The Hidden Messages in Water

The Hidden Messages in Water

The Power of Being Positive

Overview
As we go about our daily tasks (school, work, etc.), it is inevitable for us to encounter situations that may be overwhelming or frustrating.  Usually, these types of situations may elicit negative responses.  Although a negative response may be typical, it is important for us to understand that something as simple as maintaining a positive attitude can help us through tough times.  In the book, The Hidden Messages in Water, this idea is discussed in detail, while highlighting the power of words.

   Our Connection With Water
“The average human body is 70 percent water” (Page xv).

“We start out life being 99 percent water, as fetuses.  When we are born, we are 90 percent water, and by the time we reach adulthood we are down to 70 percent.  If we die of old age, we will probably be about 50 percent water.  In other words, throughout our lives we exist mostly as water” (Page xv).

The Experiment
Dr. Emoto and his associates exposed water to positive and negative words, expressions, and music.  Subsequently, they froze the water and photographed the crystals that formed.  This experiment provided concrete visual evidence of how water reacted to both positive and negative energy.

“Water exposed to ‘Thank You’ formed beautiful hexagonal crystals, but water exposed to the word ‘Fool’ produced crystals similar to the water exposed to the heavy metal music, malformed and fragmented” (Page xxv).

Before and After

Lake water before positive words are used.

Lake water after positive words were used.

What does it all Mean?
“Modern researchers have shown that the condition of the mind has a direct impact on the condition of the body” (Page xvi).

Since we are made primarily of water, and since water can be influenced by positive and negative energy, maintaining a positive attitude (and exuding positive energy) can directly impact our whole being.

A Family’s Experiment
“A family that subscribed to our magazine conducted an experiment.  They put rice in two glass jars, and every day for a month they said ‘Thank you’ to one jar and ‘You fool’ to the other, and then they tracked how the rice changed over the period.  Even the children, when they got home from school, would speak these words to the jars of rice.

After a month, the rice that was told ‘Thank you’ started to ferment, with a mellow smell like that of malt, while the rice that was exposed to ‘You fool’ rotted and turned black” (Page 65).

Conclusions
Being positive means focusing on the good things that happen in our lives, rather than on the things that make us mad or upset, or don’t go the way we like.

Thinking positively has a major impact on how we feel, the things we do, and what we say to others.

Even though we all have not-so-good days, remaining positive helps us through.

When we focus on the negatives all the time, we may feel exhausted, unmotivated and “blah” – the opposite can be achieved by focusing on the positives.

Positive words, positive actions, and positive thoughts all result in positive energy (vibrations).

“The vibration of good words has a positive effect on our world, whereas the vibration from negative words has the power to destroy” (Page xxv).

Reflection
Take some time to think about a recent experience of your own that was negative or one in which you responded in a negative way.  How could you have changed your way of thinking to make it positive?

“The life you live and the world you live in are up to you” (Page 52).

What is EMOTO PEACE PROJECT?
The peace project goal is to educate the truth of water to children all around the world by distributing picture book of THE MESSAGE FROM WATER to children for free. We would like to share a clue to realize world peace that we learned through the research on water in an enjoyable way.

The surface of this planet earth is 70% water, and we human beings are also 70% water. We are mostly water. So, it is very essential that all children learn about water. Through THE MESSAGE FROM WATER, Children will learn that we reflect our self in water and in our surroundings. An attitude of Love and Gratitude can change us and so the entire world will be a sustainable and beautiful place for all beings.

Its intended age is from 3 - 12 years old. In another 20 years or so, we hope that they will be leading the earth in a favorable direction. What we adults can do now is to give them a chance to learn about the water and the true nature of us human being. We hope that the book, THE MESSAGE FROM WATER, will be translated into many languages and be of help to realize the goal.

We adults must minimize the damage done to the earth till then.

Why children?

Children are pure. If we give them a chance to learn about water and the true nature of us human beings, they will grow with the right knowledge to be a good person with the attitude of love and gratitude. We hope that children will lead the earth in a favorable direction in 10 to 20 years from now. We hope that the book, THE MESSAGE FROM WATER, will be translated into many languages and be of help to all children around the world.

Message from Masaru Emoto
The vision of EPP is to distribute the children’s version of ‘Messages from Water’ entitled THE MESSAGE FROM WATER to children all around the world, free of charge.  ‘Messages from Water’ contains water crystal photographs and the book’s message has received wide support from all over the world for many years.
For a long time the world has been in a difficult situation where people don't understand why it is the way it is. We are still far from global peace. In my opinion, one of the most important reasons why the world is in such a state is a lack of fundamental education. What is life? What is it to be human? For what do we exist? It is essential that our education systems provide these philosophical teachings.
After twenty- five years of researching water, I have come to believe that the answer to the above mentioned issue is in water. Everyone must agree that water is the source of everything but even modern science has not yet fully understood water. Consequently, we do not have much education on water at school. Children, therefore, do not have much knowledge of or interest in water.
When asking the question “What is life?”, we first need to understand water, because without water, it is impossible for there to be life or to maintain life. Children’s school books across the world however, are based on science. There is therefore very little explanation on the importance of water.
Photographs of water crystals seem to show the essence of the water. Unfortunately, many scientists have not yet acknowledged this technology. It will be some time until these photographs are used in school textbooks. Until photographs of water crystals appear in school text books, I would like to distribute my children’s books with sincere cooperation of people around the world.
The distribution of my books began in Japan in 2006. This movement is slowly spreading throughout the world. Thanks to my precious supporters in each country, there are over 28 countries where “The Message from Water” is being distributed.
My wish is to distribute it to at least ten percent of children in the world since I believe this book will convey to children the truth about water. Understanding the truth of water, loving it, and appreciating it, we can, together with children, make the world the peaceful place.
I would be extremely grateful if you could understand my vision and goal, and support our work to achieve this with us together.
Thank you very much for your attention.
With love and gratitude,

   Experiments with Words
As people learn that water reacts happily when we show or say good words to water and it reacts in a negative way as we show or say negative words, many children in many different countries have done various experiments.  Below are some examples:
*** Rice Experiment ***

In the photo, left to right, they are “Thank you”, “You fool”, and “Ignored”.

*** Flower Experiment ***
Rebecca got 3 pots of same size and same color. She wrote “I love you”, “I hate you”, and “Ignored”, and put them on the pots, and she said each words to the flowers every day. She took photos of the flowers every day for 30 days.
She did not give any water during these 30 days of experiment. You can see the results clearly even with flowers.

Some children have sent us their thoughts after doing the experiments. They all learned that positive words affect positively and negative words affect negatively to their surroundings. After the experiments, they will want to use good words. They will want to say “Thank you” to everyone and everything. They will want to change the world in a better way!
You can find more experiments and results done by different people around the world in YouTube.

The True Power of Water: Healing And Discovering Ourselves(HADO)

The True Power of Water:  Healing And Discovering Ourselves(HADO)

The True Power of Water
Healing and Discovering Ourselves
By Masaru Emoto
Translated by: Noriko Hosoyamada

Dear Reader,

I am honored that you have picked up The True Power of Water. In a world of no mistakes, it is not by coincidence that you and I are embarking on this journey. The words and pictures you are about to see will open a new world of possibilities for you -- just as my research has done for me.

In this book you will learn of the unique properties of water and its ability to improve your health and your life. You will see the effect each of us has on water -- not only the water we drink but also the water that makes up 70 percent of the human body and, most importantly, what happens to that water as we interact with each other.

2005 marks the beginning of the United Nations Decade of Water. It is our individual responsibility to learn all we can about water, the most precious resource on our planet, and to help shift the consciousness through our thoughts, through our words and prayers, and through our commitment to respect each other with love and gratitude. May our understanding of water help bring peace to all humankind.

Masaru Emoto was born in Yokohama in July 1943. He is agraduate of the Yokohama Municipal University's department of humanities and sciences with a focus on International Relations. In1986 he established the IHM Corporation in Tokyo. In October of 1992 he received certification from the Open International Universityas a Doctor of Alternative Medicine. Subsequently he wasintroduced to the concept of micro cluster water in the US andMagnetic Resonance Analysis technology. The quest thus began todiscover the mystery of water. He undertook extensive research of water around the planet not somuch as a scientific researcher but more from the perspective of anoriginal thinker. At length he realized that it was in the frozen crystalform that water showed us its true nature through. He has gainedworldwide acclaim through his groundbreaking research anddiscovery that water is deeply connected to our individual andcollective consciousnessHe is the author of the best-selling books Messages from Water,The Hidden Messages in Water, and The True Power of Water. He is a long-time advocate for peace in relation to water. He is currentlythe head of the I.H.M.General Research Institute and PresidentEmeritus of the International Water for Life Foundation, a Not for Profit Organization.
Power of Word
“Messages from Water” is a photo collection that was originallypublished in 1999. I took photographs of water crystals out of ice tipafter freezing water. The book has gained international recognitionas well as domestic reputation. It introduces many photographs of water crystals of natural water and tap water of all over the world. You can also see some things about which the conventional sciencecannot explain, such as the water crystal photographs of before andafter showing certain words to water to study how the crystalstransformed, and before and after letting water listen to certainmusic to study the crystal transformation. I also did experiment onhow people’s conscious influences water by taking water crystalphotographs. “Messages from Water” has been spreading globally. Ithink it’s because the messages that the photo collection carriessuch as “the importance of language,” “peoples thoughts transmit,”and “conscious changes substances” are appealing. In one of the experiments in the book, I introduced “the power of words and language” by using rice. Many children who learned itsresult did their own experiments in their own ways.Saying “Thank you” and “You fool” to Rice EverydayWhen delivering a presentation on the experiment that we did withthe effects of language on water, one of the audience members toldme that they were very impressed. This person also told me aboutan interesting experiment. This experiment involved placing cookedrice in two identical glass containers. Then he/she talked to the riceeveryday saying “Thank you” to one and “You fool” to the other.He/she did this for one month to see the results. Two elementary

Miraculous Messages from Water
How water reflects our consciousness

Water has a very important message for us. Water is telling us to take a much deeper look at our selves. When we do look at our selves through the mirror of water, the message becomes amazingly, crystal, clear. We know that human life is directly connected to the quality of our water, both within and all around us.

The photographs and information in this article reflect the work of Masaru Emoto, a creative and visionary Japanese researcher. Mr. Emoto has published an important book, "The Message from Water," from the findings of his worldwide research If you have any doubt that your thoughts affect everything in, and around you, the information and photographs that are presented here, taken from the book of his published results, will change your mind and profoundly alter your beliefs, .

From Mr. Emoto's work we are provided with factual evidence, that human vibrational energy, thoughts, words, ideas and music, affect the molecular structure of water, the very same water that comprises over seventy percent of a mature human body and covers the same amount of our planet. Water is the very source of all life on this planet, its quality and integrity are vitally important to all forms of life. The body is very much like a sponge and is composed of trillions of chambers called cells that hold liquid. The quality of our life is directly connected to the quality of our water.

Water is a very malleable substance. Its physical shape easily adapts to whatever environment is present. But its physical appearance is not the only thing that changes; its molecular shape also changes. The energy or vibrations of the environment will change the molecular shape of water. In this sense water not only has the ability to visually reflect the environment but it also molecularly reflects the environment.

Mr. Emoto has been visually documenting these molecular changes in water by means of his photographic techniques. He freezes droplets of water and then examines them under a dark field microscope that has photographic capabilities. His work clearly demonstrates the diversity of the molecular structure of water and the effect of the environment upon the structure of the water.

Snow has been falling on the earth for more than a few million years. Each snowflake, as we have been told, has a very unique shape and structure. By freezing water and taking a photograph of the structure, as Mr. Emoto has done, you get incredible information about the water.

Mr. Emoto has discovered many fascinating differences in the crystalline structures of water from many different sources and different conditions around the planet. Water from pristine mountain streams and springs show the beautifully formed geometric designs in their crystalline patterns. Polluted and toxic water from industrial and populated areas and stagnated water from water pipes and storage dams show definitively distorted and randomly formed crystalline structures.

With the recent popularity in music therapy, Mr. Emoto decided to see what effects music has on the structuring of water. He placed distilled water between two speakers for several hours and then photographed the crystals that formed after the water was frozen.

After seeing water react to different environmental conditions, pollution and music, Mr. Emoto and colleagues decided to see how thoughts and words affected the formation of untreated, distilled, water crystals, using words typed onto paper by a word processor and taped on glass bottles overnight. The same procedure was performed using the names of deceased persons. The waters were then frozen and photographed.

These photographs show the incredible reflections of water, as alive and highly responsive to every one of our thoughts and emotions. It is quite clear that water easily takes on the vibrations and energy of its environment, whether toxic and polluted or naturally pristine, either within our selves or surrounding us in others and the environment.

Masaru Emoto's extraordinary work is an awesome display, and powerful tool, that can change our perceptions of ourselves and the world we live in, forever. We now have profound evidence that we can positively heal and transform ourselves and our planet by the thoughts we choose to think and the ways in which we put those thoughts into action.

Emoto’s Water Experiment: The Power of Thoughts

Through the 1990’s, Dr. Masaru Emoto performed a series of experiments observing the physical effect of words, prayers, music and environment on the crystalline structure of water. Emoto hired photographers to take pictures of water after being exposed to the different variables and subsequently frozen so that they would form crystalline structures. The results were nothing short of remarkable..

After observing these miraculous results, Dr. Emoto went on to type out different words, both positive and negative in nature, and taped them to containers full of water. The results were as follows:
see above photos.

As you can tell, the water stamped with positive words is far more symmetrical and aesthetically pleasing than that stamped with dark, negative phrases. If you are reading this article on this particular website, you probably already knew that positive and negative thinking have a major impact on the surrounding environment. That concept is relatively easy to grasp, but this extremely tangible evidence of it is astounding. If the words and thoughts that come out of us have this effect on water crystals, it’s amazing to think of what kind of effect they have on the people and events that come into our lives.

Oh and by the way, the average human body is 60% water. Ponder that one a while…

Some may say that this could be the work of biased photographers or biased photo selection by Emoto himself.

However, Emoto dispelled this accusation in an interview during which he stated:

This is one of the more difficult areas to clarify. However, from continuing these experiments we have come to the conclusion that the water is reacting to the actual words. For example, for our trip to Europe we tried using the words “thank you” and “you fool” in German. The people on our team who took the actual photographs of the water crystals did not understand the German for “you fool”, and yet we were able to obtain exactly the same kind of results in the different crystal formations based on the words used.

Once a certain vibration is introduced to the water, how long does the water “remember” that crystalline structure?

This will be different depending on the original structure of the water itself. Tap water will lose its memory quickly. We refer to the crystalline structure of water as “clusters.” The smaller the clusters, the longer the water will retain its memory. If there is too much space between the clusters, other information could easily infiltrate this space, making it hard for the clusters to hold the integrity of the information. Other micro-organisms could also enter this space. A tight bonding structure is best for maintaining the integrity of information.

What kind of words would create smaller clusters and what kind of words would create larger clusters?

Slang words like “you fool” destroy clusters. You would not see any crystals in these cases. Negative phrases and words create large clusters or will not form clusters, and positive, beautiful words and phrases create small, tight clusters.

I Just Sued The School System

[Prince Ea:] Albert Einstein once said, everybody’s genius But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.

Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, today on trial we have modern day schooling. Glad you could come. Not only does he make fish climb trees but also makes them climb down and do a ten mile run.

Tell me school, are you proud of the things you’ve done?

Turning millions of people into robots, do you find that fun?

Do you realize how many kids relate to that fish? Swimming upstream in class never finding their gifts. Thinking they are stupid. Believing they are useless.

But the time has come, no more excuses.

I call school to the stand and accuse him of killing creativity! Individuality! And being intellectually abusive.

He’s an ancient institution that has outlived his usage.

So your honor, this concludes my opening statement and if I may present the evidence of my case, I will prove it.

[Judge:Proceed.

Stay with me…

Here’s a car from today, and here’s a car from 150 years ago. Big difference right?

Well get this…

Here’s a classroom of today and here’s a class we used 150 years ago.

Whoa…

Now ain’t that a shame? In literally more than a century, nothing has changed.

NOTHING HAS CHANGED

Yet you claim to prepare students for the future? But with evidence like that I must ask, Do you prepare students for the future or the past?

DO YOU PREPARE STUDENTS FOR THE FUTURE OR THE PAST

Back then times were different. We all have a past. I myself am no Gandhi. But today, we don’t need to make robot zombies.

The world has progressed, and now we need people who think creatively, innovatively, critically, independently with an ability to connect.

CREATIVELY INNOVATIVELY CRITICALLY INDEPENDENTLY

See every scientist will tell you that no two brains are the same. And every parent with two or more children will confirm that claim. So please explain why you treat students like cookie cutter frames or snapback hats. Giving them this one size fits all crap.

Watch your language.

Sorry, your honor.

TRAGIC

So many people would get sick yet. When it comes to school, this is exactly what happens. This educational malpractice.

Let’s be honest, teachers should earn just as much as doctors. Because a doctor can do heart surgery, and save the life of a kid. But a great teacher can reach the heart of that kid and allow him to truly live.

See teachers are heroes that often get blamed. But they’re not the problem. They work in a system without many options or rights.

Curriculums are created by policy makers. Most of which have never taught a day in their life. Just obsessed with standardized tests. They think bubbling in a multiple choice question will determine success. That outlandish.

In fact these tests are too crude to be used and should be abandoned. But don’t take my word for it, take Frederick.J.Kelly. The man who invented standardized testing, who said and I quote.

But don’t my word for it, take Frederick J. Kelly, the man who invented standardized testing, who said, and I quote: “These tests are too crude to be used and should be abandoned.”

Ladies and Gentlemen of the jury, if we continue down this road the results will be lethal.

I don’t have much faith in school but I do have faith in people. And if we can customize healthcare, cars, and Facebook pages, then it is our duty to do the same for education. To upgrade it. Change it.

UPGRADE
CHANGE
SCHOOL SPIRIT

Do away with school spirit cause that’s useless. Unless we’re working to bring the spirit out of each and every student, that should be our task.

COMMON CORE

No more common core, instead. Let’s reach the core of every heart in every class. Sure math is important, but no more than art and dance.

ART
OR
DANCE

Let’s give every gift an equal chance. I know this sounds like a dream. But countries like Finland are doing impressive things.

SCHOOL DAYS

The have shorter school days. Teachers make a decent wage.

$

Homework is non-existent and they focus on collaboration instead of competition.

Collaboration

INSTEAD OF COMPETITION

But here’s the kicker boys and girls.

Their educational system outperforms every other country in the world.

SINGAPORE

Other places like Singapore are succeeding rapidly.

MONTESSORI

Schools like Montessori, Programs like Khan Academy.

KHAN ACADEMY

There is no single solution, but let’s get moving. Because while students may be 20% of our population.

20%

They are 100% of our future.

100%

So let’s attend to their dreams and there’s no telling that we can achieve.

This is a world in which I believe. A world where fish are no longer forced to climb trees.

TO CLIMB TREES

I REST MY CASE

[APPLAUSE]

Hey, guys, my name is Prince Ea, and I want to say thank you so much for watching my video. But now I want to know what you think.

How can we together create a more efficient, effective just better future of learning?

UPDATE THE CLASSROOM

Albert Einstein was born at Ulm, in Württemberg, Germany, on March 14, 1879. Six weeks later the family moved to Munich, where he later on began his schooling at the Luitpold Gymnasium. Later, they moved to Italy and Albert continued his education at Aarau, Switzerland and in 1896 he entered the Swiss Federal Polytechnic School in Zurich to be trained as a teacher in physics and mathematics. In 1901, the year he gained his diploma, he acquired Swiss citizenship and, as he was unable to find a teaching post, he accepted a position as technical assistant in the Swiss Patent Office. In 1905 he obtained his doctor's degree.

During his stay at the Patent Office, and in his spare time, he produced much of his remarkable work and in 1908 he was appointed Privatdozent in Berne. In 1909 he became Professor Extraordinary at Zurich, in 1911 Professor of Theoretical Physics at Prague, returning to Zurich in the following year to fill a similar post. In 1914 he was appointed Director of the Kaiser Wilhelm Physical Institute and Professor in the University of Berlin. He became a German citizen in 1914 and remained in Berlin until 1933 when he renounced his citizenship for political reasons and emigrated to America to take the position of Professor of Theoretical Physics at Princeton*. He became a United States citizen in 1940 and retired from his post in 1945.

After World War II, Einstein was a leading figure in the World Government Movement, he was offered the Presidency of the State of Israel, which he declined, and he collaborated with Dr. Chaim Weizmann in establishing the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

Einstein always appeared to have a clear view of the problems of physics and the determination to solve them. He had a strategy of his own and was able to visualize the main stages on the way to his goal. He regarded his major achievements as mere stepping-stones for the next advance.

At the start of his scientific work, Einstein realized the inadequacies of Newtonian mechanics and his special theory of relativity stemmed from an attempt to reconcile the laws of mechanics with the laws of the electromagnetic field. He dealt with classical problems of statistical mechanics and problems in which they were merged with quantum theory: this led to an explanation of the Brownian movement of molecules. He investigated the thermal properties of light with a low radiation density and his observations laid the foundation of the photon theory of light.

In his early days in Berlin, Einstein postulated that the correct interpretation of the special theory of relativity must also furnish a theory of gravitation and in 1916 he published his paper on the general theory of relativity. During this time he also contributed to the problems of the theory of radiation and statistical mechanics.

In the 1920's, Einstein embarked on the construction of unified field theories, although he continued to work on the probabilistic interpretation of quantum theory, and he persevered with this work in America. He contributed to statistical mechanics by his development of the quantum theory of a monatomic gas and he has also accomplished valuable work in connection with atomic transition probabilities and relativistic cosmology.

After his retirement he continued to work towards the unification of the basic concepts of physics, taking the opposite approach, geometrisation, to the majority of physicists.

Einstein's researches are, of course, well chronicled and his more important works include Special Theory of Relativity (1905), Relativity (English translations, 1920 and 1950), General Theory of Relativity (1916), Investigations on Theory of Brownian Movement (1926), and The Evolution of Physics (1938). Among his non-scientific works, About Zionism (1930), Why War? (1933), My Philosophy (1934), and Out of My Later Years (1950) are perhaps the most important.

Albert Einstein received honorary doctorate degrees in science, medicine and philosophy from many European and American universities. During the 1920's he lectured in Europe, America and the Far East, and he was awarded Fellowships or Memberships of all the leading scientific academies throughout the world. He gained numerous awards in recognition of his work, including the Copley Medal of the Royal Society of London in 1925, and the Franklin Medal of the Franklin Institute in 1935.

Einstein's gifts inevitably resulted in his dwelling much in intellectual solitude and, for relaxation, music played an important part in his life. He married Mileva Maric in 1903 and they had a daughter and two sons; their marriage was dissolved in 1919 and in the same year he married his cousin, Elsa Löwenthal, who died in 1936. He died on April 18, 1955 at Princeton, New Jersey.

The History of Multiple-Choice Tests
I've been enjoying my free copy of Seth Godin's recent manifesto, Stop Stealing Dreams.

He shares the interesting origin of multiple-choice tests in Section 10, Frederick J. Kelly and your nightmares:

In 1914, a professor in Kansas invented the multiple-choice test. Yes, it’s less than a hundred years old.

There was an emergency on. World War I was ramping up, hundreds of thousands of new immigrants needed to be processed and educated, and factories were hungry for workers. The government had just made two years of high school mandatory, and we needed a temporary, high-efficiency way to sort students and quickly assign them to appropriate slots.

In the words of Professor Kelly, “This is a test of lower order thinking for the lower orders.”

A few years later, as President of the University of Idaho, Kelly disowned the idea, pointing out that it was an appropriate method to test only a tiny portion of what is actually taught and should be abandoned. The industrialists and the mass educators revolted and he was fired.

The SAT, the single most important filtering device used to measure the effect of school on each individual, is based (almost without change) on Kelly’s lower-order thinking test. Still.

The reason is simple. Not because it works. No, we do it because it’s the easy and efficient way to keep the mass production of students moving forward.

Memorizing information is pointless when you have a computer in your pocket with all the world's information just a touch away. Is the only thing we can teach these days is how to get a high test SAT score?

I find it odd that teachers spend more time teaching youth to memorize trivial information (like "When was the war of 1812?") than they do teaching them to competently search and find it on the Internet. Oh, wait...is that because most teachers are technically illiterate? It's not their fault, I mean the administrators over at the school district won't "let" them stray from the curriculum.

I often hear teachers complain about students attitudes and how flaky they are. Here's an idea, what if we taught youth to make commitments (and keep them), to overcome fear, to deal transparently, to initiate, and to plan a course?

Can adults teach youth (or other adults) to desire lifelong learning, to express themselves, and to innovate? I believe it is possible. I believe it is more likely on an outdoor retreat, camp, or field trip than in a classroom via a boring power point presentation.

REAL LEARNING is not done to you. Learning is something you choose to do.

The world has changed and unfortunately the school system is exactly that, a industrialized "system," working on a massive scale, that has significant byproducts, including the destruction of many of the attitudes and emotions we’d like to build our culture around. In the early industrial economy of the 19th and 20th centuries the two biggest challenges were finding enough compliant workers and finding enough eager customers. School was invented to solve these problems, and it worked.

The 21st century economy needs creative thinkers and problem solvers, not mindless cogs that are obedient, on-time, and work to make widgets cheaper and faster than the day before.
Stop Stealing Dreams.
What is school for?

The economy has changed, probably forever.
School hasn't.
School was invented to create a constant stream of compliant factory workers to the growing businesses of the 1900s. It continues to do an excellent job at achieving this goal, but it's not a goal we need to achieve any longer.

In this 30,000 word manifesto, I imagine a different set of goals and start (I hope) a discussion about how we can reach them. One thing is certain: if we keep doing what we've been doing, we're going to keep getting what we've been getting.

Our kids are too important to sacrifice to the status quo.
A Note To Young Designer

To you, anonymous hero knighted by the gods and entrusted by them to design the environment of mankind for the years to come, i dedicate this book. In your years of school, you will desperately try to find your "way". And your search will be desperate until some day you discover that a school can only teach you how to learn and how to work by opening your mind not to one way of knowledge, but to the many ways opened by men of vision into the unknown territories of art - since it is true that there is an infinity of different ways to reach art, and that all are good, if they are authentic.
After years of intolerance, you will find yourself some day left high and dry on a shore deserted of your dearest idol, with a bitter taste in your mouth. Because it is true that unless an artist believe in everything, he believe in nothing. Be ready to die for what you believe in today, but submit your idols to trial by fire, relentlessly, and keep those which retain, through the ordeal, the original strength of their mettle.

You will also soon discover the vanity of saying of a work of art that it is greater than another work of art. You will realize that the humblest work may possesses eternal greatness if it possesses sincerity.

When at length come your years of fulfillment you will find yourself alone, the only judge of your decision, in the awesome position of the doctor at the deathbed of his dearest patient. No one then will tell you what can be done to bring life flowing again into what death is ready to snatch away. No one will tell you if you are right, or wrong, even the experience and knowledge of your past years may be of no avail. Your only sure guide will always be your intuition.

Do not be afraid: either of your ideas, no matter how wild - the ideas to others, no matter how disturbing. Fear is the motive of all intolerance, while no truly tolerant man can ever be afraid, and the artist must be uncompromisingly tolerant.

As a corollary to this, live dangerously. The mountain climber is only rewarded by the summit after having risked his life many times during the climb. Beware then of contracting too many insurances. Close your eyes to ads and magazines; don't ever forget that your work may make the magazine, but the magazine will never make your work and may well destroy the faith you have in yourself.

Avoid brainwashing of any kind, commercial social, political, religious. Don't let yourself be tagged by a leash of honor in 'ism' that will make you one of the flock, but will blindfold you from seeing the beautiful lamb of the flock that happens to live on the next ranch. You, as an artist, must believe in everything, mostly in the impossible. Don't ever forget that by your intuitive foresight you will find solutions to problems that seem impossible today, but which will become commonplace in the next generation.

Don't work for success, whether success to you means a degree, a position, money, or honors. You cannot reverse the process of nature: since no fruit in spring can produce flowers in the fall, you cannot visualize the harvest before the seed matures into a healthy, full grown plant. A hot house may grow faster products, but none that can compete with the authentic product of the soil. This attitude will force you to give "no" for an answer more often than "yes", if you are concerned only with the integrity of your production. Then your "YES" will be uncompromisingly sincere. The worst lie is the lie you give to yourself as an excuse for success.

Burn your idols once in a while, and start all over again.

Art is not a process of feeling little wings grow in your backs and grow and grow until they become angel wings and carry you smiling to a heaven fragrant with sweet violin sounds and harps: when your wings start to lift you above ground, some good devil will know enough to clip them short and you will fall and get hurt. Only through succession of flight and falls will you experience art and grow in stature as an artist.

Often you will find your beliefs today in contradiction with yesterday's loves. Although your personality will never change, your vision of the world will. In your wonder trip discovery of life, you will not rest in worship at the feet of only one idol, but will give to every new idol as it passes by a silent prayer of recognitions as thankful tribute to the enrichment it has brought to your mind.

Flout the rules as often as you can in a masterly way. Recipes are for poor cooks. Great chefs make them. The canvas of rules and codes that you have had to learn must be transgressed with vision for any art to be born.

Finally, during all your life as an artist, learn through painstaking experimentation, exercise and practice, how to acquire a masterly knowledge of your craft.

As for your equipment as a designer, it is not costly: it will consist of your hands, your eyes, and your mind. There will be your most essential tools; they are all the arms you need as a young warrior in the battle of design. All shortcuts, mechanical and otherwise, are signs of defeat and ineptitude. Art is the highest form of athletics, and the greatest artist- a Beethoven, a Paganini, a Heifetz, or a Picasso - are among the most hard working 'manual laborers".

Only through the constant practice of your grammar, your scales and arpeggios, vocalizes and sketches, will you become articulate in your art.

All the rest is nonsense.
