Water Cure Ankylosing Spondylitis

This letter is reproduced here to show that, even after 30 years, the excruciating pain of ankylosing spondylitis (arthritis of the spinal column) can be cured with water and some salt.

  I'm responding to your request for information on how your book 
'Your Body's Many Cries for Water helped me.

  Enclosed find a book report I wrote for my newsletter, STRAWS IN THE WIND.  The report is self-explanatory, but I want to update you in as much that I continue to be pain-free with my ankylosis spondylitis one year after starting the water/salt regime. My blood pressure is normal.

  I thank God every day for allowing me to finally be pain-free, thanks to Dr. batmanghelidj's great book.  The Mayo Clinic told me back in 1965 that there "was no cure for my form of arthritis." I would appreciate it if you would forward a copy of this letter (and book report) to the, in the hope that they will finally wake up to the fact that there is a cure for ankylosis spondylitis.

  The paradigm shift is on, and if the Mayo Clinic doesn't want to get caught up in the dust cloud, they'd better get with the program.

Naturally, there are quite a number of full page ads for the same recommended drugs in each magazine. Newsweek magazine’s science editor has for some time been aware of my discovery that asthma denotes a "state of dehydration," yet there is no mention of my natural and free asthma cure in the article. I can only assume that advertising dollars are more important to the magazine than the simple cure that is now available for asthmatics!

But an understanding of mechanisms of these disease easily explains the “water cure.” Adequate hydration ensures normal blood flow, relieving migraines, and keeps at bay the triggers, such as histamine that prompt an asthma attack.

Improvement in the aches and pains of arthritis also make sense, given that 85 percent of cartilage and virtually all of the synovial fluid lubricating the joints are water. Drinking water also restores the protective mucous membranes of the GI tract, soothing ulcers and other stomach problems. Furthermore, water is nature’s best diuretic If you are experiencing chronic dehydration from not drinking enough water, or from drinking water-depleting drinks such as coffee, beer or beverages containing sugar, your body tries to prevent respiratory water loss by producing histamines which close off the capillaries in your lungs. Through the constriction of these capillaries, water loss is reduced, but of course breathing is made far more difficult. It’s important to understand that the body is doing this on purpose. The body is producing histamines as a strategy, not as a disease or something gone awry. The body wants to constrict the capillaries in your lungs because it is trying to save your brain. There’s another fascinating point on chronic dehydration and weight loss that’s worth mentioning here, too: many people who are attempting to lose weight end up in a state of chronic dehydration because they don’t want to drink water for fear that it will add “water weight” to their bodies. They actually impair their body’s ability to metabolize fat because they’re afraid to drink enough water on a regular basis. In reality, being fully hydrated is a prerequisite to weight loss. If you want to lose weight, you have to give your body enough water so that it’s no longer in a state of emergency. When the body is in a state of chronic dehydration, or a state of emergency, it will not let go of fat supplies easily. It wants to hold on to everything it can eat or drink. The only way to convince your body to let go of body fat, and start metabolizing body fat, is to drink a lot of water – enough water so that your body feels safe in letting go of unneeded calories. All, in various ways, linked to a chronic state of dehydration?

Brain function: The brain comprises 2% of the body’s total weight, yet receives 15-20% of the blood supply, mostly comprised of water. Dehydration will affect cognitive ability drastically, and, through histamine’s action, can create depressive states (many anti-depressant medications are anti-histamines).

Bone function: Bones require plentiful supplies of water. 75% of the weight of the upper body, for instance, is supported by the water core contained within the fifth lumbar disc, the remaining 25% by muscle fibers around the spine.

Nerve function: Microstreams exist along the length of nerves which transport nutrients and conduct energy along microtubules to the synapses to transmit messages. Dehydration disrupts proper nerve function, resulting in the sensation of pain.

Hydrolysis: Water, far from being an inert solvent, is intricately involved in the body’s water-dependent chemical reactions. Lack of water means incomplete or faulty metabolic processes, with obvious implications for continued health and well-being. Proteins and enzymes, for instance, do not function as well in acidic solutions of higher viscosity (stickiness) where the body is dehydrated.

Cellular energy: As water is drawn through the cell membrane, its osmotic flow generates a voltage gradient which can be used in the manufacture of ATP and GTP energy. Dehydration will obviously affect the proper functioning of cells and even kill them.

Histamine: This neurotransmitter plays a major role in activating systems which encourage water intake when dehydration is detected. Functions in the body which consume large quantities of water are cut back, namely the bronchial tubes constricted to cut down on water use in the lungs; increased peristalsis in the bowels to wring more water out of faecal material, and so on. Other signs of histamine’s activity, namely allergies, asthma, depression and chronic pains, are interpreted by the physician as ‘disease’ and treated with anti-histamines, pain-killers (analgesics), etc. Thus the signals of thirst are turned off and the dehydration state continues unabated.

Dyspepsia (heartburn/reflux): Over time, this can lead to ulceration and even cancer. Dr Batmanghelidj recommends that these conditions – also gastritis andduodenitis – be treated with water alone as they are one of the body’s major thirst signals. Arrested in his native Iran by the Revolutionary Council during the troubles of the late 1970’s, Dr B was confined to Evin prison, Tehran, during which time he successfully treated with water alone over three thousand people complaining of dyspeptic pain and associated symptoms.

Digestion: Requires plentiful supplies of water. The stomach relies on mucus lining the walls to shield it from the effects of the stomach’s hydrochloric acid. A bicarbonate solution is produced from the cells in the lining which neutralises any acid attempting to break through the mucus. Water is needed to maintain this effective defence system. Too little water, and the mucus barrier is ineffectual, the acid will penetrate and will lead to pain. Ideally, water should be consumed half an hour before a meal, in time to anticipate the production of digestive acid from glands in the stomach wall.

Ulcers: Often located at the valve between the stomach and duodenum. Said to be caused by curved bacteria known as helicobacters( Heliobactor pylori). Yet many people have helicobacters in their small intestine and stomach, yet not all of them suffer from ulcers. Histamine-producing nerves are located at this site, which monitor the through-put of acidic food chyme from the stomach into the intestine. Histamine has growth-hormone effects on these micro-organisms, resulting in small intestine bacterial overgrowths . Once again, an adequate regime of water intake will allow all the functions relating to digestion to normalize. Prolonged water intake should therefore be considered before more drastic drug treatments are entered into.

Interview with Dr.B: 
Heartburn can be cured with water. I use the word “cured” because it is a sign of dehydration. When you cure dehydration, the disease will go.

Not only asthma, allergies and lupus, but also heartburn which is a major problem in the United States.

Yes, yes. Actually, water will cure heartburn much faster than any medication.

So if you’re having heartburn after a spicy dinner, just drink a bunch of water?

The best thing is to drink water before food. Drink water half an hour before food if you’re a heartburn sufferer. That is the best time because that water will go into the stomach and then into the intestines and get absorbed. Then that water is re-secreted entirely in the stomach, simultaneously priming the mucus membrane to receive food. And, water is in the stomach to be used for liquefaction of food – to break it, to prepare the food into smaller particles so they can be absorbed. That is what water does. If you don’t drink water beforehand, the body doesn’t have enough water that it can liberate for other activity. Any water that is in your body is already engaged in an activity. You need fresh water for fresh activity. If you’re introducing solid food, this is a fresh activity. You need fresh water to dissolve it and break it down.

Basically, the major pains of the body, such as, heartburn, rheumatoid joint pain, back pain, colitis pain, migraine headaches, fibromyalgic pain, even angina pain are signs of dehydration in the human body. Where you have pain, it’s showing that that area is dehydrated. The mechanism is very simple. Toxic chemical waste builds up when you don’t drink enough water. If there is not enough water to wash away the chemical toxic waste from an area that is still active metabolizing, then toxic waste builds up. Histamine is a main neurotransmitter in charge of water regulation in the body. Histamine is the element that everyone takes antihistamine for, but histamine is a good guy. It is regulating the available water in the body according to very strict rules.

You don’t want to dry it up with antihistamine.

No.

It’s harming your body.

Yes. What you want to do is provide the water that histamine is seeking. Once you give the body water, it acts as an antihistamine itself. In other words, histamine is no longer concerned with dehydration.

And then salt is really important too. In your book you mention that the salt works on your brain cells and prevents Alzheimer’s Disease.

Yes. The brain is 85 percent water and it lives in a salty lake. It is encased in a salty lake. Cerebral spinal fluid is a very salty environment and in order to make it salty, salt is pumped into this environment constantly. Salt is responsible for taking acid out of the brain cells. There are nine trillion brain and nerve cells that constantly chatter to one another. They use up energy and there is toxic waste. There is acidity involved in the toxic waste. Salt goes into the cell and pushes the acid out. And then this acid is taken out of the system by a mechanism of pumping systems and taken to the kidneys and flushed out. If we are short of salt and the toxic waste builds up in the cell environment of the brain, then hydrogen iron acidity, which lowers the pH making it more acidic, will eat away into the brain cell mechanism.

We’re told not to have salt because of the high blood pressure.

This is where medical science has gone wrong because the human body retains salt in order to keep a body of water outside of the cells of the body. From this body of water, which is called edema fluid, water is filtered and injected into the vital cells. There is a reverse osmosis program that the body operates. The drier the body becomes the higher the injection pressure has to be for the operation of the reverse osmosis. This injection pressure is measurable and we call it hypertension. This injection pressure force is needed in order to force water into the vital cells. You take water and some salt and expand the volume of water outside of the cells and allow water to get into the cells and this need for reverse osmosis that operates across the board in the body is taken away and so the blood pressure drops. So water and salt are better medications for lowering blood pressure.

That is so interesting. Now, does this have any affect on diabetes?

Diabetes is another sign of dehydration. The brain needs water, 85 percent water and it needs salt. If your body is short of water and is low in salt, the body has to resort to make the blood a little more sweet or sugar it for asthmatic purposes and also to shut down secretion of insulin. Once insulin is secreted, it opens up the gates into all the cells and sugar will rush in, other elements will rush in and water will rush in. Insulin is the key to the gates for intake of elements into the cells of the body.

In dehydration, this key has to be inhibited because otherwise it will embarrass the circulation. But the brain will receive both the water and the sugar that the other cells are not receiving. In dehydration, the hydroelectric energy that water will generate in the brain is diminished so it needs more sugar to convert into energy elements.

So there is a logic behind old age diabetes. Insulin dependent diabetes is one of the autoimmune diseases which again is produced by dehydration.

So tumors cannot exist if you are well hydrated inside the body. If it’s that simple to reverse all these negative processes that are going on in the body that are harmful to us, then would this have an effect on our aging? Can we reverse the aging process?

Aging is a complication of dehydration because when you age, you gradually lose water from the surface of your skin. The circulation to the surface will diminish and gradually as the skin loses water, there isn’t anything coming back in its place. So you get the creases and t

This is so amazing. It makes me feel like all of us are just walking around, just drying up. Get more water!

Absolutely, we are all drying up. You see a lot of these people with spider veins and varicose veins. They are salt-deficient.

How much salt do you put in water?

You need basically 1/4 teaspoon of sea salt per quart of water. Sea salt contains the other sea minerals, 84 different minerals in trace quantities which are vital. A quarter teaspoon is 1-1/2 grams. One teaspoon is six grams. The body needs basically three to four grams of salt a day. That is when you are taking 10 glasses of water. If you are not taking the 10 glasses of water, a build up of salt intake will gradually make you swell. You need to constantly measure yourself. If you suddenly have gone up two or three pounds in two days, you have retained too much salt. Just drink water, don’t take salt for one day and then continue the next day.

Any pain you have in your body, assume initially it is due to dehydration. Pain in the body is a sign of dehydration in 99 cases out of 100. You need to drink water before your food, to have it available for the act of chewing, swallowing, breaking down food, absorbing and metabolizing the particles. You need water if you are exercising, before the exercise, because the exercise will expand your vascular bed and you will sweat more and you become very quickly dehydrated. So it is best to take water beforehand. You need water before you sleep because for eight hours you are going to be drying up gradually. In the hot bed, you perspire. Your vascular system expands. You breathe out a lot of water. You manufacture urine even though you don’t evacuate it until the morning. So you are dehydrated by first thing in the morning. The first thing in the morning, drink two glasses of water. It’s the best laxative there is. Within a half hour, two to three glasses of water will produce a better result if you are fully hydrated.

Those of you who are familiar with the work of the late Dr B. may own his book called “The Water Cure,” or “Water for health, for Healing, for Life: You’re Not Sick, You’re Thirsty.” He’s also the author of “Your Body’s Many Cries for Water.” Essentially, Dr. B is the foremost authority on the relationship between the consumption of water and states of health or disease in the human body..”

Body Electronics states : an indication you are drinking proper amount of water is when your urine does NOT discolor the water in the toilet bowl. Urine color should be EXTREMLY pale yellow ,almost clear. Please note: liquids like coffee, alcohol, various pops( like Coca Cola ,etc.), juices and teas are not water. These liquids require additional amounts of water ( double the amount of the ingested liquids) to be resolved and eliminated from your body. Water, the solvent of the body ( and best solvent on the planet),regulates ALL functions, including the activity of the solutes it dissolves and circulates.( minerals ,vitamins ,hormones, etc.)Water, with unrefined sea salt, prevents dry and itchy skin, excessive flatulence, CONSTIPATION ( with nowadays refined foods it is wise to supplement with psyllium fiber), dry nostrils and dry eyes,urinary incontinence and excessive flatulence. Hydrated skin will also look younger.

The intestines secrete a substance called motilin, which stimulates peristalsis; the waves of muscular activity that move food through digestive tract. Motilin is secreted in direct proportion to the amount of water one drinks. Lack of water will definitely lead to constipation. Such water intake produces copious amount of saliva which helps to alkalize various parts of your body ( with exception of your stomach , the rest of your body needs to be predominantly alkaline).If the acidic stomach contents without dilution and proper amount of alkaline saliva enter, the pancreas must secrete a watery bicarbonate solution into the duodendum or upper portion of the small intestine to rise the pH. In a state of dehydration this becomes very difficult and a body is faced with a dilemma; it can allow acidic stomach contents into the duodendum and risk damage and ulcers, or it can reverse peristalsis to send some of the food back towards the esophagus thus causing heartburn, acid reflux, nausea, hiatus hernia, what can possibly causeosophageal cancer.” Proper hydration will cure urinary incontinence, excessive flatulence,dry and itchy skin, dry nostrils, dry eyes (hydrated skin will also lookyounger).

Ancients knew that our body is made of four elements; water, earth(minerals),air and fire( energy).Water is a magical substance , the only one available in a solid, liquid and gaseous state simultaneously. Our body is about 75 % water, 15 % solids and 10 % air.( our brains are 90 % water). A water molecule at room temperature is not simply a H2O but 300-400 H2O joined together to form a GRAND MOLECULE ,which form net like structure. Healthy water has a high content of dissolved oxygen and responds to various pollutants by encapsulating them. Chlorine ,fluoride and many other pollutants have a devastating effect on water. Fluorides are general protoplasmic poisons due to their capacity to modify the metabolism of cells by changing the permeability of the cell membrane and by inhibiting certain enzyme systems. Inorganic ( non –cheleated) minerals commonly found in drinking water cannot be utilized by the body and are a health risk. Use cheleated or colloidal( trace) minerals.Tap water contains hundreds of harmful chemicals like dioxin,( remember Agent Orange used in defoliation of Vietnam forests, a very powerful carcinogen),aldicarb, polychlorinated biphenols, trichloroethylene, alachlor, lead, arsenic, aluminum( added to some water supplies to make it sparkle),mercury, asbestos, chloroform, methylene chloride, bromoform and countless others. New Scientist magazine reported that polluted water can cause brain damage ( your brain is 90-95 % water) that turns ordinary people into violent criminals. Toxic metals found in our drinking water ( never keep water, or anything else, in a plastic container) are linked to crime rates. For example; lead inhibits the action of glial cells and manganese interferes with levels of serotonin and dopamine , chemical messengers in the brain, linked to mood and behavior. Fluoride is not biodegradable, it causes genetic damage, and damages collagen production in bones. Fluoride is an immune system inhibitor and even in very small amounts slows down white blood cells.
