the principal senses of all creatures

"Here is my list of the principal senses of all creatures:

The Radiation Senses

1.  Sight, which, I should think, would include seeing polarized light and seeing without eyes, such as the heliotropism or sun sense of plants.

2.  The sense of awareness of one’s own visibility or invisibility and the consequent competence to advertise or to camouflage via pigmentation control, luminescence, transparency, screening, behavior, etc.

3.  Sensitivity to radiation other than visible light, including radio waves, x-rays, gamma rays, etc., but omitting most of the temperature and electromagnetic senses.

4. Temperature sense, including ability to insulate, hibernate, estivate, etc. This sense is known to have its own separate nerve networks.

5.  Electromagnetic sense, which includes the ability to generate current (as in the electric eel), awareness of magnetic polarity (possessed by many insects) and a general sensitivity to electromagnetic fields.

The Feeling Senses

6. Hearing, including sonar and the detection of infra- and ultrasonic frequencies beyond ears.

7. Awareness of pressure, particularly underground and underwater, as through the lateral line organ of fish, the earth tremor sense of burrowers, the barometric sense, etc.

8. Feel, particularly touch on the skin and the proprioceptive awareness of intra- and intermuscular motion, tickling, vibration sense (such as the spider feels), cognition of heartbeat, blood circulation, breathing, etc.

9. The sense of weight and balance.

10. Space or proximity sense.

11. Coriolis sense, or awareness of effects of the rotation of the earth.

The Chemical Senses

12. Smell, with and beyond the nose.

13. Taste, with and beyond the tongue or mouth.

14. Appetite, hunger and the urge to hunt, kill or otherwise obtain food.

15. Humidity sense, including thirst, evaporation control and the acumen to find water or evade a flood.

The Mental Senses

16. Pain: external, internal, mental or spiritual distress, or any combination of these, including the impulse and capacity to weep.

17. The sense of fear, the dread of injury or death, of attack by vicious enemies, of suffocation, falling, bleeding, disease and other dangers.

18. The procreative urge, which includes sex awareness, courting (perhaps involving love), mating, nesting, brooding, parturition, maternity, paternity and raising the young.

19. The sense of play, sport, humor, pleasure and laughter.

20. Time sense and, most specifically, the so-called biological clock.

21. Navigation sense, including the detailed awareness of land- and seascapes, of the positions of sun, moon and stars, of time, of electromagnetic fields, proximity to objects, probably Coriolis and other sensitivities still undefined.

22. Domineering and territorial sense, including the capacity to repel, intimidate or exploit other creatures by fighting, predation, parasitism, domestication or slavery.

23. Colonizing sense, including the receptive awareness of one's fellow creatures, of parasites, slaves, hosts, symbionts and congregating with them, sometimes to the degree of being absorbed into a super-organism.

24. Horticultural sense and the ability to cultivate crops, as is done by ants who grow fungus, or by fungus that farms algae.

25. Language and articulation sense, used to express feelings and convey information in every medium from the bees' dance to human literature.

26. Reasoning, including memory and the capacity for logic and science.

27. Intuition or subconscious deduction.

28. Esthetic sense, including creativity and appreciation of music, literature, drama, of graphic and other arts.

29. Psychic capacity, such as foreknowledge, clairvoyance, clairaudience, psychokinesis, astral projection and possibly certain animal instincts and plant sensitivities.

30. Hypnotic power: the capacity to hypnotize other creatures.

31. Relaxation and sleep, including dreaming, meditation, brainwave awareness and other less-than-conscious states of mind like pupation, which involves cocoon building, metamorphoses and, from some viewpoints, dying.

The Spiritual Sense

32.  Spiritual sense, including conscience, capacity for sublime love, ecstasy, a sense of sin, profound sorrow, sacrifice and, in rare cases, cosmic consciousness."

"Furthermore, the very notion that there are five senses is purely arbitrary (see Classen 1993; Geurts 2003). Why only five? If we wished to, it seems we could at least identify eight, and perhaps divide them into two categories. The taken-for-granted five senses belong to those sensory modes that provide information about the world external to the individual. Those are our exteroceptive senses: sight, hearing, taste, smell, and touch. It is easy enough to identify at least three more senses that provide information about the internal world of the human body, our interoceptive senses: the sense of pain (nociception), thirst, and hunger. Yet, eight is not nearly enough. What about our sense of our own internal body’s muscles and organs (proprioception)? What about the sensations that mediate between conditions in the external world and internal body, such as our sense of balance (equilibrioception), movement (kinesthesia), temperature (thermoception), or even our sense of time (at least in terms of polychronicity and monochronicity, if not more)? Now our list has grown from five senses to thirteen, and still I experience senses that are not clearly accounted for in these categories. After all, which category accounts for the sensual experience of orgasm? Assuming I can come up with an answer, which is doubtful, it is unlikely that we would agree—especially considering that even within the experiences of one individual, not all orgasms are the same. Or perhaps we could even suggest that to divide the senses into categories is itself an arbitrary act that reproduces our cultural codes. In fact, why divide at all “external” from “internal” senses? Is that not, after all, an exercise in atomism and individualism so typical of Western culture? And because most of our sensations, and thus our senses, depend so heavily on the language that we use to make sense of their operation (Geurts 2003), should we then not treat the senses in their own cultural contexts and within “their own foundational schemas through which the world is… sensed as a continuous whole” (Edwards, Gosden, and Phillips 2006:6)? And finally, are we even so sure that sensations can be so clearly separated from emotions, or even from the material things that are the object of sensations (see Geurts 2003)? What we do know for sure is that to think of the senses as only confined to five exteroceptive sensory modes is to grossly oversimplify human sensual experience, both within anyone culture and across cultures. Maybe that is the key point: modes of sensing inevitably blend and blur into one another, thus making their alleged boundaries fuzzy and indistinct in experience. It is this ecology of sensual relations that should be the focus of our attention (see Howes 2003; Ingold 2000)."

There's Only One Of Us

The World Within Our Senses (The Sensory World) insists that there are billions of us inhabiting this planet and all of us are unique.  Even identical twins look slightly different and vary in their beliefs, decisions, preferences and so on.  Even though we are learning that this is a mirage, it is so compelling that we must compensate for it in our daily lives.  Accordingly, almost every decision we make is influenced by how the world, and the imaginary people in it, will respond.

But our goal is to see beyond that.  We must recognize what Quantum Physics and countless people with spiritual experiences like mine are clearly telling us, i.e. that there is no separation and thus there is only one of us.  To do so, requires that we perceive ALL other people as joined with us in an ultra-loving state in The World Beyond Our Senses.  No differences whatsoever.  Love makes no distinctions.  As indicated in previous articles, this realization is likely to be a gradual process.

Now let's explore this Oneness notion and lay out some of its features:
  • If we are all One then, despite how it appears, everyone else is a mirror of you.
  • This includes those we label angelic as well as those we consider robbers, rapists, murderers and pedophiles. It includes our very best friends ... and ... our worst enemies.
  • Thus within our dream this kaleidoscope of "people features" represents our potential to both love and hate ... to nurture and reject ... to experience both peace and turmoil.
  • So when we come across people we don't like, we are actually experiencing reflections of things we don't like about ourselves.  It may not seem that way.  In fact, we may argue for an opposite conclusion.  But if we are all One then you ARE those people and they ARE you.  It may take some more convincing for this to sink in but, until it does, the denial of this form of Oneness is keeping us in that prison we call The Sensory World.
  • In The World Beyond Our Senses there is only One thing ... Love.  Everything else fades into nothingness because there is no "everything else."
Now here's a fascinating thought.

If those who irritate us are actually part of us then we MUST see beyond their "shortcomings" if we are to perceive ourselves as Love.  Spiritual Love is all encompassing.  There can be nothing else.  Thus if we see any part of us as even slightly offensive then we have denied the complete state of Love that is our reality.

This is where True Forgiveness comes in from a previous article.  We must learn that this Sensory World is nothing but a dream and the unloving behavior of everyone, including that of you, me and those who offend us, is but a fiction.  As we approach that realization, True Forgiveness becomes easier because, ultimately, there is nothing to forgive.  And if there is nothing to forgive then the slate is clean and we are left with a glorious state of Loving Oneness.  No resentments.  No judgments.  Just Love.

WE ARE One

THE POWER OF FEELINGS (the Secret)

THE POWER OF FEELINGS

Feeling is the secret.

I am a Feeling Being

From  the moment I am born, I am always feeling something, and so is every other person. I can stop my conscious thoughts when I'm sleeping, but I can never stop feeling, because to be alive is to feel life.  I am a feeling "being" to the core of I , and so it's no accident that every part of my human body is created so I can feel life!

I have the sense of sight, hearing, taste, smell, and touch, so that I can feel everything in life.  They are "feeling" senses, because they enable me to feel what I see, feel what I hear, feel what I taste, feel what I smell and touch.  My entire body is covered with a fine layer of skin, which is a feeling organ, my largest organ, so I can feel everything.

How I feel in any one moment is more important than anything else, because how i feel right now is creating my life.

My Feelings Are The Fuel

My thoughts and words have no power at all in my life without my feelings.  I think so many thoughts in a day that don't amount to anything because many of my thoughts don't elicit a strong feeling within me. It's what I feel that matters!

Imagine my thoughts and words as being like a rocket ship , and my feelings as the fuel. A rocket ship is a stationary vehicle that can't do anything without fuel, because the fuel is the power that lifts the rocket ship. It's the same with my thoughts and words. My thoughts and words are vehicles that can't do anything without my feelings, because my feelings are the power of my thoughts and words!

If I think, " I can't stand my boss, " that thought is expressing a strong negative feeling I have about my boss, and I am giving out that negative feeling. As a consequence, my relationship with my boss will continue to get worse.

If I think, " I work with some fabulous people in my job, " these words are expressing the positive feeling I have about the people I work with and I am giving out that positive feeling. As a consequence, my relationships with my work colleagues will continue to get better.

The emotions must be called upon to give feeling to the thought so it will take form.

Good and Bad Feelings

Like everything else in life, my feelings can be either positive or negative, I   have good feelings or bad feelings.  And good feelings come from love! And all negative feelings come from a lack of love. The better I feel, like when I feel joyful, the more love I give out. And the more love I give, the more I receive.

The worse I feel, like when I feel despair, the more negativity I give out.  And the more negativity I give, the more negativity I receive back in life. The reason I feel so bad with negative feelings is because love is the positive force of life, and negative feelings don't have much love in them!

The better I feel, the better life gets.

love gratitude joy passion excitement enthusiasm hope satisfaction

When i feel good, my thoughts are automatically good too. i cannot feel good and have negative thoughts at the same time! Like wise it 's impossible for me to feel bad and have good thoughts at the same time.

boredom irritation disappointment worry criticism anger hate envy guilt despair fear

How I feel in an exact reflection, a precise measure to the finest degree, of what I am giving out in any moment. When I feel good, I don't have to be concerned about anything else because my thoughts, words, and actions will be good. Simply by feeling good I am guaranteed to be giving love, and all of that love must come back to me!

Change Your Mind, Change Your Life

We are aware that we have an inner mind which is called ‘subliminal’, ‘subjective’, ‘id’, or the subconscious mind. Freud was one of the first who gave an insight into the functioning of the subconscious mind, linking it with the causes of various diseases. Dr Carl Jung, the Swiss psychiatrist, termed the spiritual part of the mind as super conscious which was directly connected to God.

The subconscious mind works like a computer. The subconscious mind inspires, guides and is a permanent storehouse of memory. Our mind remembers everything we see, feel and experience but to recall is difficult. It is said that the subconscious mind has a memory capacity of 70-100 trillion images because all our feelings, emotions and experiences are stored within us as an image or sound. Just as a computer digitizes everything, our brain too does the same.

Subconscious mind never sleeps, never rests and is always on duty because it controls our heartbeat, circulation of blood, regulates digestion, assimilates, harmonizes and eliminates. It controls all the vital processes and functions of our body and knows the answers to all our problems.

The objective mind learns from observation, experience, education and its great function is reasoning, whereas the subjective mind performs its highest function when our objective senses are in abeyance.

Thoughts are conveyed via the conscious mind to the subconscious by impression made in the brain cells like an image or a movie. It uses every bit of information gathered in our life time and draws all the energy and wisdom within us to bring solutions to our problems.

Suppose one had been bitten by a dog at the age of 10, one will continue to be scared of dogs for the rest of his/her life viewing it from the childhood experience. This is because our subconscious mind remembers the incident. The conscious mind may forget but the subconscious mind remembers in greatest detail unless the event is cancelled from the memory.

Subconscious mind is always awake whether one is asleep, subconscious, under drug or alcohol effect or under coma. One of its functions is to guard us from harm and danger, yet ironically it also causes illness and even self destruction.

Subconscious mind is infinite intelligence possessed by man beyond time and space, and it helps us to receive new thoughts, ideas, business plans, discoveries, inventions, and knowledge of nature.

Subconscious mind has the habit of taking everything literally. If we keep on thinking that we will never succeed in a particular venture, it is most likely that we will not because we are blocking all positive energy flow into the subconscious. This results only in negative energy getting attracted. Therefore, it is we who are responsible for our successes and failures in life.

If we have conveyed an erroneous concept to our subconscious mind the method of overcoming it is by repetition of constructive and harmonious thoughts, positive attitude and visualizing a happy ending rather than negative thoughts and suggestions.

Doctors have recognized this fact about the mind hence, however complex the operation maybe, they keep on encouraging the patients just before an operation.

During the post operative period visitors are not allowed near the patient because any negative suggestion given will go deep into the patient’s subconscious mind thereby damaging whatever had been done to rectify the patient’s state of heal through the operation.

It is very important that we do not use negative suggestions with growing children as it gets rooted in their subconscious mind and reflects later in his/her behavior. This effect can be seen in their behavior, hostility, anxiety, lack of confidence, etc. Whatever one believes in one’s mind is what we experience physically in the outside world. We have two sides of life objective-subjective, visible-invisible, thought-manifestation.

Even prayers and beliefs are positive signals which we give to our subconscious mind as something acceptable and true. The thought which is acceptable as true will automatically execute itself. When we believe we are healthy we will remain healthy as our subconscious mind keeps our immune system in perfect condition.

BELIEVE:

To "believe" is to look beyond personal ethical, religious and moral values towards a larger social and community framework.

To believe is to explore the matrix of beliefs and convictions that dominates our imaginations and our thoughts.

Believing is going beyond the deeper insight of your thought. "I think..." is not the same as "I believe ..." The former is the perception within the five senses realm, while the latter is the experience within the spirit of the higher realm.

Beliefs are as a potent mix of pragmatism, capitalism, humanism, delusions and superstitions (until proven otherwise) that shape the way we think and interpret the real world, mould desires, guide actions and fortify the will in our being.

To believe is to render in our being signature sepia hues, alludes to the tenacity of people's beliefs in the face of change, and the contradictions that arise when other people chose to live out their beliefs.

To believe is to each with one's own unique aesthetic talents, perspectives and eye for detail. Beliefs give their personalised interpretations of various themes, each embodying its own spirit, attitude and sensibility.

Through the eloquence of one's images of beliefs and conceptual themes are meant to be evocative and expressive - "Explore", "Enrich", "Indulge", "Savour", etc, as 'trigger-words', they are intended to set off a chain of one's associations and references that would inspire the believers to think and believe about certain facets of reality and visually interpret our being through these beliefs or concepts.
