I lived in one of the poorest parts of
Bern. Total slum, dump, miserable
place. It looked like this
This is what slums look like in
Switzerland.
Edit: I had to tell my mom back home
where I was living etc. So when I
arrived I told her 'mum I have been
told am gonna live in a really poor
area but don't worry i can take care of
myself''. When I saw the 'poor area' I
really could not believe it. That
building you are seeing - I lived on
several floors over a period of two
years. It was really beautiful. And it
really was in the poorest part of Bern
believe it or not.
That building housed over 50 national
-ities. We shared kitchens and bath-
rooms. I made friends with people
from Siberia to Morocco, Britain to
Turkey, Canada to New Zealand, Cairo
to Capetown, China to Korea, Japan
to Singapore etc and everywhere in
between. We were all students,
curious, outward looking.
I wrote a fairly elaborate answer as to
why Switzerland is a good place. I
forgot to say that best of all that
building is called Tscharnergut. That
building is in Bern. Bern is in
Switzerland. Long may it prosper.
