Ways to Make Money While You Sleep

11 Ways to Make Money While You Sleep

Is your money making money while you sleep?
Does it sound too good to be true? Since we still live in the age of the interest, it’s not that difficult to earn extra money on the side.

With that in mind, here are ways that you can actually earn money while you sleep.

1. Start a blog.
Perhaps the most popular way to earn a passive income is by launching your own blog. It only takes a couple of minutes to setup and is cheap to start - just purchase your domain name and pay for hosting.

After that, start creating amazing content that people would be interested in reading or sharing. For example, if you’re an accountant that has helped small business owners with their taxes, then that could be your blog. I personally have my invoicing blog to help customers know everything there is to know about invoicing. This draws thousands of signups a month.

Make sure the topics you write about are popular. If you still love your pet rock, I doubt there would be enough people visiting your our site to monetize it. But, you never know.

Once you’ve gained a following, you can start making money from of your blog by:

Earning commissions as an affiliate. This is where you push other people’s products or services on your site. Make sure these products or services are relevant to your blog. For example, that accounting blog could become an affiliate for accounting or invoicing software. Once you find an affiliate partner you’ll be given a unique code so that whenever a visitor clicks that link on your site you’ll earn your commission.

Sell-advertising. If you’re site has the traffic to become an affiliate, then it may also be good enough for advertisers to purchase ads on your site. You may start off small, like making under $20 per ad. But, you may eventually be able to charge triple digits. Again, you site must be quality.

Find sponsors. This is slightly different than just selling ads on your site. Sponsorships may be a one-off piece of sponsored content or permanent logo embedded in your footer.

2. Sell your own information product.
If you’re knowledgeable in a certain area, then you can start creating products, such as eBooks or videos, and selling them on your blog. It may take a lot of work to create and market your products, but once all the leg work is over, you can just set back and collect the proceeds.

3. Earn royalties.
If you’re a talented musician, actor, or author, then you could earn royalties from your work. In other words people will pay you for using your work or creative assets.

If you aren’t talented enough, but still interested in earning royalties, then check out Royalty Exchange. It’s a marketplace where you can buy and sell royalties.

4. Create a membership community.
If you’ve proven yourself to be a authority figure, then you can create a membership community where you pay a monthly fee to receive additional high-quality content and information that’s not available to non-members.

One of my favorite examples is Timothy Sykes who makes more than $100,000 per month in passive income through his membership community which discusses how people can make money in trading penny stocks.

5. Install an autoresponder.
Another common online business model is using autoresponders to sell services, products or memberships. This is where people leave their email address on your site and then they’ll receive an automated email containing the link to download products or quality information you have to offer, as well as follow-up with a series of emails.

You’ll a need service like OptinMonster to make this possible. I also recommend you read this Quick Sprout guide to get started with autoresponders.

6. Flip websites.
If you’ve put in the time and effort in building a website and you have gained a lot of traffic, then you may be able to sell it to an interested party by listing on marketplaces like Flippa. I've bought and sold a lot of sites here and made a lot of money.

7. Sell physical products.
Just like with a blogging site, there are several ways to earn a passive income by selling physical products. Probably one of the best known ways is by selling your old junk on eBay. But even if you don’t have anything left to sell you can start drop shopping. This is where you sell products for a company on eBay or Amazon and they’ll take care of the rest - including shipping.

You can also launch your own eCommerce store by using Shopify. They literally give you everything you need to sell products online from a complete online shop to including buy buttons on your social media channels. 8. Invest in stocks or shares.
When you invest in stocks you become a stakeholder. That entitles you to a share of their profits. Investing in stocks has been a popular way to earn a passive income for years, and thanks to the internet, it’s easier than ever to research and invest in stocks on your own.

Keep in mind that the stocks you invest in can change throughout the various stages of life. For example, I look for investments that can benefit my daughter, such as a CA529 plan that will go towards her college tuition.

9. Peer-to-peer lending.
Companies like LendingClub, Propser, and Harmoney have created a new industry where anyone can become a lender. They will then match you with a consumer who either prefers or has trouble securing a loan from a bank. You can earn a higher interest rates on the loans you issued since you’re dealing directly with the borrower.

10. Rent out property.
Thanks to Airbnb, you can rent out your home while on vacation or your vacation home when not in use. You can also rent out your garage, parking space, or unused office space. It’s a nice supplemental income without really doing anything except placing an ad.

11. Hire a middleman.

This is also known as arbitrage and is basically where you have someone else do the work for you. For example, you could start a dog walking service or web design firm, but outsource the actual dog walking or coding to someone else. You’re much better doing anything except being the middleman who is in charge of marketing these services.

Skills You Can Learn Online for a Lucrative and Productive 2017
Expand your skill sets to be desirable in the job market.

I am so much in love with this era we are in -- an era where there is so much information online for self-development. A focused and determined person can learn many skills online and use them to diversify his or her income. With all the advanced, digital technology in this world, no one should give excuses of not having one or two skills to remain relevant and competitive.

In the days of yore, skill acquisition and dissemination were limited to certain geographical locations because of the low level of technological know-how. However, the advent of sophisticated technology -- which propelled the development of many apps, software and social media -- has made skills and knowledge easily disseminated and accessible.

There are countless websites readily available for you to acquire valuable skills and knowledge for free or with little fee for a productive 2017. These skills are:

1. Web design and development.
Web design and development is a highly sought-after skill. This is because we are in a digital transformation age where every business -- small, medium and large scale -- is extremely interested in showcasing their products and services to the world through their websites.

There are lots of sites that can teach you how to design and develop a website. By acquiring these skills, one is adequately positioned to scramble for millions of small, medium and large scale businesses who are contemplating launching or updating their websites.

2. Statistical data analysis.
Statistical data analysis is another vital skill that is in high demand by companies, entrepreneurs and students. The knowledge of Mini-tab,  Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) and E-view, just to name a few, makes a person highly desirable.

As a researcher, I have smiled all the way to the bank numerous times because I have some knowledge of statistical data analytical software. Most students in tertiary institutions need an expert data analyst -- companies too, especially when sophisticated software is needed for forecasting market shares, profit and other vital results that will aid managerial decision making.

You can learn these data analytical tools online, and consult an expert for clarification should you encounter some difficulties trying to grasp the calculations and interpretation of results.

3. Fashion designing.
Humans are always in need of food, clothes and shelter. These are three basic necessities of life. Both rich and poor are in need of clothes. In our contemporary world where fashion is always a trending issue, everybody wants to look classic and beautiful. This has made fashion designers kings and queens in their profession.

There are sites that can teach you how to draw fashion or make fashion sketches, and there are lots of online videos that can teach you make dresses. The beauty of having this skill lies in the way customers flock around fashion designers within few hours of setting up an office.

Fashion designing is synonymous to a football match; there is never a dull moment from the blast of the whistle. What do I mean? Even at the apprentice stage, customers are already flocking around you.

4. Make-up.
Believe it or not, the makeup business is growing at an incredible rate. There are lots of online videos that can teach you the rudiment of make up. An interview with Ifeoma Agu, the CEO of Ivonmelda Makeova, shocked me. She is an expert in hairstyle but felt she needed a makeup skill to enhance her business growth.

However, since she couldn’t afford the training fees, she decided to download lots of YouTube videos on makeup. The rest is history. She is one of the most sought-after makeup artists in her state as a result of her quality service delivery. Remember, she learned this skill for free. You can do same.

5. Business research.
Many people want to venture into business while those who are already in business are seeking other businesses to invest in. Many companies and investors are actually seeking well-researched business ideas to invest in.

As a business researcher, you can work on your own terms. You decide whether to sell your business ideas or become a partner in the businesses. At the end of the day, you will be surprised to see that you are a co-owner of chains of businesses.

Acquiring this skill is not as difficult as you think. I am saying this because most people are indifferent when it comes to research. All you need is to be patient, focus and determined. Read online articles and journals or watch videos on business research. It's also a good idea to consult an expert.

6. Own a blog.
You can actually learn how to create and run a blog online. By systematically following the step-by-step instructions on creating a blog, you'll be acquiring the skill to create more blogs for prospective clients. You can create a blog for your web design and development business, statistical data analysis, fashion designing, makeup and business research businesses.

Successful bloggers today started by simply creating a blog. The rest is history. You too can join the leagues of successful bloggers by meticulously following their footsteps.

{STEP 7} HELP YOUR COMMUNITY AND YOUR WORLD

{STEP 7}
HELP YOUR UNITYCOMMUNITY
AND YOUR WORLD

"I resolved to stop accumulating and begin the
infinitely more serious and difficult task of wise
distribution. "ANDREW CARNEGIE

IF THERE IS ONE CONCEPT that I must get
across to you it is that we are not alone. I don't
mean that little green men will land in your back-
yard, but that we as humans are connected to one
another - and what we do, think and feel affects
others. The seventh and final step to attracting
money is caring for your community and the
world as a whole.

I recently saw a show on the History Channel
that taught the history of the prison system. In the
late 1800s several large prisons were built in the
United States. The idea behind these prisons
wasn't reform; it was punishment. The prisoners
were kept in absolute solitude for years on end.
This drove legions of prisoners insane and lead to
solitary confinement being regarded as the
highest level of punishment.

Humans are social creatures and we can't exist
without contact with others. We are formed of the
same substance and we connect with one another
constantly. This affords us special opportunities.
As we learn and experience personal growth and
success, we can't help having an impact on every-
one around us. As one person is raised up, it
naturally lifts those around them, while providing
inspiration and hope.

When you view everyone as interconnected,
you'll realize that as you attract more money into
your life, you have the opportunity to effect
change in others. This is the seventh and final
step to attracting money - caring for your
community and the world. This works hand-
in-hand with giving - but it's not just about
money. It's about sharing your time, knowledge
and the lessons you've learned. Your success is a

Step 7: Help Your Community and Your World

great catalyst for doing good in the world. I'm
constantly looking for ways to give back, as well
as connect with others in meaningful ways. Due
to the time I spent homeless, I find homelessness
a crisis that's very close to my heart. I know it
can happen to anyone because I experienced it
firsthand. I wanted to do something to help. I
didn't want to simply offer food or clothing.
There are many charities that already meet those
needs. What I wanted to do was something that
could help people rescue themselves financially
by teaching them the techniques and skills to be
financially successful. It's called Operation YES
YES stands for Your Economic Salvation and is
a project that I'm working on with several
partners. Our mission is to end homelessness
and stop foreclosures.

The spark for Operation YES arrived like every
other inspiration I've had. Here's the story. I
heard about the economic stimulus package that
was offered several years ago. The government
decided to give out checks for $300 or $600 to
everyone. I heard this and thought, "That's a nice
thought but it's not going to make a real
difference." I figured that most people would buy
clothes, pay a bill or even pay down some debt.
But it wasn't going to change their lives or help
them become financially sound. As I was sitting
there, I thought, "You know, someone should do
something that really makes a difference." And
that's when it hit me like a bolt of lightning. Why
not me? I'm someone. I know enough about how
hard it is to start your life over from nothing.
Why couldn't I do something? So I did.

I figured that if I can teach people to raise their
self-esteem, then they'd have a real chance to
improve their life. Self-esteem is important when
you're on the bottom rung of life. You feel like a
failure. You feel like the lowest most insignificant
person alive. But you're not! It's just your
perception and mindset of the moment. Those who
are both broke and homeless suffer from a double
whammy. Operation YES teaches people how to
rebuild their self-esteem, so they have hope, can
feel worthwhile and that they can accomplish
positive things.

Once the homeless have recovered their self-esteem, I teach them
about the Law of Attraction and how they can attract anything they
want, including money and opportunities. Operation YES shows people
that this basic rule of psychology can change their lives permanently
and they won't have to worry about ending up on the streets again. I
tell them that what they focus on will increase or expand. This means
if they focus on being homeless and broke, they will get more of that

ATTRACT MONEY NOW!

in their lives. Unfortunately most people who live on the street only
focus on survival.

In order to see the opportunity to improve their lives, they must
think differently while focusing on a new and better life. They must
use the Law of Attraction and see their end result not the reality of
the moment. They have to stop and think about what they want. This
seems obvious to you and me, but how often do average people with
the house, dog, two cars and three kids stop to think about their lives?
We are creatures of habit with comfort zones. And we stay in them,
even if our comfort zones produce negative results. It can happen to
anyone.

The third level of Operation YES is to teach the homeless
entrepreneurial skills, much like the ones I've described in this book.
They can work for anyone from a bank president to a homeless person.
I'm living proof that these skills work. The ones who really understand
these principles, know they can generate income from pursuing things
they love rather than trying to eke out a living flipping burgers or
bagging groceries for someone else. They can create their own lives,
their own incomes, and never be dependent on anyone else ever
again.

I choose to help the planet by helping those in severe need.
You may choose a very different avenue but it's important that you
participate in your community and your world because whatever you
send out will come back to you. Emotions of goodwill and love for
people you don't know, will create tremendous flow of those same
emotions back to you. It's an awe-inspiring thing to see.

When you start to think bigger than yourself and what you want,
you release the limitations from your life that were blocking more
money from coming your way. You may be wondering why this has
any effect on money. Money is only one resource, as is love, caring
and abundance. It is our own human beliefs that separate the ideas of
human kindness and charity from money. Some think that money and
pure altruism cannot exist together. Not only do they exist together -
they're intertwined. The resource of money is not separate.

If you don't care about the people around you or treat them as if
they don't matter, you'll stop the flow of possibilities. This includes
your financial prosperity. Creating a vehicle for good that you feel
passionate about is the final step toward true prosperity.

Step 7: Help Your Community and Your World

YOU CONTROL THE UNIVERSE

I enjoyed a moderate amount of success before I completely
understood these principles. In fact, what really started my journey
of intense personal growth, and what motivates me to continue, is
my intrigue with how some people overcome negative and hopeless
situations to succeed and others don't. I've come all the way from the
streets to a really nice life, yet I couldn't really verbalize or explain
how it happened. This concerned me. I was afraid if I didn't know
what caused my success, I might lose it.

Of course I now know that the reason I succeeded without really
understanding the power of the Law of Attraction was that I figured
it out intuitively and used it unconsciously. I was determined to
try anything, and through trial and error, some things worked, so I
continued to do them. It wasn't until later I understood about asking,
or giving or any of the concepts that are an integral part of true and
lasting success.

I realized that when I focused on what I really want, I would
attract it. When I was stressed and worried about my situation, things
got worse. I'm not a fan of pain and suffering, so I went with what
worked. It wasn't until later that I realized the awesome power our
minds possess. It's a little scary that I just wielded that power willy-
nilly at one time. Now I'm aware and it's this awareness that allows
a higher form of knowledge to flow through me, allowing me to
accomplish things that I never could've on my own.

If we believe something to exist, so it is. Now those words really
underscore the power you have within you. You shape the world you
live in and have the power to reshape it. Yet so many people waste
this power on habitual thoughts and old beliefs that originated with
others. Changing your thoughts alone will not produce your desired
results. You must also take inspired action. The awareness that you are
connected to a tremendous source of power will guide your actions.
There is a great exercise that really illustrates the power of your mind
and how a new mindset can be the catalyst for tremendous change.

Imagine that you're in a dark room where every comfort has been
provided to you. The room is completely dark preventing you from
reaching out for those things you desire. You were told that the room
has lights, so you instinctively grope along the wall, where you're
accustomed to finding a switch.

For many hours you pass your hands up and down the walls
as far as you can reach until your arms ache. About the time you're

ATTRACT MONEY NOW!

ready to give up the search, you keep going, determined to locate the
switch. You're determined to enjoy the good things awaiting you, so
you sustain your search, knowing that you'll ultimately find a way to
turn on the light.

After more searching, you pause to rest. You wonder where
that switch could possibly be. "It must be here, and I will find it,"
you say to yourself, and again you pass your hands over the walls,
although you feel certain that you've already gone over every inch
of wall within your reach. This time your thoughts and movements
are not quite so tense, although equally determined. As your hands
move slowly up and down, your mind sparks the idea that the switch
might not be on the wall at all. You pause for a moment. Next, you
think that the switch might be on the floor. But reason steps in and
argues, "Impossible. Who ever heard of a light switch being placed on
the floor!"

"But," the suggestion persists, "why not try? You've gone over
everywhere you thought it would be. What the heck, try the floor."

Then you reach out across the floor with your foot hoping to find
something feeling like a light switch. Instantly your toes brush against
an unfamiliar object. You put your hand on what seems to be a push
button, but no light appears. Nevertheless, you now feel quite sure
that you've located the switch.

Pause, and ask yourself, "How does this thing work? It won't
push and it won't pull." Back comes the answer within yourself, like
a spoken word. "Sideways." You move it sideways, and the room is
flooded with light. Your joy at finding a responsive intelligence within
yourself cannot be expressed in words. It is a rapture of the heart that
many others have felt at various times.

This story is a mirror of how holding onto the correct mindset
helps you meet your goals. At first you reach out for what you know,
and the answer is not there. It's at that point you begin to search and
open yourself to other ideas. Even when you encounter obstacles and
become frustrated, you still search for answers. The answer comes to
you from what seems like thin air, but it's the universal intelligence
helping you reach your goals and giving you the answers. This is
because you stayed focused on your goal.

Now imagine yourself in the same room under the same
conditions. After several attempts at feeling around in the dark, you
feel tired, more or less discouraged, and you reason with yourself,
"Oh, what is the use? There may be a light switch in this room, and

Step 7: Help Your Community and Your World

the room may contain everything I require and again it may not." But
something indefinable within yourself convinces you that not only
is the light there, but so are the things you enjoy and desire. You say
"Well, if everything I enjoy is here, what a pity that I cannot find the
switch! I wonder why the light was not already turned on for me."

This is a typical reaction for many people. They say, "It's not
my fault, it's the crazy mixed-up world we live in! It's my family, my
boss, the President and I can't help it." They blame everyone and
everything when they have the ability to overcome the issue - but
refuse to understand that they already possess that power.

Once you recognize that there's a universal intelligence that can
and will respond, you also understand your own responsibility to act
on it. Just like being in the dark room, you had to act in order to find
the answer. Even when you didn't have a clue why things weren't
working or what might work. You must keep trying and wait for the
spark of intuitive intelligence to appear.

PERSISTENCE OF WILL

You must never quit. I encounter people everyday who seem to
have QUIT tattooed on their foreheads. It's as if they have made up
their minds way in advance that they will give a new idea X amount of
effort and that's it. They may decide that rather than 100% effort they
will give 95%, but usually it's more like 30% or 40%. They don't really
want to commit, so when they fail, they have a ready-made excuse.
They can distance themselves from becoming emotionally attached to
the outcome.

We all have our low points or our own personal 'crises of faith.'
Persistence is the ability to maintain your action and outlook regardless
of your feelings. You press on even when you feel like quitting. When
you work toward any big goal, it's normal for your motivation to ebb
and flow like waves hitting the beach.

Sometimes you'll feel motivated; sometimes you won't. But it's
your action that will produce results. Persistence allows you to keep
taking inspired action, even when you don't feel motivated. Then
you still produce results. Over time, persistence will enhance your
motivation, as the quest becomes almost like a puzzle you must solve.
It's just like trying to find the light switch. The persistence to keep
looking and thinking of other possibilities will motivate you far beyond
your limits. If you keep taking inspired action, you'll eventually get
results. These results will continue to motivate you. For example, you

ATTRACT MONEY NOW!

may become much more excited about attracting money when you go
to your mailbox and find a check you didn't expect.

Persistence doesn't mean you blindly stumble forward no matter
what. You must be willing to step back and evaluate your progress
and stay on the path toward your goals. Persistence means you keep
searching for answers and plugging away consistently at your dreams.
Persistence is not stubbornness and this can be a difficult lesson to
learn. Many people were raised to believe that once you set a goal
you should stick with it and go down with the ship if necessary. This
is why people stay in jobs they hate, live for years in a location they
don't care for and spend their time with people they don't like. They
are living in guilt - not persistence.

As you grow, your dreams and desires will change. They will grow
and morph into something way beyond what you can imagine. When
I was studying at Kent State to become a journalist, I never imagined
that several decades later I'd be speaking to more than 17,000 people
in Lima, Peru or scale the heights of Machu Picchu - but I did.

Speaking of Peru, I spoke there because of two young
entrepreneurs named Raul and Hugo. These men live in a third-
world country, yet they dream BIG. They wanted me to speak to their
country. At first their goal was to have me speak to 35,000 people
and meet the President of Peru. Sometimes, things change as you
make progress to your dreams. Instead of speaking to 35,000 people, I
spoke to 17,000. Instead of meeting the President of Peru, I met with
television reporters that promoted me to the entire country. Raul and
Hugo kept their vision while they took inspired action and adapted
the event as new information became available. Meeting them was
a thrill. And speaking to the crowd they gathered was one of the
highlights of my life. I expect even bigger things to come.

My dreams have grown and changed and so will yours. You can't
guarantee that the goals you set today will still be the ones you want
to achieve a year from now. In order to make room for new goals, we
have to delete or finish old ones. Sometimes you'll get a spark that's
so compelling and inspiring, that there's no way to go back and finish
your old one. They may have to be abandoned half-finished. I've
always found it uncomfortable to do this, but I know it's necessary to
follow that intuitive spark. Let go of the idea that you must complete
everything you start because sometimes what you learn partway
through that one idea, leads to an even better one. Follow the lead of
intuition and it will show you how to discern the true path.

Step 7: Help Your Community and Your World

Mark was a closet writer when I met him. He worked in a local
accounting firm and had dreams of publishing a book to help college
kids learn basic financial principles. He worked on it on and off
for years and everyone in his life knew he'd been working on this
book forever and doubted that it would ever be finished. Finally a
college administrator walked into his office. After talking a bit, the
conversation turned to how much of a need there is to teach young
people how to handle money. Mark told the administrator that he
was working on a book about it. The administrator asked if he'd be
interested in teaming up and co-authoring the book.

Mark had a decision to make. Did he set aside his dream, or did
he seize this opportunity? After some thinking about it, Mark decided
that taking the co-authoring opportunity was the right decision.
The book was published a year later and met with success due to the
backing of Mark's coauthor and the university he worked for. Mark
was soon out lecturing and teaching his passion to young people, an
opportunity that might have languished and disappeared if he hadn't
been willing to alter his dream.

These days I set very big goals. I want to receive all there is out
there. Does this mean that I set out on a path only to hop on another
one when an opportunity presents itself? Yes! I have lots of different
ideas and opportunities that come my way. In the early years I had a
hard time deciding which ones I was supposed to take. I'd get these
'gut' feelings like most people do, then I would try and "logic" my way
through it. Needless to say I spent a lot of time on things that were a
waste of time. I learned the hard way.

These days I've learned to trust my intuition. Sometimes it's
an emotional connection to the idea or maybe just a feeling about
a person's potential. I talk to other personal development leaders
everyday. There are a few that I will work with someday. I just know
it intuitively. Over time you'll also develop this ability to know which
opportunities to choose and which to turn down.

INSPIRE OTHERS

I read about inspiring people all the time. I like being inspired
and I want to be an inspiration to others. This is one of the leading
ways to help improve the lives of people you don't know. We all have
people who inspire us. But how do you inspire others? I think the first
way is to be a good role model. People will watch what you do more
than listen to what you say you're going to do. So in order to inspire

ATTRACT MONEY NOW!

people, you must do what you say you're going to do. It's sad but
sometimes true that the more successful you become, the more people
will come out of nowhere to tear you down. You can't be distracted by
this noise. As long as you hold true to your principles, you will prove
them wrong every time. And as you move forward, more supportive
people will be attracted to you and your success.

I've heard it said (heck I've even said it!) that people don't care
what you know until they know how much you care. You can't swoop
in and tell people what they have to do, how to do it, and expect
them to listen. You can see this in today's high school classrooms.
Kids aren't impressed by credentials or awards. They want to know if
you care about them. Until you show that you care, they won't listen
to a word you say. Adults are the same way. Take the time to make
a personal connection with people before you offer any advice. Ask
questions and take a genuine interest.

Everyone goes through tough times. You've probably seen people
that refuse to acknowledge that they've ever had a bad day. Don't be
one of them. Encourage those who need a kind word, no matter how
difficult their situation may be. Don't be afraid to share your tough
memories and experiences. Those who are struggling often feel alone.
They feel like nobody else has ever had it so bad. Let them know they
aren't alone.

Writers often talk about 'filling the well.' This is a reference to the
fact that you can't be inspiring to others unless you get inspired yourself.
I read many inspiring stories, blogs and watch inspiring programs and
films to get and stay inspired. Look for people, ideas, environments
and knowledge that you find inspiring and motivating.

It's very important for you to become a great communicator, so
you can get your message across to others. Listen to how you speak,
as well as analyze the things you say to people. I've invested plenty of
time and money to improve my communication skills.

Always increase your knowledge. Nobody knows everything about
anything. Learning and growing is an important part of becoming the
type of person you want to evolve into. Learning from others is key,
so listen to audio seminars or attend live events. Get books and read
them. Don't just stick them in the 'to be read' pile (I know that trick!).
Actually read, understand and act on them.

I like to challenge people. It's an obligation I take very seriously.
This doesn't mean I'm confrontational. I simply challenge people to
get to the next level. This is where I got the nickname "Mr. Fire!" A

Step 7: Help Your Community and Your World

friend said I was always setting "a fire" under people to get them to
follow their dreams. Well, I'm here to fire you up now.

I like to ask people hard questions regarding what they're doing
to make their dreams come true. I also want to know why they're doing
it. I do this in every book or program that I produce. On occasion,
when I'm tired or really drained, I may sit next to a person on a plane
and never say a word. It will usually cross my mind that I may have
been put in that seat because the person next to me needed me to ask
about their life and challenge them to expand their thinking. When
that thought occurs, I speak.

Remember, the seventh and final step to attracting
money is caring for your community and the world as a
whole. I always want to be the person who inspires others, who cares
and who makes a difference. You can do the same.

Now let's put all seven steps together so you can begin to attract
money now.

ATTRACT MONEY NOW!

STEP 7: HELP YOUR COMMUNITY & YOUR WORLD
TRUTHS & TAKE AWAYS

• The seventh and final step to attracting money is caring for your
community and the world as a whole.

• Emotions of goodwill and love for people you don't even know,
creates tremendous flow of those same emotions back to you.

• You shape the world you live in and have the power to
reshape it.

• In order to get what you want in life, you must resolve to never
quit.

• It's not your motivation that will produce results — it's your
inspired action.

• As you grow, your dreams and desires will change - don't be afraid
to jump on new opportunities that inspire you.

• In order to inspire others, you must allow yourself to be inspired.

Step 7: Help Your Community and Your World

ACTION STEPS

• Write down causes or movements you care about.

• Find a way to help one of those causes or movements.

• Write down a person you know of who needs help.

• Find a way to help that person.

Stupendous Result #4

Dear Dr. Batmanghelidj,

Every day since I began your wonderful water & salt program, I read and reread your remarkable book "Your Body's Many Cries for Water" and continue to be impressed by the many ways in which your new paradigm brings to light the true etiology of the many diseases that are prevalent.

My excitement is mounting day by day, as I find my energy , clarity, and sense of well-being improving.

After struggling with debilitating chronic fatigue syndrome and acute depression for almost ten years now, I am very grateful for your remarkable insight and for your persistence in bringing this information to the public & scientific community.

I will be ordering a case of your paperbacks to send to friends and relations who are suffering from misdiagnosed illness.

May you live a very long life so that your research can continue and so that your teachings can spread around the world.

With deep appreciation,

D.G., Ph.D.

Living with the Harms of Prescription Drugs

Living with the Harms of Prescription Drugs
The harms associated with prescription drugs are :
a community issue ,
a family issue,
a healthcare issue,
a public safety issue,
an industry issue.

We all have a responsibility in addressing them.

"On June 10, 2004, my only child died suddenly and unexpectedly. Michael went to bed and never
woke up. The coroner who investigated Michael’s death determined that he died as a result of
“hydromorphone intoxication.” His death was ruled an accident, and no street drugs or alcohol were
in his system. His death was preventable.
My son and I shared a beautiful, close, loving relationship. He lived at home and was the focus of my
life. Michael was a thoughtful, generous, warm and caring soul with a smile that would light up a
room. He loved children and children loved him; he was extremely close to his family, had many
friends and had a successful business partnership.
However, things changed during Michael’s last year.
In the summer of 2003, Michael seemed easily agitated and upset over the slightest things. Even
though he tried to hide this from me, I sensed something was wrong, but made the mistake of
thinking this was due to the ups and downs of a new relationship. When I talked to him about it he
said “Mum, don’t worry I’m seeing a doctor.” It wasn’t until after Michael’s death that I learned that
his doctor prescribed him more than 13,000 pills in a period of 14½ months. The day before his death
Michael was prescribed a drug he had never taken before — Dilaudid®. The active ingredient in
Dilaudid is hydromorphone, one of the most powerful opioids ever synthesized.
The next morning Michael never woke up.
Unfortunately, this kind of indiscriminate prescribing is all too common. It breaks my heart when I
think back and imagine the anguish, both physical and mental, that he must have experienced from
the excessive amounts of highly addictive medication.
After Michael’s death, I began searching for answers. I realize now that two visits to the emergency
department in Toronto may have started Michael on a slippery slope. Twice in 2002, my son was
diagnosed with kidney stones. Both times he was treated and discharged with a prescription for
Percocet™, which is oxycodone. Neither the doctor nor the pharmacist warned us that Percocet could
be addictive. The use of opioids “as prescribed” is not sufficient to prevent patient harm. My son
died within two years of his first Percocet prescription.
The system failed Michael and it continues to fail others. It is my hope that First Do No Harm will lead
to a system that doesn’t fail others as it did Michael. We must bring about the necessary changes to
end the epidemic of death and addiction caused by prescription drugs by ensuring that they are
regulated, marketed, prescribed and used in an evidence-based manner.
This vignette also represents the many untold stories and is written for all the loved ones lost to a
system that failed them. We can and must do better."
— Ada, mother

"I was a regular kid with a normal life in a good family. My parents were very supportive. No one else in my family did drugs: I was the black sheep. I started experimenting when I was just 15 and started smoking pot with my best friend who was 14. My friend’s dad used to take us to places we’d never get in and buy us beer. I thought he was super cool. One day his dad came home and dumped three piles of cocaine out of a baggie and took his line and told us to take a line. I was scared, obviously. I didn’t want him to think I was scared so I did it. Cocaine took my anxiety issues away. I tried opioids and they were even better than cocaine. I tried oxycodone and Dilaudid®. I kept hanging out with my friend and his dad. We started looking for drugs everywhere and using friends to get them. Drugs made me feel less shy and nervous around girls. In high school, drugs are very prevalent. Drugs became the focus of my life. I found a cheap supply pretty easily at first. My friend stole Dilaudid eight milligram pills from his dad, who had a prescription, and he’d sell them to me for a dollar. He only stole 20 at a time so his dad wouldn’t notice. Kids sold prescription drugs at school and it seemed safe as the pills are prescribed by a doctor. The problem is they aren’t safe. They are all addictive; I found opioids to be the worst. Eventually my cheap sources ran out and I started buying them from the street. I stole about $700 from my grandmother by “helping her” with groceries. I was 18 when I was charged with seven counts of theft for stealing cartons of cigarettes. I stole stuff from my cousin’s house. I was in detox more than 10 times. I just wasn’t ready to quit. The drugs had too much of a hold on me. I stole and sold necklaces and a camcorder for drug money. I stole my uncle’s handgun and was caught by the police while trying to sell it. I went to jail that night and then to court. I still had drugs hidden in my winter coat. I asked for a magazine and a pencil and used that to crush them up. I snorted them off the magazine in the courthouse holding cell. The only thing I wanted was that drug. Nothing else mattered to me. My parents were extremely angry and upset. I lied about how much I owed the dealers so my dad gave me $500. I paid what I owed and snuck back into the house with drugs. While my mom was still in bed, I crushed up and snorted pills. At 20 years old things changed drastically. After a night of drinking while on a mix of Dilaudid and other drugs, I robbed a late night motel. This time when I went to court I broke down and cried for everything I’d put my family and other people through. I was sentenced to four years in prison and was terrified. The withdrawal was horrific and lasted over a week. When I started feeling better, I was allowed outside. I was surrounded by concrete, but could look up at the sky. I remember breathing fresh air and vowing I’d never use drugs again. I believe everything happens for a reason. I worked out and graduated high school from prison. I got on a methadone program at prison and have stayed clean for four years. Today, I work with lots of young people so they don’t live through what I did. I’m involved with addiction services and tell my story at doctor’s conferences. I also have a blog to help kids and families: www.pastaddiction.blogspot.com. My life is so much better now without drugs. I wish I’d quit sooner." — Neil, young man recovered from prescription drug misuse.

First Do No Harm: Responding to Canada’s Prescription Drug
Crisis

"I signed up with the Toronto Police as a cadet when I was 17 years old. I was sworn in on my 21st
birthday at the rank of police constable. I was young, fit, loved hockey. I loved my life and had a
promising career ahead. Some injuries caused a shift in my back vertebrae, but I continued playing
hockey. I had a small bit of pain when I skated, but no pain on the job.
In 1989, after seven years in busy Toronto divisions, I moved to a smaller town to advance my career
as a police detective. A few years later I left the station for home and my car was T-boned. The impact
pinned my knees under the dash. I was x-rayed from head to toe at the hospital. Doctors said there
was “nothing significant.” I was told to take two weeks off and given a prescription for Percocet® for
the pain.
I had my eye on an upcoming promotion exam and after two weeks I went back to my full duties. The
pain in my lower back worsened and a rheumatologist determined that there had been a spinal shift.
The doctor gave me a prescription for 100 Percocet® while waiting for surgery to fuse my vertebrae.
The surgery that should have taken away the pain was a complete failure. I was forced to withdraw
abruptly from Percocet seven days after surgery. The withdrawal was horrific and pain was still there.
Doctors scheduled a second back surgery six months later. Meanwhile, I went back to work.
I never looked for Percocet or took pills improperly until doctors flatly refused to give me any more.
As a cop, I knew certain people around town who had Percocet. I found medication where I could
from friends and even from criminal acquaintances. I was in chronic pain. My tolerance kept building,
so I had to keep increasing the number of pills I took. I went from 2 to 4 to 6 pills a day. Unfortunately,
the second surgery was also a failure. I was prescribed Percocet again. This time I tapered down with
the help of the doctor despite the pain. Eventually, I went to Tylenol 3® and diazepam. I was off all
narcotic pain meds for four to six months.
Then, my doctor prescribed OxyContin®. I was told it was a better drug and the “addictive
component was less.” I was at square one and taking more pills than ever. My doctor’s solution was
for me to claim to be an addict just to get access to the methadone clinic to taper off Percocet.
People in chronic pain shouldn’t be victimized. I was a respected officer. Now, I had to hide from my
own guys just to sneak into the meth clinic and sit for hours waiting for my “carry.” I would cover my
head and worry I’d be sitting with someone I’d arrested as a plain clothes detective. I wasn’t asked to
act like an addict, but told I was one since methadone in the clinic was not for pain management, but
for drug treatment. I was horrified. Methadone was very effective for pain management.
My supervisors found out and I was justifiably disciplined for some of my actions, but not dismissed. I
was labeled a “druggy” by administration and my colleagues. It was the loneliest time of my life.
Unable to do the job without pain medication, I felt I had no choice and walked away from my career.
The next 10 years I was in and out of boring jobs. The pain clinic saved my life. I now combine
prescription and non-prescription treatments to manage pain. I use Percocet and methadone in very
low doses. I’ll be trying an experimental electrical implant device this spring. Because my pain is
well managed, I’ve been able to build a successful private investigation business and teach part-time
as a college professor. I’m also involved in overseas humanitarian missions in Haiti. I have my life
back."

WATER AND SEA SALT CURE :  DRUGS KILL

"Webequie is an isolated Ojibway community of about 800 people in Northern Ontario. It is 540
kilometres northwest of Thunder Bay, on an island in a lake. It is only accessible by air or a seasonal
winter road. The closest year-round road access is at Pickle Lake, 250 kilometres to the southwest.
The people of Webequie are standing together with the support of the community and regional
leadership to recover from the devastating impacts of widespread abuse of OxyContin® (oxy). Many
lives were deteriorating because of the misuse of these prescription pills. Finding a way forward
wasn’t easy. The challenges were a profound lack of funding and very little knowledge of what could
be done to help. So Webequie, along with other Matawa First Nations and the tribal council, set about
using shoestring budgets to provide direct community support.
Oxy pills were selling for $600 to 700 for an 80 milligram pill. These drugs led to robberies, break
and enters, and violence. There were some individuals who were so desperate for money that they
sold their appliances, furniture and TVs to feed their habit. Many children went hungry. Those on
drugs did anything for the money. Family violence was common.
As a community we suffered greatly, but were committed to finding a way forward. What we
recognize in our Ojibway worldview and way of life is that we should be asking ourselves what was
the way our ancestors saw; only then can we clearly see our way forward. First Nations substance
abuse is intertwined with the historical erosion of culture, intergenerational impacts of residential
schooling and other forms of emotional abuse, which caused deep trauma.
We realized we needed a customized approach to the prescription drug problem. We found about
70% of our population was involved with misuse of prescription drugs. As an isolated community, the
reality was that 100% of residents were impacted in some way by prescription drug harms.
The drugs resulted in deterioration of the kinship and values that define us as a people. The rise in
community safety issues was apparent. Kids were neglected and acted out at school. Bullying and
truancy became more evident. These drugs resulted in dysfunctional families, and mental and
emotional abuse. People would inject drugs and drop the needles where children could find them.
From 2011 to 2012, a Suboxone® trial was initiated by the Webequie First Nation. In total, 101 people
participated in the program, which was initially paid for by the community. The intent was to get
people off OxyContin. Participants did an initial induction for four to five days, and then were closely
supervised for a month. They then “maintained” after to prevent a relapse. At that time the doses
were tapered off.
We had counselling that included traditional and western approaches. People were able to access
traditional knowledge and medicine. Most were able to stay off oxy for a year after. We have one
doctor and community nurses living in Webequie year-round who are trusted. Addiction doctors fly
in as needed. People had the choice whether to combine traditional Anishinabe cleansing with
medical and non-medical detoxification. We are now on a journey towards a place of hope and
healing. The drug treatment program brought together Elders, and western and traditional medicine.
Those affected are healing. Parents are now playing with kids. Our community is much healthier than
a year ago and we have renewed hope. As indigenous people, our culture and spirituality offers
resilience. Our journey is not complete, but we are in a much better place and will continue to move
forward."
