SWING HANDS EXERCISE PING SHUAI GONG. Part 1

SWING HANDS EXERCISE PING SHUAI GONG
What is Ping Shuai Gong? Who can practice Ping Shuai Gong? Ping Shuai Gong is a very simple qigong exercise, also known as swing hands exercise that can be practiced by anyone, anywhere and anytime. Ping Shuai Gong benefits its practitioner by improving balance, making the joints and muscles more fluid and allows the entire body to relax. The flow of energy through the body will also fortify the muscles, joints and bones by making them stronger and healthier. Through the movements of qigong , your muscles and joints go through ranges that can open up (if your body is rigid and stiff) or maintain your muscular and joint health by the beneficial movement of those joints and muscles. The sequence of movement can bring your blood circulation to the end of your limbs quickly and easily, as the qi and blood redirected back to your internal organs, your body and overall health will improved after constant practice and allowing them to heal and strengthen as they should.

This is an exercise that requires no equipment, it can be done inside or outside. It's very easy to come up with excuses in today's busy lifestyle to turn away from one of the most important things in our life ~ our health! We keep ourselves busy planning our future and saving for our retirement, so we can enjoy the benefits of our hard work. But in this busy life, we forget how important our health is. Without it, none of us will enjoy the fruits of our labours! You can no longer give excuses for not exercising.

Miracle or malarkey? Can arm-swinging stave off cancer?

Miracle or malarkey? Can arm-swinging stave off cancer?

Qíjī háishì malarkey? Shǒubì bǎidòng kěyǐ zǔzhǐ áizhèng ma?

PETALING JAYA: A miraculous treatment for cancer has been found and it apparently involves the simple act of swinging one’s arms repeatedly for prolonged periods of time.

If science could only prove this to be true, it would certainly spread like wildfire across the world.

For now, the supposed cancer-curing capabilities of Ping Shuai – literally meaning ‘swing hand’ – Qi Gong are only believed to be fact by the most hardcore proponents of the exercise.

Whether one believes in the effectiveness of Eastern medicine and health practices or otherwise, it is undeniable that some people swear by them.

PETALING JAYA:

PETALING JAYA: Yǐjīng fāxiànle yī zhǒng shénqí de áizhèng zhìliáo fāngfǎ, tā xiǎnrán shèjí cháng shíjiān fǎnfù bǎidòng yī zhī shǒubì de jiǎndān xíngwéi.

Rúguǒ kēxué zhǐ néng zhèngmíng zhè shì zhēn de, tā kěndìng huì xiàng yěhuǒ yīyàng mànyán dào shìjiè gèdì.

Jiù mùqián ér yán, píng shuài suǒwèi de áizhèng zhìliáo nénglì - zìmiàn yìsi shì “huīshǒu” - qìgōng zhǐ bèi rènwéi shì zhè xiàng yùndòng de zuì héxīn zhīchí zhě de shìshí.

Wúlùn shìfǒu xiāngxìn dōngfāng yīxué hé jiànkāng shíjiàn de yǒuxiào xìng, wú kě fǒurèn, yǒuxiē rén huì fāshì.

However, the possibility of the placebo effect being hard at work is always lurking in the background. Then again, scientists have discovered the medicinal properties of several herbs that are traditionally used in Chinese medicine.

Thus, it should be with an open mind when one considers the benefits of Ping Shuai.

The exercise is said to have been introduced to the East by Master Da Mo, also known as Bodhidharma, a 5th/6th century Buddhist monk.

It is a rather simple exercise that can be done by both the young and old.

This is how to do it:

• Stand with legs shoulder-width apart.

• With palms facing downwards, raise both arms to chest level.

• Swing arms in a pendulum-like motion.

• After every five swings, bend knees slightly and spring up quickly.

The exercise demands little use of actual strength and on the contrary, encourages relaxation of the body.

On the surface level, it appears that this exercise does help provide the body with a level of physical activity, and it is simple enough for even the most unfit of persons to do.

Ping Shuai explained

Qi Gong master, Lee Feng San, expressed his hope that the exercise would become more widespread among the public.

According to him, the exercise, “improves qi (life energy) and blood circulation through the theory of ’10 fingers connecting the heart.’”

Ping Shuai, he said, opens all the meridian points (the path through which qi flows) and stimulates the bone marrow to rid toxins from the body.

The energy flows to the fingertips, then on to the body’s internal organs and brain; opening and unblocking arteries and veins along the way.

Many have since claimed that their practice of Ping Shuai has cured them of a variety of ailments including eczema and backache.

There has even been a fantastical but contested claim about the exercise curing a man of cancer.

The term “correlation does not imply causation” applies quite a bit to the benefits of Ping Shuai.

It is not necessarily the exercise of arm swinging in particular that brings about a healthy life.

It is more likely that the combination of physical exercise and a healthy diet simply leads to a stronger immune system; a medically known fact.

The type of physical exercise, be it running, swimming, jogging or aerobics, would ultimately not matter, as long as it is done consistently and in a safe manner.

By its nature, Ping Shuai is not harmful and is indeed probably a good form of exercise due to how easy it is.

Until the day its cancer-curing capabilities are proven, it would not hurt to swing your arms for a bit to try knocking some chub off them.

Surgeon Dr Xu Dafu from Taiwan saved by practicing Swing Hand Level Exercise

Ping Shuaishou — may be translated as level arm swinging exercise — gets you to simply swing your arms, with slight bending of knees in between.  It has, nevertheless, saved the life of many.

One of the notable beneficiaries of the exercise is surgeon Xu Dafu from Taiwan.

The surgeon was devastated when diagnosed with the third-stage terminal colorectal cancer.  Being a surgeon for more than 20 years, he was aware of the impact of surgery and was reluctant to go through the surgical procedures – despite the stern warning from his medical fraternity about the likely fatal consequence.

It was by chance that he was introduced to the Taoist exercise. The exercise is so simple it did not take him long to decide on trying it out.  The results were, nevertheless, miraculous and he has never looked back since.

Upon three months of having started the exercise, the 5-cm lump in his body inexplicably vanished — together with the bodily pains.  Since then, the surgeon has diligently kept to the routine of swinging the arms to stay healthy.

He now also teaches his patients to do the exercise, and urges people with medical conditions to try the exercise out with a combination of healthy diet.

“When the arms swing downward, the muscles are relaxed,” he says. “This improves the blood circulation. The circulation is like a highway; it allows white blood and other cells in the immune system to travel to problematic area to help with healing.”

Swing your arms to the pink of health

While the exercise is good for anyone who want to stay healthy, it is said to be helpful in improving a number of medical conditions, including hypertension, diabetes, cataracts, arthritis, cancer, hemiplegia, mini stroke, as well as heart, liver, kidney and lung conditions, .

As the video is in Mandarin, I have translated the key instructions in English for your benefits:

Begin by standing firmly with feet apart at shoulder width.

Keep the center of gravity. Close your eyes, relax the whole body.

Breathe with your nose. Stay natural.

Open your eyes, smile.

Raise your arms to the height of shoulders, at a level parallel to the ground. Let the palms stay flat.

Then start swinging.

Swing the arms rhythmically. Relax. Count the swings. At every fifth swing,  bend your knees slightly twice and bounce your body back naturally.  Remember to relax the knees and stay flexible. Do not bend the body too much.

Take it easy.  Feel the resonance. The movements allows the chi energy to flow to the finger tips. Finger tips are connected to the heart, and when the chi energy bounces back, it helps to cleanse the internal organs, and rid the body of problems in the process.

Slow down and gradually come to a stop. Relax the hands, allow them to return to the sides of your body naturally.

Close your eyes gently, going into the state of receiving energy in your body.

Relax and breathe evenly. Slowly open your eyes.

Perform the exercise for 10 minutes daily, and you will see delighting results.

Ping Shuai Gong - Swing Hands Workout

Qigong and Taijiquan require instruction and class time and, because of distance, availability, scheduling, cost and other constraints, many can't attend.  Recently, through my Internet research, I came upon a unique form of qigong called "ping shuai gong" or arm swinging exercise that is simple and effective; meaning, you don't need an instructor nor school. Watch the videos, and you'll see what I mean.  It can be boring but no worse than long walks or jogging, but you can offset the boredom by either watching television or listening to music.  Put your headsets on.  I do!

With that said, I highly recommend it.

These videos are pretty cool with grand master, Lee Feng Sheng,  explaining a mindset (in subtitles like watching a kung fu movie) as his students perform the movements.

I love his wisdom.  It's inspirational.

The goal is to do three sets of ten minutes.  The reason.  See below.

Every 10 minutes is a phase

PHASE 1: In the 1st 10 minutes, it will activate your basic circulation.

PHASE 2: In the 2nd 10 minutes, it will start the work inside your internal organs & will also bear some effects on your brain.

PHASE 3: In the 3rd 10 minutes, or about ½ hour, you will discover that some of the hidden sickness inside your body will be uncovered.

This kind of circulation will bring balance and harmony inside your body. And the hidden old sickness will naturally be cured & you will feel very comfortable.

Part Three: Simple and Effective
