Physical Therapy Service

Physical Therapy
“I come to you”
At-Home, In-Office, At-Fitness Facility

The Physical Therapy service that I provide is delivered to you at your home, at your office, or at your fitness facility.  I come to you.

It is cash based Physical Therapy.
Cash based service allows me to provide direct one on one high quality service.   Traditional health insurance based Physical Therapy is burdened with administrative requirements which take time away from the services that I provide.  Removing the requirements from health insurance plans provides a unique opportunity to take control of your problem.

Depending on what your expectations and goals are you can have a Physical Therapy visit last as long as you want or as short as you want.  Depending on what your expectations and goals are you can have as many Physical Therapy visits as you want or as few visits as you want.  We have control.

Are you looking for Physical Therapy service that provides?

good enough healthcare
•all the healthcare you need to get back to what you want to do
•healthcare that is all the way well care

Together we can take the time to identify, clarify and measure your expectations and goals.  We can become a team without hassles from a health insurance company.  When the goals and expectations are agreed upon as Steven Covey said, we “can begin with the end in mind”.  If we do not come to agreement on your expectations and goals, I will assist you in finding a more appropriate healthcare professional team member to help.

The expense of this type of healthcare is not necessarily more expensive than insurance based healthcare it is differently expensive.

•The expense/cost can be less than traditional insurance based Physical Therapy.  National benchmarks for traditional health insurance based Physical Therapy is typically10 Physical Therapy visits per episode of care.  I have honed my craft to a point where the average number of visits per episode of care is 3 visits.  Using a standard outcome measure that is used by over 7 million Physical Therapists my score for improvement per visit ranks in the 97th percentile I provide effective and efficient service.
•If you have a health insurance plan with a high deductible, and are healthy, using cash based fee for service makes sense.  I provide statements to you which you can submit and apply to your out of network deductible.
•All of the time during the visit with me is one on one with me.  If you are going to pay for skilled Physical Therapy visit it makes sense to spend all of the time with the Therapist, as opposed to a PT Tech or exercising on your own during the PT clinic visit.
•If you have used all your allotted visits allowed by your health insurance plan for the year and you need additional Physical Therapy, using traditional insurance based Physical Therapy will be higher than using cash based Physical Therapy services.  You will be responsible for the entire bill including co-pay. And, the time spent with the skilled Physical Therapists typically is only 15 minutes/visit.
•If you do not have health insurance the quality and efficiency of cashed based fee for service Physical Therapy is better than traditional insurance Physical Therapy.
•If you prefer privacy and convenience of At-Home, At-Office, At-Fitness Facility,  I can help.  Scheduling times are available early morning, evening, and weekends.  On-line access is available.

Give me a phone call for a free consultation +65 9733 0932.  I will provide details of benefits and costs of cash based Physical Therapy and a worksheet you can use to determine what your health insurance benefits and costs for Physical Therapy would be.  You can than compare to determine if using cash based Physical Therapy makes sense.

Services provided:

•Orthopedic Physical Therapy
•Second opinions regarding Orthopedic Physical Therapy
•In home/office/vehicle ergonomic evaluation
•Assistance in ordering adaptive medical equipment, and home modifications to address movement system dysfunction
•Education on treatment/prevention or movement system disorders, and wellness
•Gait evaluation gait training motion analysis

If you combine, time saved, less time in pain, less time traveling to clinic, greater knowledge and understanding of your problem and being empowered to self-manage the problem, At-Home, At-Office, and At Fitness Facility Cash Based Service can be a real bargain.

Fluid Replacement Controversy: Too Little – Too Much
In 1996 the American College of Sports Medicine (www.acsm-msse.orgposition stand on exercise and fluid replacement recommended that during exercise athletes should start drinking early and at regular intervals in an attempt to consume fluids at a rate sufficient to replace all the water lost through sweating (i.e. body weight loss), or consume the maximal amount that can be tolerated. Since 1996 studies have documented athletes can over drink, leading to water retention, weight gain, and in a few cases death from exercise associated hyponatraemic encephalopathy. Hyponatraemia is water poisoning; there is far too much water and too little sodium in the body. Symptoms associated with hyponatraemia include nausea, vomiting, head aches, cramps, convulsions, leading to coma. A study in 2002 documented that 13% of the Boston Marathon runners suffered from hyponatraemia. Hyponatremia is defined as a serum sodium level of less than 135 mEq/L and is considered severe when the serum level is below 125 mEq/L.

In July 2006 the International Marathon Medical Directors Association (www.aimsworldrunning.org) published a position statement “Update Fluid Recommendation”. The IMMDA presents 6 practical recommendations one of which is drinking to thirst will protect the athlete from hazards of both over and under drinking.

This recommendation of “drinking to thirst” is contrary to the common interpretation of the 1996 ACSM guidelines that drinking according to the dictates of thirst leads to “dehydration”, which impairs exercise performance and promotes risk of ill health. Frequently, I have heard the recommendation that you should start drinking early in the race even though you are not thirsty; because in order to stay hydrated you need to drink early and often. Dr. Tim Noakes argues that this practice increases the risk of drinking too much water and slower runners are at greater risk for hyponataemia, as they have more time to consume more water
(2007).

In Feb 2007 the ACSM published a replacement position stand on Exercise and Fluid Replacement. The goal of drinking during exercise is to prevent excessive (>2% body weight loss from water deficit) dehydration and excessive changes in electrolyte balance to avert compromised performance. The ACSM no longer recommends that during exercise athletes should start drinking early and at regular intervals in an attempt to consume fluids at a rate sufficient to replace all the water lost through sweating (i.e. body weight loss), or consume the maximal amount that can be tolerated. The 2007 guidelines recognize that drinking too much
fluid can also be dangerous. Athletes should weigh themselves before running and write the results on their race bibs. If anything goes wrong, emergency workers can use the weight information to tell if the patient had consumed too too little or too much water. The ACSM cites data water quenches the sensation of thirst before body fluid replacement is achieved, so thirst should not be the only determinant of how much fluid is consumed.

Dr T Noakes critics the 2007 ACSM position stand on Fluid Replacement relative to using body weight as a measure of dehydration. Dr. Noakes suggest body weight is not an accurate measure of body fluid and electrolyte volume during exercise. He suggest that the controller of the balance between body fluid and electrolytes particularly sodium is the thirst mechanism. Dr. Noakes has concluded there is no conclusive evidence that athletes who drink sparingly during exercise develop specific medical conditions and the ability to sweat profusely while exercising in the heat is on of the most important determents of human evolution. Research by S Schwellnus (2007) found no relationship between dehydration and cramping. During his study athletes measured their levels of electrolytes, body weight changes, and found those who cramped were no different from those who did not cramp.
He suggests cramping is likely related to meuromuscular control at the spinal cord level in response to fatiguing exercise.

The bottom line according to Dr. Noakes is drink according to the dictates of your thirst during exercise, and do not ignore thirst. This approach works for every creature on planet earth even the slower runners. According to Dr. Noakes when athletes drink according to thirst, the risk that they will over drink is minimized, and there is no evidence that they are at any significant disadvantage from the 3-5% level of dehydration that develop as a result.

The ACSM and the IMMDA disagree on whether thirst should be the guide regarding fluid replacement, but they agree that considerable variability exists among individuals, and blanket advice to widely variable population of individuals seeking simple answers is out of place. Athletes should be encouraged to explore, understand, and be flexible to their own needs. Look for multiple signs suggesting dehydration including thirst, body weight, volume and color of urine, and rectal body temperature.

SPORTS AND HYDRATION

Healthy Hydration for Physical Activity

When we exercise, our muscles produce heat that needs to be evacuated to maintain body temperature.
Water acts as a carrier of heat through blood, and as a refrigerant by removing excess heat via sweat evaporation on the skin.1

Observations of sweat rates in various sports have shown significant variation in mean sweat rates
(from 0.29 to 2.37 L/h), depending on the type and intensity (training or competition) of the activity.
For example, during one hour in warm weather, a trained male adult loses approximately 2:

  • Swimming: 0.4 L
  • Soccer: 1.5 L
  • Tennis: 1.6 L (during a competition)
  • Cross-country running: 1.8 L
Figures for a female adult will be slightly lower.

Staying well hydrated: before, during and after exercise

The amount of sweat produced increases with the intensity of the exercise, but also with the temperature and humidity of the ambient environment.
Physical activity therefore results in increased water requirements that parallel sweat losses. If these hydration needs for exercise are not met, the body can enter a state of dehydration.

Dehydration during exercise is recognized as having a detrimental effect. Indeed, dehydration has been shown to increase both heart rate and body temperature3. For example, when plasma volume is reduced, the heart has to work faster to maintain delivery of oxygen and nutrients to the muscles.

Numerous studies, reviewed in the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM),2 show that dehydration increases physiologic strain and perceived effort to perform the same exercise task, and that warm-hot weather increases this phenomenon. The ACSM also considers that dehydration above 2% of the body mass can degrade aerobic exercise performance, and therefore endurance performance.

This is why people are advised not only to ensure proper hydration during exercise, but also before and after, in order to match the water losses, without waiting for thirst to appear.2 For exercise lasting less than one hour, water is sufficient to cover the body’s needs.1

The American Academy of Pediatrics reminds parents and caregivers that “Water is generally the appropriate first choice for hydration before, during, and after most exercise regimens”.5

TFT Algorithm For Physical Pain

PHYSICAL PAIN ALGORITHM

 1. Tune the Thought Field -- that is, intentionally think about the physical pain you're experiencing.

2. Using the Subjective Units of Distress (SUD) scale, rate your most intense pain possible. On this scale, 10 is the worst you could possibly feel, and 1 indicates absolutely no trace of pain. Write down the SUD rating before you continue to the next step.

3. Locate the gamut spot on the back of the hand, about an inch below the raised knuckles of the ring finger and little finger when making a fist. tap this gamut spot fifty(50) times, using two fingers of the opposite hand.

4. Tap the "collarbone point." To locate it, take two fingers of either hand and run them down the center of the throat to the top of the center collarbone notch. This is approximately even with the spot where a man would knot his tie. From there, move straight down an additional inch. Then move to the right one inch. Tap this point five times.

5. Take a second SUD rating and write it down. If the SUD has decreased 2 or more points (which will be the case for most people), then continue with step 6 below. If there was no change, however, or if the change in the SUD was only 1 point, perform the correction for a psychological reversal, using the technique described in this post (CLICK HERE). Then repeat steps 1 through 5.

6. Perform the nine-gamut treatments. Locate the gamut spot on the back of the hand, about an inch below the raised knuckles of the ring finger and little finger when making a fist. Begin tapping the gamut spot with two fingers of the opposite hand, about three to five times per second, and continue tapping while performing all nine steps below ( tap five or six times for each of the nine-gamut positions). It is very important to tap the gamut spot throughout all nine of these gamut treatments:

G1~ Open the eyes.

G2~ Close the eyes.

G3~ Open the eyes and point eyeball down and to the left.

G4~ Point the eyeballs down and to the right.

G5~ Whirl the eyeballs around in a circle in one direction (clockwise).

G6~ Whirl the eyeballs around in the opposite direction (counter clockwise).

G7~ Hum a few bars of any tune aloud (more than a single note;
rest the eyes).

G8~ Count aloud from one to five.

G9~ Hum the tune again.

7. Tap the gamut spot five times again.

8. Tap the collarbone point five times again.

9. Take still another SUD rating and write it down. If it has declined to 1 (which will happen with most people), move to step 10 below. But if it has decreased significantly yet is still not a 1, perform the MINI PR correction as described below, and then repeat the treatment steps above.

10. To ensure that the improvements you've made are complete, perform the floor-to-ceiling eye roll (when the SUD is 2 or lower): Hold the head level and move your eyes down. Then begin tapping the gamut point as you move your eyes upward.

MINI PR

A related procedure, called a mini psychological reversal correction, can be used when you decrease your SUD to a 3 or 4 but can't seem to get it any lower.  In other words, you've achieved substantial improvement, but you can't get to the finish line.  A block exists that is keeping you from reducing the SUD any further

In the algorithm for your particular emotional problem, you'll be instructed on whether and when to use this technique. here is the  procedure to follow:
~ Find the PR spot mentioned above,  located on the outside edge of the  hand, between the wrist and the  base of the little finger.

~ Tap about fifteen (15) times with two fingers of the opposite hand.
Image result for tapping PR spot
   Image for tapping PR spot
As long as a psychological reversal persists, TFT ( or any other treatment) won't be able to get the SUD to a 1.  The PR or mini PR correction will open the door that allows TFT to eradicate your problem.

PHYSICAL PAIN
Millions of people live with physical pain every day of their lives. They have splitting and stabbing headaches. or their neck is hot and burning. Their back is sore and stinging. Their knee is throbbing.

Physical pain can crush the body and spirit, and at its worst, it can destroy any semblance of a normal life. In desperation, people become addicted to painkilling drugs or submit to nerve blocks or risky surgery, often with little to show for it at the end of the day except the same excruciating pain they began with. just as mainstream psychotherapy has a weak track record in healing emotional pain, traditional medicine fares poorly in permanently resolving headaches, back pain, and even the pain of metastasized cancer.

But the Thought Field Therapy (TFT) can help. the physical pain algorithm above works for the majority of people, and does so rapidly and safely. I have seen it ease or eliminate headaches, back pain, and many other types of discomfort.

Tapping The Healer Within

PUTTING THE ALGORITHMS TO WORK

WE'VE REACHED THE "hands-on" portion of the program. it's finally time to put the algorithms to work -- to use the "recipes" that can produce rapid and lasting healing of your emotional distress, and even your physical discomfort. Whether you've been struggling with this problem for weeks or for most of your lifetime, these algorithms have the power to eradicate it in minutes. like a skilled surgeon with steady hands and a fine-tuned scalpel, you can use the algorithms to excise the distress that has disrupted your life for so long.

Each algorithm is composed of a series of tapping maneuvers and other steps that need to be followed carefully. The recipe for every problem is unique and has been carefully formulated and tested for that specific condition.  Though many of the same tapping maneuvers appear in one algorithm after another, the selection and sequence of steps vary from one recipe to the next. the algorithm for ANXIETY is different from the one for ANGER; the algorithm for DEPRESSION is different from the one for OBSSESION.

Turn to the particular disorder you'd like to treat, and before actually using the algorithm, read through it from beginning to end. Become completely familiar with it. If you'd like, isolate each step and try it out. Tap at the edge of the eyebrow. Tap under the eye. Find the "collarbone point" and practice tapping it. once you become comfortable with each step, you're ready to implement the entire algorithm.

To enjoy the recipe's full benefits,

Frequently Asked Questions about Thought Field Therapy (TFT).

The healing world of Callahan Techniques® and Thought Field Therapy® spawned the beginnings of many therapies, often collectively called Energy Psychology.

TFT is often confused with Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT), and other tapping therapies, as they make the promise of a simplified version of Roger Callahan's tapping therapy... unfortunately, we have learned that there are different sequences for differing problems, as the bodies energy field reacts to TFT algorithms in different ways.

Most tapping techniques have a basis in the original form of Thought Field Therapy, and together have all performed a tremendous service to improve the effectiveness of alternative healing and the field of psychology.
TFT is world-renowned as the authoritive source of tapping therapy - we are active in countries such as Rwanda and also are working with soldiers returning home from battle.

We offer programs for those wanting to treat themselves, and we also offer programs that will benefit you as a TFT practitioner. Thought Field Therapy has created a number of new and ground-breaking training programs to help other meridian energy tapping practitioners make the transition To TFT.

As many practicing and receiving benefit from these newer therapies may not be aware of the history and the underpinnings of their beginnings, we have created this brief history and time-line guide of how Dr. Roger Callahan Founded TFT Meridian Energy Tapping.

In this guide, there is a short list of some of the numerous versions of energy therapies, having their beginnings in TFT. The very fact that there are so many versions, varieties and methods and that they are all effective to varying degrees, and have helped over a million people worldwide, is testament to the power of the original, Thought Field Therapy (TFT).
A therapy, which can be copied, tweaked, and adjusted by different practitioners all over the world, with each version remaining effective, and doing no harm, demonstrates the true underlying power and simplicity
While all of the various methods and ideas have developed over the years, TFT has also been a dynamic, constantly changing and improving modality. We welcome all EFT practitioners and those of the various energy based therapies into our TFT family and friends.
We have provided a simple time line and history of development of TFT for your understanding, and as a way to ease TFT into your knowledge and practice of meridian energy tapping.
Together we can be a much stronger force
for change and improvement in the world of healing.
1.What is Thought Field Therapy® (TFT)?
 Tapping Into Nature's Healing System
Over 20 Years in Development - Thought Field
Therapy (TFT) is the procedure that provides a
code to nature's healing system, when applied
to problems, addresses their fundamental
causes, balancing the body's energy system and
allowing you to eliminate most negative
emotions within minutes.

This Code is elicited through TFT's unique
assessment procedures.

"When I observe a number of suffering patients
who did not respond to our usual treatment
modalities, suddenly get better after TFT
algorithms are given,I don't need a double-blind
controlled study to tell me the value of TFT"
...James McKoy, MD Chief, Pain Clinic, Chief
Rheumatology Service Assistant Chief,
Neuroscience Department, Kaiser Permanente,
Hawaii region

"The power and beauty of TFT VT is truly
awesome. Even though I have experienced it
time and again I am constantly amazed at the
healing that takes place through TFT in areas
that other therapies could hardly effect at all,
much less with the speed and thoroughness of
TFT. I believe that nothing so powerful,
effective, predictable, and reproducible has ever
taken place in healing and self-development."
....Mary L. Cowley, PhD, TFT VT Thought Field
Therapy by Voice Carlsbad, CA
2.Why should I want to learn TFT?

  • Brief self-help with rapid, measurable
results.
  • High success with most problems or
negative emotions.
  • Works with any age from very young
children to the elderly.
  • Effective help without the pain or
retraumatization or reliving of past problems
3.Who can use and learn TFT?
 Parents • Counselors • Clergy • Educators •
Employers • Business executives • Policemen
& Firemen • Massage Therapists •
Healthcare professionals • Social Workers •
Traders/Brokers • And anyone in a high stress
environment
4.What do professionals say about TFT?
"It is beyond amazing. I have never seen any
treatment so powerful." ...Dr. Martin Swartz,
Research Associate Professor,

New York University Medical School.

"I have received ongoing feedback from many of
the doctors and psychologists who have
incorporated your techniques into their practice,
and comments like 'extraordinary success with
the Callahan Techniques in my most chronic,
difficult-to-treat cases...' " ... Dr. Lee Pulos,
President, Canadian Society of Clinical

Hypnosis.

"One of the most effective and most powerful
for quick clinical relief and help - and the idea
of psychological reversal is one of the major
discoveries in psychology?"
.
..Gary Emery, Ph.D.,
Co-author, "Anxiety Disorders and Phobias:

A Cognitive Perspective"

"TFT is extraordinarily powerful, in that clients
receive nearly immediate relief from their
suffering and the treatment appears to be
permanent... it does not require the client to
talk about their troubles, something that often
causes more emotional pain and discourages
many from seeking treatment... it is extremely
efficient (fast and long lasting)."
...Charles Figley PhD,
Professor and Director, Psychosocial Stress

Research Program and Clinical Laboratory,
Florida State University.

"I asked my problem patients to try your
technique and in one week it has proven 100%
successful for those who have used it."
...David Kerchner,
Hollywood Weight Loss Centre, Ellwood,

Philadelphia, USA

"I have recommended and used Dr. Callahan's
Five Minute Phobia Cure in my Self-Esteem
seminars for many years. Now, his new Stop the
Nightmares of Trauma provides us with a
simple, self-help technique for past traumas.
This revolutionary approach brings us one
giant step closer to reducing the suffering of
trauma victims throughout the world."
...Jack Canfield, Co-Author,

"Chicken Soup for the Soul®" Series

"I find it exceedingly rapid and applicable to a
wide variety of patients."
...Dr. Patricia Carrington,
Adjunct Professor of Psychiatry,

Rutgers Medical School.

"If it had been a horse race, which the
investigators as well as the innovators were all
at pains to deny, the TFT contingent would
have won, hands down. Requiring virtually
nothing in the way of personal interaction,
TFT can bypass all that tedious therapeutic
business of joining, empathy, history taking,
reprocessing and the like, and zero in on the
problem immediately at hand. With
10-minute treatments not at all unusual?"
...Mary Sykes Wylie, Ph.D.,
Senior Editor, "The Family Therapy

Networker, July/Aug, 1996."

"For 25 years I have treated American war
veterans suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress
Disorder. I have witnessed gallant efforts to
keep a job, be members of a family, overcome
homelessness and resist the temptation of
suicide... I am very grateful to Dr. Callahan
for his discovery of Thought Field Therapy.
For too long a time, my patients and I have
yearned for something like this. In my opinion,
this gentle action technique is easily the best
approach to thorough and enduring relief from
this crippling psychological disorder."
...Carl Johnson, PhD,
Diplomate in Clinical Psychology, American

Board of Professional Psychology,
Program for Homeless Veterans, Martinsburg,

West Virginia

"I have been trained in a traditional medical,
psychiatric, psychoanalytic and psycho
pharmacological model and I can state clearly -
If I had only one therapy to use it would be
Callahan Techniques® Thought Field Therapy.
It's the best therapy in history!"
...Luanne Ruona, MD, Director,

Center for Holistic Therapy,
Washington, DC and Alexandria, VA

"This (training) was a pinnacle for me. It
expanded, reviewed and integrated what I had
already learned and provided many new things
for me to learn"
...Rita Weinberg, PhD,

traumatic stress reduction; IT SAVES LIVES.
I have used TFT to intervene with a suicidal
client and it worked. Thank you Dr. Callahan
for sharing this with the world."
...Bruce Ramsay, CTR, CISM,

Program Director, First Nations?
Emergency Services Society of B.C.

"What's fascinating about TFT is it's quick,
painless and its success rate is almost
unbelievable... anywhere from 80-97%...which
is really unheard of in the field of mental
health in any type of treatment over this
whole century."
...Shad Meshad, President,
National Veterans Foundation and Founder /

Author of the National Veterans
Centre Programme, USA

"Using your technique I was able to help, in
minutes, 10 nervous executives speak...
(in public)...with no trace of their former fear."
Dr. Christopher Hegarty,
Renowned and Award-winning

Speaker / Trainer.

"Here we have patients and family members
going through acute and chronic medical,
surgical and psychiatric problems. I am using
Callahan Techniques on a daily basis for rapid
treatment of trauma of various kinds. These
rapid treatments are far superior to traditional
crisis intervention techniques in that the client/
patient receives amelioration of the problem in
minutes rather than days, weeks or months."
 ... Dr. M. Marie Green,
Clinical Social Worker,

McKay-Dee Hospital, Ogden,
Utah, USA.

assessment procedures for helping with more
difficult and varying problems. They teach the
very same assessment procedures that were
used to identify the common algorithms and
allow you to work more effectively on even
difficult and complex problems.

"Conventional psychotherapy is like carpet

Tapping the Healer

Within

Tapping the Healer Within is a good book, and
Roger Callahan is an excellent writer. However
TFT as taught in the book has been far
superceded by EFT.

Thought Field Therapy is the technique that
Callahan invented and teaches in Tapping the
Healer Within, and it is way more complicated
than Emotional Freedom Technique as taught on
this website. Both techniques are effective to an
equal degree.  For practical use of Tapping, you
are far better off reading Tap Yourself Free. It
will give you the understanding of your
emotional system and your negative feelings and
beliefs that you need to use Tapping in your daily
life.  It’s difficult to learn the Tapping sequence
from any book, although Tapping the Healer
Within contains great diagrams and clear
instructions. It’s much easier to learn from a
video though - you can start tapping right away
with the videos on this site.   There is no benefit
to learning TFT when you can learn EFT. You
can use them both on the same problems and
they tend to have the same level of effectiveness.
However, Tapping the Healer Within gives you a
great understanding of the emotional system and
the way energy techniques such as EFT and TFT
release trapped energy.  Thought Field Therapy
combines acupuncture points from Oriental
Medicine with Body Centered Psychotherapy,all
of which is nicely explained in Tapping the
Healer Within.  Learning Tapping from a book
like Tapping the Healer Within is not the easiest
way, it is far better to have someone guide you
through it. Even the most experienced healers
can have difficulty treating themselves, and see
other healers for precisely this reason. When you
are starting out it can be particularly difficult.
The next best thing from seeing someone in
private is to use video tutorials such as the ones
on this site.  The difference between EFT and
TFT as taught in Tapping the Healer Within is
that for TFT there are many different ‘recipes’
for tapping procedures. EFT uses the same
tapping procedure each time and is just as
effective. All that is needed is to direct the
mind’s attention by verbalising the problem.
Learning particular recipes such as those in
Tapping the Healer Within for each different
problem is unnecessary. It also seems doubtful that a particular problem would have the same tapping sequence
for everyone. People’s energy systems are as
diverse as people themselves.  Overall I would
recommend Tapping the Healer Within if you
really want a thorough understanding of your
energy system, although there are certainly better
books to start with. As a practical guide Tap
Yourself Free is a lot better to get started with.

What is EFT? - Theory, Science and Uses

A Refreshing New Use of An Established Process.
It Often Works Where Nothing Else Will.

First, if you haven't seen our EFT intro video, please view it now.  It sets the stage regarding your EFT possibilities.

Note: Over the years, my original term of EFT has also become known as Tapping.  Accordingly, the terms “EFT”, “Tapping” and “EFT Tapping” are used interchangeably herein.

Welcome

Emotional Freedom Techniques, or EFT (often known as Tapping or EFT Tapping), is a universal healing tool that can provide impressive results for physical, emotional, and performance issues. EFT operates on the premise that no matter what part of your life needs improvement, there are unresolved emotional issues in the way. Even for physical issues, chronic pain, or diagnosed conditions, it is common knowledge that any kind of emotional stress can impede the natural healing potential of the human body.

In many cases, EFT can be applied directly to physical symptoms for relief without exploring any emotional contributors. However, for the most powerful, longest lasting results with EFT, we do expect to identify and target related emotional issues.

The EFT premise also includes the understanding that the more unresolved emotional issues you can clear, the more peace and emotional freedom you will have in your life. The Personal Peace Procedure (discussed later) is the tool you need to get there ... limiting beliefs can vanish, personal performance can soar, relationships can thrive, and vibrant physical health can be yours. If we’re being realistic, everyone on this planet has at least a few emotional issues holding them back from pure, limitless happiness.

With that in mind, EFT can be an ongoing process that we use to clear out the old traumas, and welcome any new challenges with a healthy, productive attitude. The core EFT instruction in this Tutorial will start with the basic tapping process and take you all the way to the Personal Peace Procedure. We welcome anyone and everyone to use these tools for as much peace and freedom as they can imagine.

EFT Tapping Often Works Where Nothing Else Will

EFT breathes fresh air into the healing process by borrowing from the Chinese meridian system. While acupuncture, acupressure and the like have been primarily focused on physical ailments, EFT stands back from this ancient process and points it also at emotional issues. These, in turn, often provide benefits for performance and physical issues.

EFT combines the physical benefits of acupuncture with the cognitive benefits of conventional therapy for a much faster, more complete treatment of emotional issues, and the physical and performance issues that often result.

While related to acupuncture, EFT does not use needles. Instead, we use a simple two pronged process wherein we (1) mentally "tune in" to specific issues while (2) stimulating certain meridian points on the body by tapping on them with our fingertips. Properly done, EFT appears to balance disturbances in the meridian system and thus often reduces the conventional therapy procedures from months or years down to minutes or hours. The basic Tapping process is easy to learn, can be done anywhere, and can be used to provide impressive do-it-yourself results.

Further, the basic method is very portable and learnable by almost everyone. No special education is required. Even children have produced beginner's benefits with it. The foundational process within EFT is known as The EFT Tapping Basic Recipe and is detailed for you in the next article: How to do the EFT Tapping Basics - The Basic Recipe.  Also see What can I expect from EFT Tapping?

The Body's Energy System – The Foundation of EFT Tapping

About 5,000 years ago, the Chinese discovered a complex system of energy circuits that run throughout the body. These energy circuits ... or meridians as they are called ... are the centerpiece of Eastern health practices and form the basis for modern day acupuncture, acupressure and a wide variety of other healing techniques.

This energy courses through the body and is invisible to the eye. By analogy, you do not see the energy flowing through a TV set either. You know it is there, however, by its effects. The sounds and pictures are your ever present evidence that the energy flow exists.

In the same way, EFT gives you striking evidence that unique energy flows within your meridians because it provides the effects that let you know it is there. By simply Tapping near the end points of your energy meridians you can experience some profound changes in your emotional and physical health. That's what EFT is all about.  It is the central concept in the What is EFT Tapping question.

Western medical science tends to focus on the chemical nature of the body and has not paid much attention to these subtle, but powerful, energy flows until recent years. However, they do exist and are attracting an expanding group of researchers.

Scientific Validation of EFT

EFT's foundation comes from a common sense blend of Acupuncture and Mind-Body Medicine, both of which have decades of scientific studies supporting them. Their effectiveness has been so profound that prestigious institutions such as Stanford, Harvard and many other universities, clinics and hospitals have chosen to use and/or study them. Just do an internet search for terms such as "Mind Body Research" and "Acupuncture Research" and you will be exposed to the huge warehouse of scientific studies that validate the EFT Tapping underpinnings.

Further, many peer reviewed EFT Tapping studies have been completed.  Some of these studies are based on a longer form Tapping protocol that was popular prior to this Tutorial.  This Tutorial has divided that protocol into easy to use parts but, overall, there is no substantive change in it.  One need only put the parts back together to arrive at the original protocol used in previous research.  Thus all research using the previous protocol is still valid even though that protocol reflects "Old EFT."  Future research, however, should be based on the protocols advanced in this Tutorial.  You may wish to read this excellent article summarizing the research on EFT and similar methods written by David Feinstein, PhD.

To me, however, the real proof of EFT's power is not to be found in the laboratory. Rather, the true evidence lies in how well it works for you. Accordingly, this Tutorial is designed so you can put this Tapping process through its paces yourself and come to your own conclusions. Obviously, the more skillful you become at EFT the better will be your results and the more thorough will be your understanding of "What is EFT Tapping."

The Discovery Statement

One of the beautiful features of EFT is that its mechanism can be elegantly stated in one sentence. We call it The Discovery Statement and here it is.

Now, let's examine The Discovery Statement in more detail. First, notice what it does not say. It does not say that a negative emotion is caused by the memory of a past traumatic experience. This is important to recognize because that presumed connection of traumatic memories to negative emotions is a mainstay in conventional psychotherapy.

In some circles, it is the accepted practice to "treat the memory" and, in the process, ask the client to repeatedly relive some emotionally painful event. EFT, by contrast, respects the memory but addresses what I believe is the true cause ... a disruption in the body's energy system.

People have called me from all over the world for help over the telephone. Without my asking, they usually start telling me in detail about their past traumas. That's because they mistakenly believe I need all these details to help them. To them, these memories are the cause of their problems.

I care deeply about helping people who needlessly carry around all these emotionally charged memories. That's why I created this easy to use Tapping process. But it always seems strange to people when I tell them they don't need to painfully relive all those horrid details for EFT Tapping to help them. These memories may contribute to an unwanted emotion (you'll see how later), but they are not the direct cause. Accordingly, we don't need to spend time painfully dwelling on them. It is superfluous, if not damaging, to do so.

Thus there is relatively little emotional suffering involved with EFT Tapping. It is comparatively painless (see What can I expect from EFT Tapping? for possible exceptions). You will be asked to briefly recall your problem (there may be some discomfort in that), but that is all. There is no need to relive the pain. In fact, with properly done Tapping, generating prolonged emotional discomfort is frowned upon. This is but one example of where EFT Tapping is a radical departure from conventional methods.

zzzzzzzz: the sound of static on the TV

As a further aid to your learning, it might help if you compare the energy flow in your body to that of a TV set. As long as the electricity flows through your TV normally, the sound and picture are both clear. But what would happen if you took off the back of the TV set and carelessly probed through its complicated electronics with a metal screwdriver?" You would, quite obviously, disrupt or reroute the flow of electricity and an electric short circuit, or "zzzzzt", would occur inside. The picture and sound would become erratic and the TV would exhibit its version of a "negative emotion."

In the same manner, when our energy systems become imbalanced, we have an electrical "zzzzzt" effect going on inside. Straighten out this "zzzzzt" by properly performed Tapping and the negative emotion goes away. It's that simple. I'm well aware of how strange this may sound and how difficult it can be to believe ... at least at first. I wouldn't believe it myself if I hadn't seen so many marvelous changes in people after applying these techniques.

The Intermediate Step ... The Missing Piece

Once you accept it, though .... once you "let it in".... its logic becomes undeniable and you begin to see all the weaknesses in other methods.

For example, the "treat the memory" method mentioned above becomes glaringly erroneous in the light of these discoveries. It is assumed, in that method, that the past traumatic memory is the direct cause of the emotional upset in someone. It is not. There is an intermediate step ... a missing piece ... between the memory and the emotional upset. And that intermediate step, of course, is the disruption in the body's energy system. It is that disruption, the "zzzzzt", that is the direct cause of the emotional upset. This is portrayed graphically below.
Please note that if step 2 (the intermediate step) does not occur then step 3 is impossible. In other words, if the memory does not cause a disruption in the body's energy system then the negative emotion cannot occur. That is why some people are bothered by certain memories and others are not. The difference is that some people have a tendency for their energy systems to become imbalanced under such memories, while others do not.

With this in mind, it is easy to see how the "treat the memory" method misses the mark. It addresses step 1 and ignores step 2.

This is why some people tend to get worse when conventional psychotherapy aims for the memory and not its cause (the energy disruption). Addressing step 1 by requiring someone to vividly relive a distressing memory serves to induce more disruption in the energy system (more zzzzzts). And that means more pain, not less. It can, and often does, aggravate the problem. If step 2 was addressed instead of step 1, then there would be relatively little pain. The energy system would be balanced (by appropriate Tapping) and internal calm would replace the negative emotion. The result would be rapid relief because the true cause was being addressed. This happens repeatedly with EFT Tapping.

In the following video I combine The Discovery Statement with a discussion of the Intermediate Step.  It adds an extra dimension to these important topics.

One Cause ... Thus You Only Need One Method

Now back again to the "Discovery Statement." Please notice that it is all inclusive. It says, "The cause of ALL negative emotions is a disruption in the body's energy system." This includes fears, phobias, anger, grief, anxiety, depression, traumatic memories, PTSD, worry, guilt and all limiting emotions in sports, business and the performing arts. That's a comprehensive list and covers just about every restrictive emotion we can experience.

Differently stated, this means that all these negative emotions have the same cause....an electrical "zzzzzt" in the body. It also means...

...that they can all be relieved in a similar manner.

Thus, grief has the same basic cause as trauma, guilt, fear and a baseball player's hitting slump. So the same general method can be used for all these problems. This "one cause" idea is also a blessing for mental health professionals. They are accustomed to an endless, ever changing number of explanations for the seemingly countless emotional concerns of their clients. To learn that there is only one cause greatly simplifies their efforts.

EFT Often Provides Impressive Physical Relief

The medical profession has long known that emotional issues can dramatically affect our body chemistry and that, in turn, can lead to everything from rashes and headaches to addictions, impaired immune systems and cancer. We see consistent evidence of this when we apply the Tapping process.  As guilt, anger, fear, trauma and the like become resolved, physical ailments often subside simultaneously. From time to time we also see physical symptoms fade by simply Tapping on the meridian system without directly aiming EFT at emotional contributors.  In this case, it appears that one of the contributors to the physical ailment may be strictly energetic and thus merely balancing the meridians can bring about symptom relief.  This brings us to another version of the Discovery Statement that says,

"EFT can assist physical healing by resolving
underlying energetic or emotional contributors."

This deepens our probe into What is EFT Tapping and to illustrate this, here is a video wherein I discuss the emotional facet of this concept and then follow it up with an actual case with LaVonne and her serious foot pain (neuropathy).  As you will see, aiming the Tapping directly at the pain went nowhere and thus there did not appear to be a strictly energetic contributor.  It was only after I addressed a handful of emotional issues (including guilt over the death of her husband via a motorcycle accident) that she achieved major improvement.  Also note that, although I am using advanced language approaches here (to be explored in future articles), we are clearly illustrating the fundamental principle of achieving physical relief by moving through emotional doors.

It's often a jaw dropping experience to witness these "impossible" recoveries and I invite progressive physicians to explore EFT Tapping as a major healing tool. Many physicians are integrating Tapping into their medical practices and one of those is Eric Robins, MD. His views are given in the following video.
