None Can Really Stop The Aging Process

Knowing how and why your body changes with age will help you discourage alterations in cell, tissue, and organ function that slow you down. This knowledge will also help you take steps to stop the development of conditions such as diabetes and eye disease that are more common with advancing age.

To describe every alteration aging has in store, we've decided to concentrate on the major body changes that you may be able to delay -- or even prevent -- by living a healthy lifestyle, especially by eating right.

Anatomical Effects of Aging. 
Bones are deceptive: From the outside, they appear hard and stagnant. But bones are bustling with activity. Their tough exterior conceals a vast network of blood vessels that transport nutrients to, and wastes away from, working bone cells. Bones are constantly being remodeled; they are in a continuous cycle of destruction and renewal until the day you die.


The problem is, as time passes you lose more bone than you make. As a result, bones thin and become increasingly susceptible to fracture. As this process accelerates after age 50, osteoporosis becomes more common. Osteoporosis is a condition of progressive bone loss that is painful, disfiguring, and debilitating.

It weakens bones to the point that fracture comes easily. Even coughing, tugging on a cabinet door, and especially a fall, can cause a fracture in those who suffer from advanced osteoporosis. Some bone loss with age is unavoidable, but the rate at which bone is lost is highly individual.

Genetics plays a role in the development of osteoporosis -- Caucasian and Asian women are more likely to develop osteoporosis, as are those who have relatives with the disease. Menopause is also a culprit: Bone loss accelerates in the five years or so after menopause.

Bad habits, such as smoking and excessive use of alcohol, also contribute to bone loss, as does a sedentary lifestyle and inadequate intake of calcium and vitamin D. Certain medications such as cortisone-like drugs and cholestyramine, a drug to lower blood cholesterol levels, also accelerate bone loss. So do some medical conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis.

However, much research proves that regularly performing weight-bearing exercise, such as walking and lifting weights, and getting an adequate amount of calcium and vitamin D can keep bones strong longer, building bone and reducing the risk of osteoporosis, even in the elderly

If you think you're getting shorter, you're probably right. Everyone shrinks with age. We're tallest by the end of our forties, then lose up to two inches in height by age 80. The loss in height is gradual but accelerates late in life. Why do we get shorter with age? There are myriad reasons including weaker muscles; water loss; postural changes; and deterioration of the spongy disks separating the vertebrae in our backbone, causing a compression of the spine.

Women tend to lose more height than men because they are more often the victims of osteoporosis, which results in loss of bone tissue in the vertebrae of the backbone, compressing it and making you shorter. That's why it's so important to maintain bone health and strength throughout life. And it doesn't hurt to sit up straight, either.

Joints become less resistant to wear and tear with time. That's in part because of the changes in cartilage, the tissue that cushions the tips of the bones in your joints. Aging causes cartilage to lose water, making it more vulnerable to injury from repetitive motion and stress. Arthritis is characterized by pain and stiffness in the joints, and in some forms, swelling, redness, and heat.

It is more common with each passing decade. Osteoarthritis, the most common form of arthritis, occurs when cartilage begins to fray and decay. Osteoarthritis is usually confined to hips, knees, spine, and hands.

Carrying around excessive weight aggravates osteoarthritis in the knees and hips, which bear weight. In fact, being overweight increases your risk of developing osteoarthritis. Regular physical activity may help reduce joint pain and stiffness and increase flexibility, muscle strength, and endurance.

You may have noticed that you can't lift heavy loads nearly as well as you could five or ten years ago. That's because aging causes a decrease in the strength, size, and endurance of muscle tissue, perhaps due in part to decreased blood flow to muscle tissue. But don't put less strength and tone down to age: Inactivity wreaks much more havoc on muscles than time does.

Sitting around accelerates muscle loss. In fact, experts say the loss in strength and stamina that we take for granted with old age is in part caused by reduced physical activity. By age 75, one in three men and half of all women get no regular exercise, which exacerbates the muscle loss that age causes.

Skin is composed of two main layers: the epidermis, the layer you wash and dry, and the dermis, which lies directly below its more visible counterpart and is where hair and sweat glands originate. Dermal and epidermal cells diminish in aging. The dermis actually thins by about 20 percent, and the blood supply to it drops off with time. Wrinkles develop, primarily due to a loss of collagen, a cementlike protein that holds cells together.

When it goes, so goes elasticity, the property that provides skin with its resilience, helping you avoid laugh lines and crow's feet in your youth. Sun exposure, too, is a major contributor to the development of wrinkles. In fact, the sun causes most skin damage, including brown "age spots" and skin cancers.

As skin gets thinner and less elastic, it becomes more fragile, bruising and tearing more easily and taking longer to heal. The loss of some sweat and oil glands from the dermis may result in chronically dry skin. Thinning skin also compromises its ability to act as a barrier to infection. Skin injuries, more common with age, also increase your vulnerability to infection.

Aesthetics aside, thinning skin has implications for your health. Your skin participates in the body's vitamin D production. Vitamin D is calcium's partner in helping keep bones strong. It gets its start in skin that's been exposed to strong ultraviolet light.

Since aging skin has a limited capacity to initiate vitamin D production, vitamin D deficiency is more common in older people, especially those living in northern climates, where the sun is too weak to make vitamin D for half the year. Applying a sunscreen with a Sun Protection Factor (SPF) of 8 or higher helps protect your skin but blocks much-needed ultraviolet rays.

Now it’s Time to Break Free from the Fear of Aging


In this world, there is enough stuff to bewilder and confuse us. Say signboards in airport, metro stations, global news, people, and personal situations like finance, relationships etc. Further looking at tragic events like calamities, accidents, death of loved ones, cancer infected kids, addiction to drugs, relationship woes and the list continues…. Sometimes it’s easy to digest and sometimes not? In fact we ignore and conceal those thoughts deep inside.
Even if we are drowned in these subtle doubts, still we continue to live our life, go to work, come back, cook food, take care of our kids, see television, spend time in Facebook, go pubs, work hard and so on. Still the doubts and confusions are not gone. We may temporarily forget and don’t talk about the situation, still they are present inside.
We may ask within ourselves why did market crash? Why the bill was passed in the House? Why the terrorist killed the innocent ones? Why only he was affected by a rare type of cancer? Lot of why’s? So this is the point where we are drowned with lot of questions? We are bombarded with information via news and media. But we don’t have the wisdom to figure out the real cause – WHY IT IS HAPPENING?
We always seek the answer but as we do not know whom to ask, we ignore it. It’s very natural to ignore as we have to again wake up in the morning and go office and follow the routine life.
In all these circumstances we continue to live and build dreams of living a good life, but life do not go smooth as expected, we are affected with disease, old age and so on. Even the medical science is advancing; it can’t make us live a very long life. It can’t stop us from aging. So we suffer from anxiety and think what will happen to our dreams and what will happen to me. They ask themselves can’t we stay alive forever?
Yes, you can stay alive forever.
If we want the most bonafide answer to all those situations described above, we should go to the revealed scriptures of the world.
So in this post we will focus on the most fearful event of our life i.e. death.
The teachings of Vedas confirm that we can be alive forever. But before that we have to know who we are? Yes it’s a good question to start. Let us ask this question to ourselves…
Who are we? We immediately look into our pockets, Office Id card, passports, door name plates and so on, they speak like these – Robert Frank, 36 years old, veteran, Managing director, CEO, American, African, doctors, lawyers, mother, father, brother and so on. We acquire a good number of identity labels since our birth. The first one we get is female or male and new labels continue to join our “identity” bucket.
And it’s very simple to figure out that these identities or labels change by time. In fact these are temporary.

Stimulating Pleasure

By what mysterious processes does physical exercise have such an impact on the emotional brain ? This is a billion dollar question.

Naturally, there is, first of all, its effect on endorphins. These tiny molecules secreted by the brain resemble opium and its derivatives, such as morphine and heroin. 

The emotional brain contains many receptors for endorphins, and that's why it is so sensitive to opium -- it immediately radiates a sensation of well-being and satisfaction by hijacking one of the emotional brain's own intrinsic mechanisms. Opium has a powerful effect on emotions -- in fact, it's the strongest known antidote to the pangs of separation and mourning.

However, when derivatives of opium are used too often, they can become habit forming. Brain receptors become inured to them, so the dose must be systematically increased in order to produce the same effect. Moreover, because the receptors become less and less sensitive, regular pleasures lose all their power and potency -- including sex, the pleasures of which is often reduced to nothing in drug addicts. Even affected those patients who were on doctors prescribed drugs.  

The secretion of endorphins brought on by physical exercise does exactly the opposite. The more the natural mechanism of pleasure is gently stimulated by exercise, the more sensitive the mechanism itself becomes. In addition to relishing sex and life's other big pleasures, people who engage physical exercise regularly actually get more pleasure out of the little things in life : their friendships, their cats, their meals, their hobbies, or even the smiles of passerby in the street. Essentially, it becomes easier for them to be satisfied. And in fact, the experience of pleasure is just the opposite of depression.

Depression is defined, above all, by the absence of pleasure ,more so than by sadness, which is probably the reason why the release of endorphins has such a potent antidepressant and anxiolytic effect.

Stimulating the emotional brain by these natural processes also kindles the  immune system. It promotes the proliferation of those so-called "natural killer" cells, making them more aggressive against infections and cancer cells. [ " EMOTIONS PROFOUND INFLUENCE BODY FUNCTIONS . "NATURAL KILLER" CELLS OF THE IMMUNE SYSTEM ARE THE FIRST LINE OF DEFENSE of the body. Like many other physiological functions, they are under the control of the emotional brain. Positive emotions such as peacefulness and well-being stimulate these cells. Stress, anxiety, and depression interfere with their function. Natural smaller killer cells converge are attacking a larger cancer cell. ]
The opposite effect occurs with heroin addicts, whose immune defenses collapse, often causing them to become gravely ill. 

Exercise may also strengthen another physiological mechanism related to emotional health. This mechanism involves what we have already learned about heart rate variability. People who exercise regularly show a greater variability in heart rate and more coherence than people who do not. This means that their parasympathetic system , the physiological "brake" that brings on  periods of  calm , is healthier and stronger , A good balance between the two branches of the autonomic nervous system is one of the best potential antidotes to anxiety and panic attacks. All the symptoms of of anxiety start with an overactive sympathetic system -- a dry mouth ( cellular dehydration ongoing ), accelerated heartbeat, sweating, trembling, a rise in blood pressure (also another cellular dehydration ongoing). The sympathetic and parasympathetic systems are always in opposition. Thus, the more stimulation the parasympathetic branch receives, the stronger it becomes -- like a developing muscle. When it is strong enough, it simply blocks the symptoms of anxiety. 

A new treatment for depression is under experimentation in major centers for biological psychiatry around the world. A device implanted under the skin stimulates the parasympathetic system.This treatment of the future requires no effort from the patient. It is able to bring on the benefits effects of the parasympathetic system.  Very promising. I personally think that physical exercise and the practice of  cardiac coherence may produce exactly the same outcome, provided that patients are still motivated enough to undertake the exercises and drink enough water daily with sea salt.

Phenylethylamine In AFA Algae

Phenylethylamine (PEA)
Also found within AFA algae is a concentrated level of phenylethylamine (PEA) , an adrenal and brain chemical naturally synthesized in our bodies from two amino acids : phenylethylamine and tyrosine . PEA increases the activity of neurotransmitters (brain chemicals) in parts of the brain that control our ability to pay attention and stay alert. 

[AFA is a nitrogen-fixing algae that draws nitrogen from the atmosphere to build world-class protein. AFA has been harvested, filtered, cleaned, and dried from Klamamth Lake for worldwide consumption since the 1970s.]

Elevated PEA levels occur when we are captivated by a good book, movie, or project ; this happens specifically during those moments when we are so focused that we lose all track of time, food, and the outside world. PEA is noticeably abundant in the brains of happy people. 

PEA has also been dubbed the "love chemical." it helps to create feelings of attraction , excitement , and euphoria . When we fall in love our PEA levels increase, we become peppy and full of optimism. The brain release PEA when we are sexually aroused. PEA levels can peak during orgasm. 

When the brain is flooded with PEA , the neurotransmitter dopamine is then blocked from being deactivated and dopamine levels rise. Elevated dopamine levels are associated with increasing mental concentration and a positive attitude.

PEA also increase the effectiveness of another neurotransmitter , norepinephrine , which increases feeling of joy. 

In one experiment, investigators found that aerobic exercise can elevate the body's levels of (PEA). PEA is part of the endorphin-induced "runner's high" that enhances energy , mood , and attention. When researchers had  twenty healthy young men run on a treadmill for 30 minutes, they found that the average concentration of PEA in the participants’ urine increased by 77 percent. In addition, the research indicated that patients suffering from depression and bipolar disorder had lower than normal levels of PEA in their urine.

PEA is found premade and in a great natural abundance in two foods that we know: cacao and blue-green algae (especially in blue phycocyanin). Those two foods can significantly elevate the presence of PEA in our brain.

AFA and cacao keep our PEA levels high, no matter what is happening in our life. Blue-green algae works synergistically with cacao in creating a strong ability to focus and pay attention even if we suffer from Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD). One study looking at blue-green algae as a brain food followed 109 students who were fed blue-green algae. The study concluded that the children had a significant improvement in the ability to focus, follow directions and concentrate. In additional the children experienced a reduction in argumentative, demanding and combative behavior, fewer symptoms of anxiety and depression, an improvement in social skills and fewer signs of emotional and behavioral withdrawal.

Drapeau references a study in Primordial Food that indicates oral doses of PEA at the rate of 10 mg per day decreased symptoms of depression in 60 percent of the patients tested. In addition, PEA did not cause the patients to gain weight, as most people do with antidepressants; instead, they actually lost weight. AFA contains approximately 2 mg per gram of PEA. AFA concentrates are now available that contain 10mg of PEA per gram. PEA has no side effects; chemical dependency issues and tolerance limits over time (ie, doses may stay the same over long periods) are not a concern.

PEA appears to be the primary active ingredient that inhibits appetite and helps people to lose weight when they consume AFA blue-green algae. In a double-blind crossover study involving human patients, supplementing the diets of obese outpatients with 2.8 grams of blue-green algae three times daily over a four week period resulted in a statistically significant reduction of body weight.

IRON
AFA algae is exceptionally rich in bioavailable iron. When one switches to a vegetarian diet, the iron normally acquired from blood sources (meat) must be drawn from plants, which may be challenging to some individuals. This is where AFA algae can help. AFA is an exceptional source of iron, which works with AFA’s manganese, copper, B vitamins and vitamin C to fight anemia especially in vegetarians who are adapting to non-blood (nonheme) iron sources in plants.

DNA and RNA
 DNA and RNA are raw genetic material we call nucleic acids. AFA algae contains approximately 4% DNA and RNA. These nucleotides have antimicrobial, antiviral and antifungal properties. Raw DNA and RNA from AFA algae can be stripped out of the algae by our digestive system and used to assemble new, genetically healthy cells as well as to rejuvenate damaged cells and tissues.

DIGESTIVE WELLNESS
There are thousands of enzymes present in living and/or low temperature dried AFA algae. These enzymes help to assist our “enzyme cascade” which begins in digestion, continues through the assimilation of nutrients and ends in metabolism. The more enzymes we have in our diet, the easier time the body has with digestion and metabolism. Raw algae, honey and grasses (e.g. wheatgrass juice) are some of the richest sources of enzymes.

AFA contains 128 ORAC units per gram. 

BETA-CAROTENE
AFA algae is extraordinarily rich in carotenoids such as beta-carotene. Research continues to demonstrate that the greater the beta-carotene content of one’s diet, the longer one lives. Research science has shown that beta-carotene activates the thymus glad and the immune system. Dr. Charles Simone, author of Cancer and Nutrition describes that beta-carotene blocks the process whereby healthy cells turn into cancerous cells.

Beta-carotene is one of the safest food nutrients and is nontoxic, even in megadoses. If one’s skin begins to turn orange from an extremely high intake of beta-carotene, this is still safe and is not a cause for alarm. It simply indicates that one lacks a liver enzyme that breaks down certain carotene pigments. Some people have this liver enzyme and some people do not have it. If one slows or stops a high intake of carotene, the orange skin color will eventually return to normal.

FORTIFYING THE IMMUNE SYSTEM.
In Primordial Food, Drapeau cites research performed by a tem of scientists affiliated with the University of Illinois. The team was composed of one board-certified forensic examiner and microbiologist, one surgeon, and three physicians. More than two hundred cases were reviewed in this study. The study concluded that AFA appears to be effective in treating various viral conditions, chronic fatigue, Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), depression, inflammatory diseases and fibromyalgia. The study suggests that AFA acts on the immune and nervous systems and prevents inflammation.

Studies done on AFA have demonstrated that it stimulates the migration of stem cells from the bone marrow into the blood and brain (mainly due to the actions of the blue pigment phycocyanin), stimulates white blood cells, and inhibits COX-2 activity, preventing inflammation and improving nervous-system health, as well as one’s overall mood.

Drapeau also cites research indicating that AFA, when consumed daily for several weeks, helps move natural killer (NK) cells out of the blood and into the tissues to patrol for and destroy damaged and diseased cells. Although green tea and ginkgo biloba leaf impove the activity of NK cells, no other substance has been found that stimulates this patrolling work.

Researches have discovered that a blue-green algae protein reduces the ability of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) AND Ebola virus. The antiviral protein, known as cyanovirin-N (CV-N) can extend the survival time of the Ebola-infected mice. There is currently no treatment for Ebola infection, which causes severe and often fatal hemorrhagic fever. “CV-N is extremely effective against a broad range of HIV strains” said Barry O’Keefe, PhD of NCI’s Centre for Cancer Research, one of the authors of the study. “CV-N is the first molecule known to inhibit Ebola infection by interfering with the virus’ ability to enter cells”.

CV-N inhibits HIV and Ebola infection by binding to the outside of the virus and physically blocking it from entering healthy cells. The protein attaches to a particular sugar molecule on the virus surface.

OMEGA-3 FATTY ACIDS
AFA contains alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) and the long-chain omega-3 fatty acid known as docosahexanoic acid (DHA). Nearly 50% of the fat (oil) content of AFA is composed of these omega-3 essential fatty acids.

In general, most diets worldwide are deficient in omega-3 fatty acids and excessive in omega-6 fatty acids and rancid trans-fatty acids. An excess of omega-6 fatty acids and trans-fats leads to an inflammatory response in the body, which eventually develops into a contributing factor in cardiovascular disease, immunity challenges, neurological problems and skin disorders.

Omega-3 fatty acids such as ALA and DHA support immunity by helping to attract immune cells to the sites of injury, chronic pain and cellular damage while calming the inflammatory response.
Humans manufacture only small amounts of DHA internally through the consumption of alpha-linolenic acid, an omega-3 fatty acid commonly found in hempseed, chia, flax, as well as other seeds. This amount of DHA is usually not enough to meet the demands of our nervous system, especially in a high-stress environment.

Traditionally, DHA was acquired directly from eating seafood and fish. With the onset of more seafood allergies and the problems of mercury and PCBs polluting fish, safer forms of DHA have been discovered in other foods. AFA is one of those foods.

DHA is a critical essential fatty acid used in the production and maintenance of healthy eyesight (retina), brain and nervous system tissue, cardiovascular “slipperiness” and sperm, long-chain omega-3 fatty acids such as DHA make our cardiovascular system too slippery for calcium-forming nanobacteria (microscopic barnacles) to attach and begin to calcify the arties causing arteriosclerosis.
A deficiency of DHA has been correlated to ADD symptoms, Alzheimer’s, arthritis, autoimmune conditions, cardiovascular disease, depression, low brain serotonin levels, neuroses, postpartum depression, and skin disorders.

The therapeutic consumption of omega-3 fatty acids has been shown to improve one’s mood and cardiovascular condition. The consumption of omega-3 also inhibits the formation of breast, colon, pancreatic and prostate cancer.

AFA IS NON TOXIC
During seasonal algal blooms in Klamath Lake, the pH of the water can reach eleven and the oxygen can drop below three parts per million, which can be deadly to fish in the immediate vicinity of the bloom. The death of the fish is not due to any toxins.

Reports that AFA contains toxic proteins have proven to be incorrect. Not only have hundreds of thousands, if not millions of individuals consumed AFA with relatively few cases of side effects, scientific research has indicated that AFA is clear of toxins and that the toxicity of other algae forms may be the source of the confusion.

Some scientists have suggested that AFA blue-green algae contains the amino-acid compound known as B-methylamino alanine (BMAA), and that this amino-acid compound could be linked to neurological problems. Subsequent test results indicated that AFA is devoid of the controversial amino-acid compound known as BMAA.

In Primordial Food, Drapeau reports “In Klamath Lake, nearly ten years of intense testing has failed to reveal the presence of any neurotoxins in its AFA. In 1998 the opinion among scientists was that AFA did not contain neurotoxins and that the original samples that had been identified as AFA were likely another species”. He goes on to cite a Wright State University study examining algae genetics that indicated the samples of algae believed to be toxic were not AFA but in fact belonged to the Anabaena genera.

Phycocyanin Inside AFA Blue-green Algae

The antioxidant phycocyanin is a pigment that provides the intense blue colour in blue-green algae. Phycocyanin can constitute up to 15 percent of the dry weight of a blue-green algae harvest, this is approximately twice the concentration of the phycocyanin found in spirulina. The rare, blue-coloured phycocyanin helps inhibit the growth of certain cancer colonies , reduces inflammation of the colitis, fights chronic inflammation, supports the liver , protects against free-radical damage, improves the production of neurotransmitters , and aids production of rejuvenating stem cells. 

1. Phycocyanin operates with our  own internal pigment bilirubin to keep the liver functioning at optimal levels. 

2. Phycocyanin helps with the formation of neurotransmitters by acting to assist in the attachment of one amino acid to another. 

3. Phycocyanin has been shown to inhibit the enzymes cyclooxygenase ( COX-2 ) and lipoxygenase .
COX-2 and lipoxygenase are enzymes associated with the production of inflammatory compounds. When COX-2 and lipoxygenase are inhibited naturally with phycocyanin , the inflammatory and pain-forming reactions in the body are slowed and/or stopped.
