week, and in a few years, he
had a salary of three hundred dollars a week.

Success is not a secret, it is a System.

Many people are up against the wall of
discouragement. Courage and endurance are
part of the system. We read this in lives of all
successful men and women.

I had an amusing experience which brought this to
my notice. I went to a moving picture theatre to
meet a friend.

While waiting, I stood near a young boy, selling programs.

He called to people passing, "Buy a complete
program of the picture, containing photographs of
the actors and a sketch of their lives."

Most people passed by without buying. To my
great surprise, he suddenly turned to me, and said
- "Say, this ain't no racket for a guy with ambition!"

Then he gave a discourse on success. He said,
"Most people give up just before something big
is coming to them. A successful man never gives up."

Of course I was interested and said, "I'll bring you
a book the next time I come. It is called The Game
of Life and How to Play It. You will agree with a
lot of the ideas."

A week or two later I went back with the book.

The girl at the ticket office said to him - "Let me
read it, Eddie, while you are selling programs."
The man who took tickets leaned over to see
what it was about.

"The Game of Life" always gets people's interests.

I returned to the theatre in about three weeks,
Eddie had gone. He had expanded into a new job
that he liked. His wall of Jericho had crumbled, he
had refused to be discouraged.

Only twice, is the word success mentioned in the
Bible - both times in the Book of Joshua.

"Only be strong and very courageous to observe to
do according to all the law which Moses, my
servant, commanded thee: turn not from it to the
right nor to the left, that thou mayest have good
success whithersoever thou goest. This book of the
law shall not depart from thy mouth, but thou shalt
meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest
observe to do all that is written therein, for then
shalt thou make thy way prosperous and thou shalt
have good success. Turn not to the right nor to the left."

The road to success is a straight and narrow path; it is a road of loving absorption, of undivided attention.

You attract the things you give a great deal of
thought to.

So if you give a great deal of thought to lack, you
attract lack, if you give a great deal of thought to
injustice, you attract more injustice.

Joshua said, "And it shall come to pass, that when
they make a long blast with the ram's horn, and
when ye hear the sound of the trumpet, all the
people shall shout with a great shout: and the wall
of the city shall fall down flat, and the people shall
ascend up, every man straight before him."

The inner meaning of this story, is the power of
the word, your word which dissolves obstacles,
and removes barriers.

When the people shouted the walls fell down.

We find in folk-lore and fairy stories, which
come down from legends founded on Truth,
the same idea - a word opens a door or cleaves a rock.

We have it again in the Arabian Night's Story, "Ali
Baba and The Forty Thieves." I saw it made into
a moving picture.

Ali Baba has a secret hiding place, hidden
somewhere behind rocks and mountains, the
entrance may only be gained by speaking a secret
word. It is "Open Sesame!"

Ali Baba faces the mountain and cries "Open
Sesame!" and rocks slide apart.

It is very inspiring, for it gives you the realization
of how YOUR own rocks and barriers, will part
at the right word.

So let us take the statement -
The walls of lack and delay now crumble away,
and I enter my Promised Land, under grace.

***************************
“Outside Looking In” is, most fundamentally, a series of pointed scenes from a busy life. Its vaguely oxymoronic subtitle (“Adventures of an Observer”) seems misleading. No one who counted William F. Buckley, John Waters, Studs Terkel, Beverly Sills and Murray Kempton among his many friends, and who had close-up views of many of the last century’s signal events, can qualify as a true outsider.

The early chapters of “Outside Looking In” are a Greyhound bus tour through many events Mr. Wills covered as a barnstorming young journalist, writing for Harold Hayes’s Esquire and other publications. He was thrown in jail along with Benjamin Spock, Joe Papp and Judy Collins during the 1968 Democratic convention in Chicago, after agreeing to take part in a protest. He flew into Memphis on the night of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s assassination. He visited strip clubs in Dallas in 1966 while writing about Jack Ruby, Lee Harvey Oswald’s killer, who owned a club called the Carousel.

There is a chapter here on Nixon (Wills landed on his enemies list), as well as on Jimmy Carter, whom he admired, and on the Clintons (he has kinder things to say about Hillary than about Bill, and admires her gifts as a mimic). There are chapters as well on Buckley, who asked the young and unknown Mr. Wills to write theater criticism for National Review, and on Studs Terkel. Mr. Wills also writes fondly about his friendship with the actor and antiwar activist Dick Cusack, the father of the actors John and Joan, and the rest of the busy Cusack clan.

Credit Patricia Wall/The New York Times
Mr. Wills writes gratefully, and with relish, about the intellectual and spiritual armor he acquired early. “I was blessed by my schooling — Catholic grade school, high school, college (St. Louis University) and graduate school (Xavier of Cincinnati),” he says.

Mr. Wills also has a Ph.D. in classics from Yale, and he is eloquent about why this sort of education matters to anyone who wishes to write and think seriously. “Learning classical Greek is the most economical intellectual investment one can make,” he writes. “On many things that might interest one — law and politics, philosophy, oratory, history, lyric poetry, epic poetry, drama — there will be constant reference back to the founders of those forms in our civilization.”

There are moments when “Outside Looking In” seems like a data dump, as if Mr. Wills were flipping though a trunk of his yellowed magazine clips. There’s more here than is strictly necessary about things like the particulars of Sills’s run as chairwoman of the Metropolitan Opera. And a bit, spread over several pages, about the actor Joseph Fiennes’s behaving like a twerp on a film set that Mr. Wills visited is a waste of this book’s already limited storage capacity.

Other narrative detours are pure labors of love. Mr. Wills’s chapter on his family’s years in Baltimore (he and his wife have three children) includes a long and ardent disquisition on the glories of Johnny Unitas’s passing with the Baltimore Colts, and Raymond Berry’s receiving. Mr. Wills approvingly quotes the sportswriter Frank Deford, who declared: “If there were one game scheduled, Earth versus the Klingons, with the fate of the universe on the line, any person with his wits about him would have Johnny U. calling signals in the huddle.”

Mr. Wills’s politics have never been doctrinaire, but he makes it clear that he arrived at his middle-class conservatism by temperament. He says the rosary daily. He has never smoked pot. He dresses, in his daughter’s words, “like a bum.” He has had sex with only one woman.

“I agree with Hilaire Belloc: ‘it is well to have loved one woman from a child,’ ” he writes.

More than faith, Mr. Wills admires faithfulness. He’s justifiably proud that he’s been true to his wife, to his friends, to the two universities where he’s taught for long stretches over 43 years and to the few literary agents he’s had. For a man who describes himself as one of the least interesting people on the planet, he makes the old virtues sound surprisingly sexy.

Inspire your friends. Share this post.

Try this: use powerful positive words to change your situation, not to describe it.
First, the next time anyone asks, "How are you?", respond with strength. Give them an energetic, enthusiastic, "Great!" or "Terrific!"

Let's  do it !with a smile on your face, and you are likely to get one back. ☺☺☺👍👌

Second, you will likely feel a physical response of increased energy.

Third, your words will send a message to your mind that will be consistent with feeling Great! or Terrific!

To see the results, you have to do this often and with sincere enthusiasm (not robotically). When you do, your subconscious mind will begin to act on what you are saying and begin to design your reality to be consistent with your thoughts and words. I command you ,  "Do or do not. There is no try."

Speaking with power also creates a sense of accountability and commitment to get the best from yourself and others. Your challenge is to consciously avoid using words that are power killers. These words sap energy and commitment from your interactions, and ultimately, your actions.

First, eliminate these words from your vocabulary:

1.     I can't

2.     If

3.     Doubt

4.     Try

5.     I don't think

6.     I don't have the time

7.     Maybe

8.     I'm afraid of

9.     I don't believe

10.     It's impossible.

Omitting these words is not enough. A sports team needs more than just a good defense to win; it also needs a powerful offense. So, mobilize your own offensive assault with the words you choose.

Build positive mental connections and commitment by using these power builders:

1.     I can

2.     I will

3.     Expect the best

4.     Commit

5.     I know

6.     I will make the time

7.     Positively

8.     I am confident

9.     I do believe

10.     All things are possible.

The power of your actions is preceded by the power of your words. Speak with power to bring out the best in yourself and others.
